Costco Price list

One of the reasons people think Costco is so great is that they don't publish their prices. When you are inside it is easy to forget how much things cost in other places. ( Market separation) key items like milk and eggs are quite cheap but i think this is because people remember how much these things cost.
i don't know if it was just me or if it deliberate but my data signal was very poor in there and i wasn't able to look up prices of things elsewhere.

Here is what i am proposing
I am planning to go to Costco in auburn this wednesday for a few things.

What i would like to do is start a thread where the prices of stable items ( non-fluctuating prices) are listed so people can compare and work out if it is worthwhile making the trip. Auburn is not close to me at all but i want to buy some bulk toilet paper and bring my friend along as she is not a member and wants to buy some things.

For example
When coke cans ( and other varieties) are on special at coles and Woolworths the price per litre regularly comes down to $1.97/L. i know this because i shop for my business.

So when i go on wednesday, are there any items people would like to know the price of? i'll take a photo with my phone and upload them / write the prices

Does this idea appeal to anyone else.

P.s i didn't know which category this was best suited for so i put it in general.

  • Well, I let my Costco membership lapse because Aldi opened a store where I live. The only things I miss are pistachio in bulk, quinoa, jerky and toothpaste.

  • It's a good idea, and the lack of transparency, and membership fee, are what holds me back from visiting.

  • idea is good.

  • Yeah good Idea. I'm in NQLD so no where near a Cosco, but would love to see what all the hype is about :D

  • Costco is great. If you buy in fortnightly or monthly. Weekly you will easily see the price jump to $300+ if you're not too careful!

  • Sounds like a good idea, but I don't really think the prices are stable.

My parents have a Costco membership for business and my mum has said that even just over the past few months, she has noticed some (non-perishable) grocery item prices have risen.

Being members, my partner and I keep a close eye on Costco prices….so close that we started a website dedicated to it. We are in no way connected to Costco, just a couple of members that shop there regularly and often got questions from friends about what Costco is all about.

One of your points was about Coke. We tend to buy cans in our house for portion control. Costco originaly was doing 24 x 330ml can slabs which was annoying from doing price comparisons in my head because I like to look at the per 375ml can price as a comparison.

They recently switched to 20 x 375ml cans and originally they were selling at 75cents per can ($2.00 per litre). Now I knew that Coles and Woolworths often get under this price and clearly Costco were no competitive. They did drop their price to 58cents per can in the 20 can slab not too long after the change to 375ml cans. At that point in time, either Coles or Woolies were doing that price, but you had to buy 3 x 24 can slabs. More details on our website….. http://loadedtrolley.com.au/coke-varieties-cost-confusion/

As for not having prices published, you can just get online with a smart phone and check Coles' and Woolworth's online stores for a comparison. You can also follow keep up by checking up on our website (http://loadedtrolley.com.au/), like Loaded Trolley on Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/LoadedTrolley) or follow us on Twitter (@LoadedTrolley).

this has already been done at another website www.ilovecostco.com.au

They used to update prices fairly regularly - not sure over the past few months now:

  • In the lead up to Christmas and New Year celebrations, Loaded Trolley is publishing lists of food and beverage products and their prices that people would be buying at this time of the year. A couple of those key items for the Christmas lunch or dinner tables are poultry and seafood.
