Price Checks at Coles

I have shopped at three different Coles recently. All in WA. Freo, Mosman Park and Claremont Quarter. I had price queries at Freo and Mosman Park, but not claremont. These were on diverse items.

At the Freo store, the price tag was in front of the wrong snack item and I told them to give me the item that was on sale.

At the Mosman Park store, they never ever check the aisle price even when I invite them to come with me and look at it. This has sometimes been for items that are what appears to be clearance, even though they don't say it. The most recent one was yesterday or the day before. There was a cupcake pan with cover and platform so that it would hold 24 cupcakes covered. I bought one of these before, perhaps at the original $15 price. The pan was somewhat shitty, but I had a need for the carrier and it was now $5.68 or thereabouts. I figured I hit the jackpot when the register showed $15. I had carefully checked the price and item. The checkout guy just gave me the lower price. A different checkout guy and a checkout girl have done the same thing recently with other items. No question, no problem, just give me the lower price. The reason I was a little disappointed was I reckoned that I would get the items free under their checkout guarantee.

Does anyone reckon that some stores are now just giving a lower price rather than risking having to give the item away?

  • Nah the operators are lazy, insist on the product for free, it's their policy.

I usually write special or reduced prices beside the item on my shopping list and then check after I leave the register. Then just front at the kiosk as this is usually run by a supervisor and they will always give it for free.

Yep always agree with price on docket…hey hey THEN hit the front counter for free item

(double check item is matching so you don't end up looking like a goose)

  • had same problem with Coles and Woolworths, I have gone to the front counter and been told it is only on scan errors (whatever that means) and this was a person error, so the would not give me the item for free only give me back the difference (extra) I have paid. anyone know where to find a copy of the policy, would be nice to know what I should get, thanks

Scanning policy works only if the description on the ticket(shelf label) matches the item being sold, comes up at a higher price when scanned at the checkout.

If the item is misplaced, as in human error scanning policy does not apply.

ie: 24 pack coke is put in front of 12 pack shelf label, scanning policy does not apply, as this can be easily misplaced by anyone including customers.

  • Just got back from my Local Woolies(out of date tag) result 1 free choc bar and refund of the diff for the other ;)

    • I thought you got up to two of the same item for free when there was a scanning error.

      • nah first free then refund of diff for all others
