Looks like the 15% off promo code is now working from Unidays & Studentbeans!
Stack with $450 bonus store credit, as well as 10% back as store credit for Google One 2TB/m members.
That's a pretty good discount all up on a just-announced phone!

The pre-order deals this time around don't seem that attractive, mainly due to the hike in price. Additionally what isn't shown amongst the launch hype is the modest incremental improvement in the Tensor G4 which is still way behind the competition before we factor in the next gen qualcomm chips are around the corner.
As much as I want to switch to Pixel, I simply don't trust Googles commitment to products and overall quality. I don't think this phone can position itself at the same level as a 15 Pro Max or S24 Ultra IMO.
Coming from someone who's owned the 5,6,7,8 before jumping across to Samsung.
Yeah If you don't have a few hundred $ of credit sitting in your google account from last years pixels then the deal isn't as good IMO. In your case probably wait till the 10 and see if google can pull a rabbit out of the hat with their first fully custom chip.
We all know this years chip wasn't actually planned and kinda thrown together last min as their custom chip wasn't 100% ready… which should bode well for the custom chip being good next year.
100% spot on,
I'm cautiously optimistic the switch to a full custom TSMC fabbed chip will bring this back in-line with the competition…. but remind myself it will be a 1st generation offering.
so technically we should wait until 2nd or 3rd gen. Then it would be 2-3 years to wait. But then by that time they will be on the verge of producing 1.8nm chip. The wait will never end.
But I do agree with y'all if can wait until Tensor 5 (assuming it will be on 3nm) then wait.
For the first time in a decade I will skip this phone and wait for the next.
You've been buying Pixel/Nexus every year for a decade?
Username also checks out haiyaaa
I started with the Nexus p or whatever it was and have been buying the new model each year and sold off the old ones. Wasn't a huge investment with well priced pixel models and purchase offers and plus always good re-sale prices, but this time tell them they're dreaming…not doing it!
it was this one https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nexus_6P
launched in 2015 so it's nearly a decade of owning pixel phones and upgrading each year… but not this year…

Me too, I think it's because I don't care enough about the AI features.
same here, insane prices and no good deals
I think moving forward it will keep increasing in price if they are trying to compete with Apple and be premium.
Yeah I don't buy them every year except the JB hi-fi pre-release deals have been good. Not quite as good this year (higher RRP and 75$ less trade). Was good skipping the even models but got the p7, 8 and probably get 9 and call it quits then. Also don't care about AI but a proper fingerprint scanner be good (otherwise the p8 had been good).
Does anyone know if I've been put on a family plan for Google One monthly T2B if I still get the 10% back, or do I need to be the 'plan manager'?
I'm still using a 4 XL, which was $800 on the Vodaphone deal.
Now $1500 wow.
Might need to upgrade to the Moto G84 then.
Insane prices for pixel phones, dreaming.
Can the 450 + 10% purchase store credit be used for Google One subscription ? Currently, my 2TB subscription is linked to the credit card, so can I use the store credit for the subscription going forward?
no
No, it's google STORE credit
I wonder what the specs for the pixel 9 pro compare to 9 pro xl going to be
It's on the Google website, you can compare specs of the different models.
Almost identical
Worked out I could sign up for Student Beans with my wife's work email (she works in a school) :)
If I get a 2TB Google Drive subscription for 1 month, can I get the additional 10% discount and cancel the subscription next month?
If you pay for it in the first month yes I think.
I applied and got one month free but it says my 10% perk doesn't start until a month later (I assume when I actually pay)..
ahh so you can't use the 10% cashback on devices, only on services.
I'm so on the fence about this phone. All up with trading in my p7pro and the uni discount and google one credit i can be out just under $900 for the 9 pro xl plus i'll have around $500 google credit. Seems good but there's nothing i really need a new phone for. My phone takes good photos, is fast enough and battery lasts a full day.
Yeah I wouldn't if I were you. I was thinking about getting this without trade in, coming from an older Samsung but as I was clicking through I'm already getting buyer's remorse before I finished checkout. Such an incremental upgrade from the 8 and even the 7, the G4 chip is underwhelming, you are saving a bit with all the credit and discounts but the price is so inflated in the first place it hardly seems worth it if you can look past the "bargain".
Yep definitely agree. The AI stuff seems interesting. But i know for a fact that i'll use it once or twice then forget it's even there for months. :)
I feel exactly the same. I feel like I don't know what good phones there are these days. I'm happy to pay for a higher end phone but 2k is a bit ridiculous imo. Miss the old days of Nexus or OnePlus.
Is google now following the shitty apple name pro, pro plus, pro max, pro xl shit!
Did anyone get the code working? It's not working for me(unidays)
Supposedly unidays has 2 codes and the second one works according to someone.
Is there any way to get a 15% code without an .edu email address? :(
128gb on a flagship phone in 2024 is hilarious. Especially for $1500+.
