Google Pixel 9 Pro XL 128GB $247 ($1600 off) with JB Hi-Fi Mobile $99/M 24M SIM Plan (Min Cost $2376) @ JB Hi-Fi (In-Store)

330

Seems JB Hi Fi returned the very famous deal they had with the Google Pixel 9 pro xl preorder. This time they don't give an extra 350$ JB gift card, but still not a bad deal for people missed the pre-order deal.

    • Phone cost after after $1600 off = $1097

That's for the Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold. This deal post is for the XL.

      • +1

Ohhh my bad! Unpublished due to my mistake. LOL.

  • +1

What's the early termination fee for the plan? 😉

    • +6

$800 pro rata, so $767 (23/24 months) + $99 for first month. Essentially, you can buy a $1600 JB Hi Fi gift card for $866 after returning the phone for a refund within 30 days. Call me crazy, but people would be silly not to take this offer up!

      • +1

Hi Frank, would we be able to get the Jb card and then use this deal again for another phone?

        • +2

There would be no reason why you couldn't. They will give you a $1600 gift card that must be used towards the phone. You then return the phone and use the gift card to buy another phone.

          • @SirFrankGrimes: On JB refund policies it says Exclude Commercial Sales. Is this one counted as a commercial sale ? 🤔

          • +1

@SirFrankGrimes: You'll still have to pay back $866 from your own money and can't do that with a gift card.

I like your way of thinking and the lengths people are going to. The outright pre-order deal is the best if you wanted this phone and would have got the $350 voucher.

The s24 ultra deal you get the voucher still, but I'm waiting for the 9 Pro.

      • +1

How would that actually work? I mean if you return the phone they give you back a gift card voucher or 1600$?

      • +3

        Infinite money glitch

      • It seems to be a 'discount' to the actual purchase price, not a gift card.

They do have the $1,200 gift card offer running as well.

        Unless I'm mistaken?

"The $1600 off the purchase price of a Google Pixel 9 Pro XL Phone (referred to as the “JB Hi-Fi Voucher” in the Telstra Terms and Conditions) will be applied to the purchase price of a Google Pixel 9 Pro XL Phone and available to you instore after connection approval by Telstra. "

Worded as a discount, but described as a voucher and seems to apply after the purchase.

        • +2

From previous experience with their “$800 off an iPad” deal, they use a JB Hi Fi gift voucher of the same value to discount the price of the item. You then pay the rest in cash.

If you then decide to return the item within 30 days, they’ll refund you the cash portion and provide you with a gift card for the rest (ie $1600). You may get lucky and have the whole thing refunded onto your card. I had that happen recently.

          • @SirFrankGrimes: Amazing thank you!

          • @SirFrankGrimes: When you say return, it must be unopened, correct?

Would be nice if you can use and choose to return it you don't like it similar to Apple store.

          • @SirFrankGrimes: Be careful with that, I got returned in gift card no cash.

            • @G-rig: At a minimum, they must refund back to your original form of payment. I’m fine being given a gift card for the gift card portion of my original payment. It’s still an incredible deal.

              • @SirFrankGrimes: Actually I did check again after writing that. Referring to another Pixel deal. There's a bit going on with coupons and trades. So I got the original upfront payment back via Afterpay (and in turn to my card), but since I returned the phone I won't be trading my Pixel 8 so the $300 (charge/hold) that was taken from my c/card by SquareTradeUp was given back in the form of gift voucher via JB, along with the balance of another gift voucher I used.

Pretty complicated these days with all these deals..

                It’s still an incredible deal

Yes the S24U is pretty tempting but have had Pixels for about 10y. Also don't think I want a huge phone anymore. Agree not a bad deal if it costs about $1000 instead of $2k.

        • @BergzBargz PS dm me the details of the store where I get get this deal, I visited my local store they said, I'll have to pay the full amont on returning the phone or cancelling the plan after 1 month. TIA

      • excuse my ignorance, but how does this actually work? If you kept the phone but cancelled the contract you would only be 866 out of pocket? Have i understood that correctly? So paying 866 dollars for a Pixel 9 Pro?

      • Hi. Does that mean I will have 1600-866=734 JB GC for free?

      • Sorry for not understanding but are you saying you get more money out of this deal than you put in? And what if you don't want to return the phone, all you have to pay in total is $866?

      • Hi Frank. Could you please tell me which email did you used for the contract? Currently I'm with boost and was also an ex-telstra customer prior using boost. Should I use the same email or a different one?
        Thanks

        • It’s all based on your ID. They’ll look you up based on that go see if you have an account. Just get a new number if you’re going to cancel it anyway

  • +1

Can someone tell the actual cost of phone after cancellation post 1st month please? Asking for a friend who is bad at math!

    • Something approximating 800 ETF + 99 Telstra + 247 Purchase Out of pocket…

1146 worst case, but probably closer to 1113

  • am I missing something? isn't $1,600 pro rata still $1,600 so where's the discount if you cancel?

