Return Business Class Airfare BRUSSELS-SYDNEY ~$2,200 (Finnair/Cathay Pacific/Qantas)

690

Fare must originate in Brussels or Amsterdam (not the opposite direction from Australia), so this bargain isn't for everyone, but for Aussie expats in Europe, those with friends/family in Europe, or those willing to book this fare in conjunction with another fare departing Australia this is one of the cheapest return business class fares I've ever seen between Europe and Australia.

Flying FlyBe (Finnair codeshare) between Brussels and Helsinki, Finnair between Helsinki and either Hong Kong, Bangkok, Osaka, Tokyo or Shanghai. Depending on the layover in Asia you chose, Cathay Pacific, Qantas, Jetstar, Japan Airlines or British Airways (Finnair codeshares) to Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane or Cairns.

My recommendation would be Cathay Pacific through Hong Kong, because of the excellent lounges at HKG as well as the excellent new business class cabin they use on certain flights between HKG-SYD/MEL/BNE. Probably goes without saying you should avoid at all costs any itinerary that includes a leg on Jetstar, when there are full service options available! :)

Only available at finnair.com. Select 'multiple destination' and 'Business' class on the booking form, BRU-HEL (or AMS-HEL) for flight 1, HEL-SYD (or other Australian city) for flight 2, SYD-HEL for flight 3 and HEL-BRU (or AMS) for flight 4. Dates are up to you — most dates in 2013 are available, I think. Price should be about 1,780EUR including all taxes; fare class is a class I 'Business Saver' fare with change and cancellation restrictions (fare rules state 25% cancellation charge). Price is about 2,400EUR if you need to head to MEL or BNE instead of SYD.

Ask in comments if you have any questions — I'll do my best to help. :)

Probably should be in the forums.

    http://www.ozbargain.com.au/wiki/help:deal_posting_guideline…

DEALS that are available to Australia.

    • +14

The deal is available to Australia and Australians — only caveat is that the flight must start in Belgium. I'm sure there are OzBargainers who can take advantage of this — I have, for one. :)

      • +3

No it sounds great, all deals should go via Belgium.

        • +5

Feel free to neg the deal if you don't believe it should be here.

        • -1

          AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

      • +2

So you flew to Belgium then booked a return business class flight to Australia and back to Belgium and then flew back home again?

        • +3

I need to be in Europe twice next year. One return trip is paid for using frequent flyer points, the other return trip is this deal.

          SYD-BRU using FF points.
          BRU-SYD using this deal.
          SYD-BRU using this deal.
          BRU-SYD using FF points.

= two return flights to Europe

As I said in the OP, this is a good deal if you can use it in conjunction with another fare (like me), or if you know people based in Europe (I've passed it on to a few expats I know), but I also acknowledge it's not for everyone.

        • Did u manage to book the deal? I didnt =(

    • +7

I'm sure when you are thoroughly exhausted, stung by jellyfish and have soiled yourself from seeing a fin, you will gladly spend $2000+ to be plucked from the ocean and pampered with shitty aeroplane food and drinks!

        • +9

It's about saving money. Everyone has relative incomes and spending habits. This site is about paying less for a particular product or service. Of any value. If someone can find a discounted solid gold toilet that can be considered a bargain too.

        • +1

Stop trying to speak on everyone's behalf dude

        • +7

…. I don't think you understand how this works.

Value for money wise, this deal is absolutely killer. Moreso if you're a frequent flyer, have status, or want status.

        • average airfare price between australia and Europe around A$1500-2000, so if you pay extra couple hundred you get business class, why not? especially when business class normally 3x price of economy class and very rare they have discount price on business class. so it is bargain.

  • Wow! Excellent deal… great find, thanks. I have folks back in the UK who'll be able to take advantage of this when they come across here next year. Super cheap price!

EDIT: Although i'm struggling to find any dates available for this price..? I'm thinking Brisbane is not included in this deal.

    • What dates do you need? I'll have a look — deal is still working on a random set of dates in 2013 I just entered.

      • I've tried most dates in 2013, cheapest is around 2400 euros. BRU - BNE anytime early to mid next year.

        • Ahh, I just tried a bunch dates with Melbourne and Brisbane as the destination rather than Sydney, and those destinations do seem to be 2,400EUR rather than 1,780EUR as it is for Sydney. I'll update the OP, sorry about that!

