Not negging the deal - more a knock on our domestic travel status quo….since when did $85 b/w Syd and Mel become a hot fare with Virgin? Three years ago I would regularly get that route for $59 on Virgin (as low as $45 during "happy hour"). Isn't air travel, like all technologies, supposed to get cheaper with time?

Virgin Australia are trying to position themselves as a more premium airline than jetstar and as such most of their flights are priced accordingly.

probably the reason why they bought into tiger.

Be that as it may, while Virgin is attempting to steal Qantas' business market, I would not say my experience with Virgin has changed any in the last 3 years to actually justify the price hike. Just saying "we're appealing to the business community" does warrant more expensive airfare without improving the product.

Admittedly, I only fly Virgin 3-4 times per year, so perhaps I'm ignorant to the changes they've made since 2009 to explain an 89% fare increase.

    • Struggling to find $85 each way, most are $110. I was on Virgin's website early last night looking for international flights and I'm sure MEL-SYD was $85 at the time.

      • Had a quick look and found heaps in Feb, Mar, May and June. Check the travel dates in the terms and conditions above.

    • I'd rather pay a little extra and go with Virgin than have to fly Tiger

Thanks rohanp16! Was planning to book a flight in the next couple days. Saved me just over $30.
Maybe not a huge saving but it makes up for all Amex Virgin offers I was too slow to make use of!

Fellow tasmanian ! Glad it helped you out :)

The savings are much less than they were for a similar sale that I booked for Oct just gone, but it is a savings.

I love virgin now because all flights from perth to syd,mel or bris come with free grog, food and entertainment.

  • $358 for BNE-PER is pretty good considering they now have free meals and beer/wine.

  • I received this email too. I'm confused as to where/when I enter the code though as the email says "To access these fares, simply enter the promotion code VEL48HR after you have searched for your flights online. The promotion code can be entered under the search panel on the left." BUT… there is no search panel to the left.

Can anyone solve this for me, am I missing something obvious?

After searching for flights enter in the box on left of screen under flight search details there is a promo code box

      • Thanks! Somehow missed that the 1st 6 times!

  • I suck at looking for flights. I get confused by the charges and whether flights are one-way or return and so on (don't judge me, I'm good at other things…). We've just decided we're going to go to QLD over New Years, and we need to book flights ASAP since it's already so late. Is webjet - or similar - the place to go? Or the individual sites? Any advice = fantastic.

    • Find the flights you want on webjet and then go to the airline website directly to book it.

      • But I was looking on webjet, then I looked at the individual sites, and the prices were different between the two.

    • Try Adioso.com.au

      • I tried Adioso this morning and flights were $40 cheaper on Jetstar page. Melb-Launceston was the route
