Which ASUS Router Should Be My Main AiMesh Node? AX82U (German Model) or AX54HP (Australian Model)

Hi All,

I bought a high-end asus router (AX82U), albeit from germany, for really cheap ($~180) on amazon, but only realised after I bought it that the european models have lower signal coverage. I also have a low to mid end asus router (AX54HP) that I bought in Australia.

I'm currently using the AX82U as the main router and the AX54HP as a mesh node.

I'm receiving OK coverage in my work from home/gaming room, but was just wondering if it could be better if I swapped them so the AX54HP is the main router because it's an australian made one? Would I also get better coverage if I swapped the AX82U out completely for another AX54HP?

Any help would be greatly appreciated :)

Have you considered just trying this?

'Cause this thread is not much use without a floorplan.

  • I don't think we can really answer this. There are quite a few things that you'd need to think about.

    • Do you have issues now?
    • Do you need more range near one of the nodes?
    • Would another node solve the range issues?

And of course, can you run cable for wired backhaul?

  • I'd keep the AX82U as the main router because it has a faster processor.

You can move the routers location if you're getting blackspots.