    • Read the Critical Information Summary closely. That’s your contract.

  • The terms read as "If you cancel the plan, then you must pay a voucher repayment fee to Telstra pro-rated against the remaining months of your plan's minimal term." So if you cancel after 1 month, the minimal term is 24 months, you have to pay back 23 months. i.e. 23 x $99 = $2,277.

    Is that correct ?

    • No. The voucher repayment fee is specified in the Critical Information Summary. It is $800 pro rata.

      • +1

Not sure about this now. The "$99 upfront plan" says

The $1200 JB Hi-Fi Gift Card will replace the value of the Voucher stated in the Critical Information Summary

        • +1

The $1200 JB Hi-Fi Gift Card will replace the value of the Voucher stated in the Critical Information Summary.

The Voucher is $800. They’re replacing it with a $1200 voucher.

If you cancel or move to a lower cost/different plan then you must pay a Voucher Repayment Fee to Telstra pro-rated against the remaining months of your plan’s minimum term.

Voucher Repayment Fee is $800. This does not change.

Read the fine print carefully. The loophole is still there to be used

          • +2

@SirFrankGrimes: Sorry to be a pain here but new to all this as.i am sure a few others are. Could someone please provide a simple step by step process as to how this all works with the final outcome thanks.

            • +6

@Dunny74: Walk in and ask for this deal. Pay $99 for plan and get $1600 off new phone.

Go home and cancel plan through JB Hi Fi mobile chat. Confirm termination cost is $767.

Either, keep the phone or return within 30 days for a partial refund and $1600 JB Hi Fi gift voucher.

              • @SirFrankGrimes: Ok , so total cost if I keep the phone is $99 for the first month plus $767 cancelation fee. total is $866

                • +2

@Dunny74: Plus the $247 up front for the phone

                • @Dunny74: @SirFrankGrimes do you get the $247 refunded as well if you return the phone?

                  • +1

@Balls1983: Yes, of course. You’re essentially buying a $1600 gift voucher for $866 and a bit of elbow grease. I wouldn’t go walking into JB Hi Fi asking for this deal though haha. Just play the system they’ve created and use the loophole

                    • @SirFrankGrimes: Can you use the $1600 gift card to buy a pixel 9 XL directly later?

                      1600-866=734 and 1849-734 = 1115

                      Vs

                      866+247= 1113

So keeping the phone is a better choice if people still want it.

              • +1

@SirFrankGrimes: What if we do the same thing but with the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra instead?
JB is offering $1700 off and a bonus $300 GC for the Samsung Galaxy S24Ultra with the same $99 plan at the moment.

If one to return the phone, is the bonus $300GC still valid?

  • Is anyone smarter than me able to figure out if these JB deals help with a pixel 8 or 8a?

  • Does this work the same as this deal https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/861465 ?

    • Yes with the difference there's no extra 350$ gift card.

  • Has anyone actually gone through and purchased these deals yet?

As I went to the store this morning and the staff didn't know about this deal.

  • They have 1700$ off for S24 ultra as well for anyone interested, so about the same price for 256GB version.

  • Can I purchase phone, cancel service and get refund. All in the same day?

  • -1

Anyone successfully executed this yet? :)

    • -1

I am not going to recommend anything. You make your own decisions and your own risks.

  • Anyone really got this deal?

  • I just went in store and got a Pixel 9 128GB - $0 on a $99 plan. ($1350 voucher applied) They said it would be $800 if I early terminated - which I'm yet to do but will do so tomorrow!

  • +2

My question now is.. if you get the Samsung s24 ultra which it gives you an extra 300$ JB gift card, when you go to return the device to get refund, are they gonna ask/cancel the gift card they gave you?

    • Wonder if you can price match to telstra:
      https://www.telstra.com.au/mobile-phones/mobiles-on-a-plan/s…

      1899 - 5% = 1804 - 1700 = 104 upfront + 766 + 99= 969 initial out of pocket + 300$ bonus giftcard?

      • Ah jb doesnt do pm with telstra

        • They don't? Is that a policy? I can't find it online

    • The receipt for the phone has no mention of the $300 gift card. I doubt it, and if they asked you to return it you could push them and have them show you documentation that specified you must return it. It shouldn’t be assumed knowledge.

  • +2

Spoke to the rep at the local jb. The $1600 voucher is tied to pixel phones only. If you return the phone, you will get gift card for $1200 only.

    • I will let you know if I have issues tomorrow. The receipt says 1600 voucher applied. In order to zero it both 247 and the 1600 needs to be refunded. You didn't sign up to a 1200gc plan.

      • Please let me know how you went, I am very interested and also not quite sure how this works lol.

        • @slam you are correct in theory. It should also work out in practice. Let us know how it goes

          • -1

@SirFrankGrimes: It was a more than favourable outcome, I'll leave it at that.

            • @slam: Awesome thanks @slam. Will try it today

              • @kindersurprised: Can I try to understand what's happening here?