I just checked my pixel 7 pro with 128gb and I'm using 57% of my storage. Yes I did clear out my photos recently and they are on the cloud so I'm happy to go with a 128gb phone again this year.
That's good that it works for you, but 128gb is a laughably small amount of storage space for this price range. A 512gb NAND chip would cost about $50. It works in Google's favour when people run out of local storage, got to keep those cloud subscription fees rolling in.
I lament the death of microsd slots in flagships.
Agree with your comment, 128 GB for a flagship phone in 2024 is unacceptable but companies want to milk the customers by charging even more for the upgrades.
Well I caved. Wasn't going to but I'm a bit under $900 out of pocket for the 128gb pro xl after trading in my p7pro plus I get $600 in google credit. Can't really complain too much about that.
How did you get $600 in credit?
$450 bonus credit from Google Plus 10% of RRP from Google One Subscription
For anyone wanting to get an extra 10% off with Google one subscription. I originally signed up with the free 2tb which has a free trial, it doesn't let you get the 10% off until the trail ends
But I paid for the upgrade to 5TB for $30, then discount perk applied immediately. Even 2 months at $30 will save you $100.
After student beans, store credits and trading in my P8 Pro, the P9 Pro XL costs $115.. no brainer really.
did you have $500 store credit from buying the p8?
I didn't, I bought my P8 Pro from a family member who switched to iPhone 🤢
I'm hoping this credit lasts until the p10 is out. If not, upgrade for the Mrs.
Hi all,
Anyone knows if they restocked the pixel 9 pro in the alst few days?
it has been showing out of stock since wednesday.
It's hasn't been available to buy at all. It will be released in the next few weeks for preorder most likely.
First time they've done this. Unsure why.
Really? So no one was able to order the 9pro?
I feel like I'm being pressured to buy the xl before the launch deals expire.
Yea no one(possibly just Aus and maybe other countries) have been able to order the pro (non xl) yet.
It's weird they did this. No idea why. It seems like they rushed this new model out 2 months earlier than they usually do, and things are a bit all over the place.
@Windows98: Probably to announce before Apple and tempt people to go for it first. Pixel 9 pro probably not ready to sell and they sell the more expensive one first.
@Windows98: This is strange. I am leaving Australia the 28th of sept, I think I will be forced to get the XL variant as I don't think the normal pro model will be shipped by then.
(As a true ozbargainer, I have to claim the gst on the way out for another 10% discount).
@Windows98: Yeah it says spring release (so wouldn't be before Sept 1).
Shame can't know before these other deal expire, but hopefully same pre-release may apply.
probably grab the 9 anyway i guess.
Hi all, does anyone know if purchases from the AU google store attracts any foreign exchange fee?
Think in the past transactions were charged from Singapore (see https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/577817) and were treated as transaction processed overseas?
Thanks in advance!
Never been charged any overseas fees
Any idea if I can price-match Unidays offer with Jbhifi? Obviously cant do it during pre-order period, but after 22 Aug.
Nope
Can I combine the 15% (via studentbeans) + 10% (Google one) for a total of 35%?
If your 10% refers to 10% store credit for Google one premium/2tb subscription.. then yes that's what this whole post is about.
No, and 15+10 = 25 :)
What cases is everyone getting?
As I've been doing for over 5 years. Ali express cases for $5 and same quality and protection as any of the branded ones that cost $30
Highly recommend "Spigen" this Korean brand. All their cases are extremely high rated and is a real protection (Vs those cheap China copies):
https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/235695510034?var=536018142792
Shipped from Melbourne via free express post (if you are eBay Plus member). Spigen has a sub-brand called Caseology with nice design and texture. The one on eBay is only $27, very reasonable price for a solid well designed protection case.
Got the spigen rugged armour, as I do for every phone from pro gadgets. Went for the option with lens protector to use the $5 eBay plus voucher (otherwise 24.99). Great cases, no need to spend any more.
https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/235695680873?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mk…
Haven't ordered the phone yet (but started the trade via JB deal). I may wait for the 9 Pro pre-release but not keen to spend too much these days when the normal pixel is fine. iPhone prices without being as good.
Anyone know if the StudentBeans code works on the Pixel Fold? The terms says "15% off Pixel Phones" but doesn't specify which models.
Dont believe so
Bit the bullet and ordered the Pro XL even though I wanted the Pro. $450 credit was the incentive with none for the non XL.
yeah thinking I may get the normal Pixel (as i usually do), the pro is tempting but not sure if it's $300 better.
Mine got shipped just now!!! 😁
Congrats! When did you order?
On the 14th!!
Just had mine shipped and the credit from the purchase and the Google one subscription is available to spend already.
Can u use the credit to buy another pixel 9 pro xl ?
Yes
Yep. With the accumulated credit and student beans discount, a second 9ProXL comes to $964 out of pocket. And another $574.18 in credit…
$574.18 credit is this including the google one sub? you can use the extra credit you get for having this sub to pay for devices like another phone?
