Chicken Wire

Hi - my stupid dog, who is the size of a horse, manages to turn himself into a pancake and get under our fence. I need to run ?chicken wire along the bottom of the fence but we have >100mtrs of fence. Does anyone know where to get chicken wire or the like cheaply?

Thanks

Mike

  • might work out cheaper to get one of those 'dog containment systems' (look em up on ebay). There seems to be a number of different systems…. some use sound, some smell, most electricity.
Might actually be more effective than wire, as the dog can't 'dig under', like it could with chicken wire….

Thanks Andy but my wife won't let me use it!!!!!!! I have already bought it from ebay at a great price, but she is anti electronic devices as it may "hurt" the dog!!!!!

  • The electronic containment ones actually work really well, the ones that are shock collars are quite good, the dog only ends up getting shocked once (a few times max) as the collar beeps as the dog gets close to the containment wire, then when the dog attempts to cross the wire, it gets a small shock. They quickly learn that a beep is bad news and dont go anywhere near the wire.

For example, if we're playing with a ball, and I accidentally throw the ball too close to the fence, the dog wont go anywhere near it.

Works really well, better to have a dog that gets one or two (small) shocks in its lifetime, that a dog that ends up smeared over the road. The shock collar is nothing like the boot an electric fence gives off.

It wasn't too expensive either, like, $150 odd off of ebay.

    • I agree and I will show my wife this but I don't like my chances.

      • Maybe promise to wear one yourself as proof and not stray? :)

She wouldn't care but she may like the fact that it would shock me every time I went near her!!!!
