Home theatre recommendations

Hey Guys,

Just sold my Philips HTIB system and was keen on replacing it with the Pioneer HTP522 system from DSE for $269 but the more I think about it the more I'd rather just the receiver plus 2.1 speakers for the meantime as I'm struggling to find a useful spot to put the 2 rear speakers of this package.

What do you all think? Should I look into buying amp and speakers seperately or buy it in the combo from DSE?

I'm not an audiophile by any means, but just would like the option to upgrade to 5.1 when the time comes so would like a amp for that.

Also any suggestions of 2.1 speaker packages that would offer good value for money.

  • how much would u be prepared to spend ?
    If $300ish then that's a good start…

if you just want to watch tv/movies then that amp looks to be quite decent for what it is.

you can always change the speakers later on if you want a better 5.1 setup.
amazon always have deals on decent speaker sets too. ie. Jamo speaker set for $340 delivered? (no sub, no amp).

Have you listened to soundbars ? They might be an option for space saving and sound fairly good but obviously doesn't have the features of an amp interms of inputs.

  • I'd recommend getting a Yamaha HTR-6065 on sale from JB Hi-Fi for $418. It's a 7.1 networkable AVR with AirPlay and 4K bypass, so it would meet future needs for many years and would allow you to select speakers that suite your taste and buildup to 5.1 or 7.1in the future.