Sign up for $99 phone plan, get a $1600 voucher, buy the pixel 9 pro xl 128GB at $247 ($1847-$1600)

Then return the phone for a gift card refund of $1847 while keeping the phone plan active?

                • @evilhomura89: Pretty much or else cancel the phone plan also after 1 month and pay $800-$90

                  • @kindersurprised: If the refund is your end goal, then you should sign up with the Samsung Galaxy S24Ultra since they are offering $1700 with an additional $300 for that phone on the same plan.
Not sure if the $300 is still valid after returning the phone but you're still getting $1700 + whatever you're paying for the S24U right?

                • @evilhomura89: And then cancelling the contract. Yeah

            • @slam: Did you got a refund or a gift card voucher?

              • -2

@JinTheGod: I'm not going to say anything more. You can read my comment above and interpret it how you see fit. Theres only so many possible outcomes.

      • Just to ask would you recommend getting the deal then cancelling the contract and returning the phone? I'm def risk adverse so want to make sure this is g2g. Cheers

        • -2

I am not going to recommend anything. You make your own decisions and your own risks.

          • @slam: Touché

            • @Froot: FYI - I’ve attempted this. Took my “change of mind” return to a diff store so as not to take the piss. Things were going smoothly until a manager overheard it and refused a change of mind return on the basis that it was a contracted phone and the vouchers were supposed to be used towards purchase of the phone.
I don’t think their argument has legs (I haven’t read the documentation) but at this stage I’m going to try a different store before fighting it harder.

              • @ts13: Their argument has no legs whatsoever. It’s all based on terms and conditions. Keep trying

              • @ts13: Cheers @ts13 good gouge. I have since gone in and bought it. The guy that sold me the phone funnily enough suggested to use the loophole before I could ever say anything. Even suggested to get a Samsung as you get more in "vouchers". Turns out the wife wanted a new phone anyway. So 800 dollar discount at the end of the day.

              • @ts13: I went to the same store on the same day inspired by the post. Unfortunately the manager overheard it and advised that I would not be able to return the phone as well. Because I was not getting the $1200 gift card but I got the $1700 gift card and that was only for particular phones. I am thinking of trying other stores as well. I just need to read their return policy before trying a different store.

                • @takemybargain: May I know which store was it?
Any updates trying your luck with a different store?

what's the price on the invoice at purchase? looking to claim the phone depreciation at tax time

    • 1847 on mine

  • I rarely use all my data on my prepaid year-long Sim card. This is not the deal for me. Am I right? Surely I'm better just to buy it out right.

  • As @chopper690 also asked, is anyone able to confirm the GST amount shown on the JB HiFi tax invoice on this deal ?
Based on a previous experience when I purchased a S23U from JB HiFi using a similar offer, the GST amount on my tax invoice was $86
Tax invoice showed: S23U $1448, less VOUCHER TELCO-Trade In $500
    ie. (($1448-$500)/11) = $86
The GST was calculated on the S23U price less the $500 voucher. I was actually surprised by this as I thought the GST would had been $131 (based on the price of the S23U which was shown as $1448)

If JB use the same method as previous, the GST on the Pixel 9 Pro XL could be $22.45 ?
    (($1847-$1600)/11) = $22.45 GST

    • Get them to write a paper receipt that will show the full amount, I have used this method in the past for TRS and they were fine with it.

  • +1

Just got the phone from the deal
    Paid 247
GST on the receipt is 167.91

    • wow, you got a great deal, thanks for the GST info :)
      I’m going to JB tomorrow

      • If I'm travelling in months time overseas, my phone still has to be sealed in the box to claim tax back at the airport right?
Sounds like a dumb question but just making sure

        • Hi mate,
no, the phone does not need to be sealed in the box, you don't even need the box, you will need to show the actual phone cause they do check it, along with:
tax invoice, ABN, invoice date less than 60 days before your departure
present your phone & TRS QR code at the Australian Border Force counter, this is after security check when departing from international airport.
I have done this numerous times and never had an issue

          https://www.abf.gov.au/entering-and-leaving-australia/touris…

          • @theycallmeXYZ: Thanks a lot
And the phone you use to present QR code is the same as the new phone i.e. they know you're using it as your personal phone?

            • @hamzie: Just letting you know, you'd have to declare it and pay GST back if you bring it back.

              • @aveeno bb: The GST only has to be paid back if it's above the concession allowance isn't it

                • @hamzie: yes, are you travelling with a family? I believe the limit is $900 per person exc GST, which is lower than the cost of the phone.

            • @hamzie: The TRS QR code is optional, i fill out the TRS claim before going to the airport to save time.
If you don't have a TRS QR code you will have to complete paper work at the Australian Border Force counter, and will need to provide your bank details to receive the GST refund
The new phone you are claiming TRS on does not need to be your personal phone,
They don’t ask who’s phone it is, it just needs to be the phone as detailed on the invoice,

They very carefully check that the phone make and model you present at the counter exactly matches that mentioned on the invoice