@MKBHD: Yes all my math is including the Google one subscription. Which is worth getting for one month to get more discount.
@Windows98: Hey I know you switched to the 5TB and paid for it straight away. Do you know if I could stick to my 2TB trial, order the phone, and still get 10% back as store credit at the end of trial when the actual subscription starts? Would that work?
@Windows98: Thanks mate. Its showing I will only get $112 back as store credit after I applied Unidays code and also applied $450 credit from previous Pixel purchase. So $81 profit in store credit after deducting $31 for 5TB. Total credit back $450+$112. Still not too bad as long as Pixel 10 is not delayed due to TSMC and I can use the $562 credit for it then :D
What would be a rough price I could resell a brand new Pro 9 XL, 128gb black, for?
Already done the JB's deal. Contemplating doing this SB/Google deal as I've got access to Student beans voucher, have a Google One sub and have a P7P that I can trade in for $700 (easier than mucking around with Gumtree).
I would resell the phone from this SB/Google deal. Only thing holding me back is the Google Store credits…. I don't think I'd use the $607.
Check eBay sold listings (may not be many yet). You wouldn't be able to get more than what someone could buy the phone with the same deals. Why not spend the JB voucher get another one from there (or just keep me the voucher for next year's phone). May sus the 9 Pro and sell 9 perhaps if the deals are better/same (but the 9 is the best value, given all the price hikes).
I wouldn't want to get stuck with Google credit either, expires in a year and don't forget the phones were released two months early this time.
The deal has to stack up without considering the Google credit I think. I'm just really tempted due to the $700 P7P buyback.
Yeah that's pretty generous,
I think I was happy with JB $200 bonus+$300 trade (p8 128GB)+$250 GC. Still not as good as previous years, I could have skipped the p8 by the 7 wasn't perfect either.
Probably should have waited for the pro but maybe next time, this should last me more than a year.. bit worse value every year..
It probably won't work out. People know the Google deals and discounts are the way to go when buying it. So will be hard to get decent coin for it while there's discounts and credits available. Even after, android buyers are tight arses.
Source: me
You're probably right…. Bit of a risk holding onto a high priced item and watching the value go down as I'm trying to sell it. Also HAVING to use the Google Store credit…
I was thinking of using the Store credit to get the the smaller pro (and sell my XL) when it comes around but I think I'll just hang onto the JB's deal XL.
Mine got delivered this morning :)
So for $1111.64 ($1699.15+$12.49-$600) and a Google Pixel 6 Pro
You get a Pixel 9 Pro XL 256GB + $619.92 Store credit.
Google are offering 300$ for pixel 8? Just checked, pixel 6 pro $250 trade in. Sounds like you're taking about something else?
The trick is trying to use all that Google store credit within 12 months.
It's definitely $600 for Pixel 6 Pro in good condition - it's mentioned on the received email too. (I ordered Pixel 9 XL, maybe the trade value change depending on the model you select).
Sounds alright, probably more markup on those more expensive models.. yeah possibly, i just started off selecting the phone on the google site and didn't say anything that much. Don't have student beans anyway nor want Google credit (so ended up ordering on JB)
Received my Pixel 9 Pro XL 128Gb yesterday and so far really impressed.
If you joined to the 2TB Google One subscreiption to get the extra 10% credit then when you get you phone it has a free 12mth Plan for the Ai Premium plan (usually $31.49 a month). When you join it upgrades your existing paid plan and give you extra days credit for the remainder of your $12.49 2TB plan.
Also love that all the google credit I received from buying this phone was enough for me to order a new 45mm Pixel Watch 3 (with help from 10% off studend beans code.
I've got a Google one 2TB subscription.
So, what you're saying is that it adds time onto your existing sub? So if I delay joining the AI premium plan that was included with the 9 pro XL I can extend out?
If you have the 2TB monthly subscription and accept the pixel 9 offer for Ai Permium Plan then it uses whatever credit you had left you your months subscription and adds it to 12month Premium AI 2TB Subscription so basically gave me 12month and 6 days.
Does any third party charger capable of 45w charge 0-70% in approx 30mins? E.g. will the ugreen 65w charger work? Or is it like Samsung where you need the Samsung branded 45w charger to achieve the stated speeds?
These are still on special it seems, would be fine:
https://amzn.asia/d/fTtYdUk
High-Speed USB-C Charging: Charge USB-C notebooks at high-speed via the 45W USB-C port, or get a powerful charge for tablets and other mobile devices via the 20W USB-C port.
I'm just going to use the 30-33W ones I have for now, one powerbank does 65W though.
Would this charge 0-70% in around 30mins or is it much slower than the Google one because Google intentionally makes third party chargers slower (like Samsung)?
@User889344: I am not going to order anyway unless JB plan cancel price, but just want to warn others of the risk of credit expiring if next phone is delayed. Also kind of forces you to get a new phone every year, good if buying 2 phones but then next phone will have credit you need to use within 12 months too.
