A couple of years ago, I bought a new 50 inch plasma at a post-Christmas sale. The next day, a mate in the USA bought one too — the same brand and model, but his is, obviously, set up for US channels. He paid $5 less than half what I paid. Made in the same factory even, much closer to here than there!

How much for shipping this beast to australia? What taxes would you have to pay? Just GST? How would you deal with the voltage differences? I assume this would require at least a 500w stepdown transformer?

I'm sure you could import it and pay the GST and $50 customs clearance fee and it would still be cheaper than 11 grand.
You do realise you need membership to buy as well as the TV being 120v vs our 240v.