It's probably still a fairly good deal if you need to get to Melbourne or Brisbane instead — you should earn more than enough FF points with this deal to get return flights to either of those cities from Sydney. :)

  • I am also struggling to find the dates available for this price? what did i do wrong?

    • See my comment above if you're trying to book this to MEL or BNE; it appears MEL and BNE is ~2,400EUR rather than ~1,780EUR for SYD. I've updated the OP; my apologies!

      • Thanks. I have seen the price but after I selected the particular flight, the price become null or 0.00, then i cannot proceed any further. What should i do this this problem?

        • finnair.com seems to have an issue with Chrome and Safari. Try Firefox; no null or 0.00 problem at checkout when I tried just then. :)

  • This deal has already been reported for the same price days ago on a particular flight/holiday blog, also including the same deal from Amsterdam (so it isn't, or wasn't, just restricted to Brussels). In general, flights are cheaper from Belgium than the Netherlands, though the price is the same for this deal. I agree that this deal should be in the forums, as it won't apply to 99% of people reading this website who are based in Australia.

    • Updated OP to reflect that it also works from AMS. I found out about this fare from the flyertalk forums; which blog did you see this on?

Happy for the mods to move it to the forums, or delete the post if they so wish.

And yet you gave no credit. "Ay bru/ams-hel-hkg/bkk/sin-syd r/t 1773€ ai" should have got you started and, for example, "BRU-AY-HEL-AY-HKG-AY/CX/QF-BNE/CNS/MEL/SYD-JQ/QF-SYD" should also have been of interest. But this isn't a travel forum. ;)

Why didn't you post it if you saw it days ago? $2200 for bizzo on quality airlines is spectacular.

  • Very tempting! Thanks for posting… How did you find it? Luck or?

Do you know of you can stop over for a few days etc along the way and still get the same saver ticket or it changes the breakdown? (sorry on my phone so haven't checked myself, thought you might know).

Any idea of rules? As in max stay etc or when the offer ends?

    Thanks!

How did you find it? Luck or?

I found out about it on the Flyertalk forum.

Do you know of you can stop over for a few days etc along the way and still get the same saver ticket or it changes the breakdown?

The finnair.com site doesn't allow enough legs (maximum of 4) to allow you to book a stopover in Asia, but you can stopover in Helsinki.

Any idea of rules? As in max stay etc or when the offer ends?

No restrictions on max stay AFAIK, but it needs to be bookable on finnair.com and they only allow bookings until October 2013. No idea when the offer ends, but I suspect it won't be around for too long. :)

  • Can't wait for more deals like this. Im sure there are a lot of London - New York flights that a lot of traveling Aussies could take advantage of too.

    • Government taxes and fees out of London in particular are bordering on extortion, which is why you will most likely never see deals as good as this out of the UK. I've known friends in London to reposition in Europe to go home for this very reason.

      • My comment was tongue-in-cheek about how useful for everyone here this deal was, in that you could post a bargain anywhere in the world as some Aussies might be able to take part in it.

        • I won't post a deal like this again, I promise.

Emirates are also doing a sale at the moment which must be booked by the 3rd and must originate in the UK, I haven't looked too closely at it but I'm sure it'll be on their site

    • +2

Emirates are always doing sales! If you ever find one beating $2200 return in Business please be sure to let someone know in the right place. ;)

Nice. How long ago was that?

  • Great barg OP - Well done

  • -6

Great deal.. But this is Oz bargain right? Not BelgBargain? Awesome stuff.. Won't neg but
    won't pos either..
Really wish it was the other way around.. Otherwise I would have jumped on the deal yesterday…

    • I have friends and family who might make an extra visit to oz because of this cheap deal, and I'm as oz as anybody.

  • +1

Thanks for posting OP. This one will be perfect for my mother who is UK-based.

  • Thanks for posting great deal

  • fly away!

  • I have tried quite a few dates and I keep getting "We are unable to find recommendations for your search. Please change your search criteria and resubmit the search. (66002)"
    What am I doing wrong?

    • Looks the fare has been pulled — I'm getting 3,773EUR for SYD now. It's still ~2,400EUR for MEL or BNE, which is an OK deal, but obviously not as good as the previous fares to SYD.

Congrats to those who got in on the deal while it was still hot! Marked as expired.

      • It didn't last long - surely it wouldn't have been ozbargained - hehehe

  • Can't seem to get 2400 euro to Brisbane or Melbourne - it's coming back as over 4100 euro.

    • Everything's back up to normal price now it seems — it was 2,400EUR when I checked this morning, but that fare has gone now too.
