I havent seen Gamebillet before. Is it a legit place to buy games without risking putting your Steam account at risk?

    • +9

      Yes

Easy way to check is to go to the OzB store page. They're an official store, not a keyshop like CDKeys or Eneba.

    • +5

They're listed on IATD (IsThereAnyDeal), so they should be fine.

If you're unsure you could always grab it from GreenManGaming or Fanatical, if you're more familiar with them. (Less than a dollar more expensive, but you may have to hand in your ozb card.)

      • +4

Works out to be ~$0.40 cheaper if you use Cashrewards on Fanatical, but if you're not bothered to go through all that cashback stuff, no reason not to go GameBillet as they are undoubtedly legit.

  • +8

This is quite possibly one of my favourite games of all time. Highly recommended

    • +4

It's getting a bit stale isn't it? I guess it's a good time to buy into it if it's new to you, while people are still in servers.

      • +1

The world resets and you have to collectively start a new fight.

      • +1

It gets stale after you unlock everything and after the third or fourth warbond. For this price, this is a great purchase.

But even if you spend 25 hours on it, still worth the purchase price.

      • +2

Few It is getting a bit stale, but for a new player its still hell of a lot of fun for a while - I have like 300 hours into this game.

Well worth the money, even more so if you get a couple of mates together and buy at same time.

  • +4

Is this game any good now? More recent reviews are putting me off, especially comments about the developers and such

    • +9

They just put out a 60 days road map for more balancing, but for right now, it's not that good, feels too grindy and not rewarding

    • +8

Its only really fun playing with your friends that you know well. Randoms on the internet just do dumb shit and ruin it. Eg: killing you for no reason at the end of an hour long mission, so you essentially get zero xp

      • +10

killing you for no reason at the end of an hour long mission, so you essentially get zero xp

I'm at level 83 and I haven't encountered this at all. I only play with randoms.

        • +3

Lvl 118 here and yeah never really encountered griefers until recently.

People are just bored of the game and hate the direction the devs took. Still rare though I maybe only encountered 1 or 2 "chaos divers" in the last month.

      • +4

It happens, but if it's at the end of a mission the main thing you lose is whatever samples you were carrying if no one else picks them up before leaving. You still get all the mission XP bar the small amount you would have gotten for successful extraction. No mission is an hour long either. :V

      • totally agree (Disco-Jango). 3 or 4 of us (long time gaming together) have regular sessions, do comms on discord, sort out roles/tactics with each mission. We have a lot of fun with this game - we team well but there is still a lot of audible panic screams at times which just adds to the fun, not to mention the 'accidentals' scan in the stats at mission end.
we're looking forward to this week's largish update with new stratagems and warbonds

      • +1

The random stuff is the best. You get a sense of what the randoms are like, some will try to complete all objectives, others the collectables, some will just goof off. The unspoken understanding, the intuition, is what makes it fun. You never know what people might do.

    • +2

The only real issues the game has had were technical troubles like the initial server issues and the frequent crashes. The actual gameplay has always been good.

      • +2

From recent reviews, it sounds like they’ve changed the game quite substantially so it’s a lot more “grindy”.
I think the sever issues and the PSN account have been resolved and aren’t the concern anymore

        • +1

The only thing that really needs to be grinded are super credits for warbonds, because they want people to spend real money on those otherwise. But this has always been the case from the start.
Samples could be considered grindy too, but that comes down to what difficulty you play on.

        • +2

The PSN account thing hasn't been resolved. They lied and said "its steams fault" that they had to remove like 100 countries from being able to buy it. Those countries are still removed to this day.

      • Forgot the devs nerfing anything fun into the ground

    • +7

Its good up to above level 60, then once you have everything, gets very very boring. Pity the developers just dumped this game out and have done next to nothing to it at all. Same missions, same maps, same bugs, same glitches, same crashes.

@DiscoJango, totally agree, there are absolute morons running around this game, I tend to play Helldive as 95% of people playing that have mics and are decent.

      • +1

We'll be getting a big update with the Illuminate faction sooner than later. Chances are it'll be happening after this current little story arc with the Gloom. The devs recently accidentally enabled their faction zones on the map for a few minutes so they gotta be getting close.

        • +1

Might be too little too late, I can see this game becoming a ghost town once BO6 comes out. Yeah there will still be the hardcore HD2 gamers, but watch the server load come end of October.

          • @BatmanAU: People said the same thing about SM2, but at least that game has some overlap.

        • +1

The old adage “Buy based on today’s capability, not the promise of what is to come tomorrow” applies here.

The content updates have come at a cost of balance changes that have upset most folks.

Having bought on launch week, it’s definitely feeling stale for me. Even with unlocks, it feels like a grind and the player base particularly in Australia feels like it’s completely deflated.

          • @tommypickles:

Buy based on today’s capability, not the promise of what is to come tomorrow

I'm not sure how that fits at all considering he already bought it and played it a ton?

          • @tommypickles: The old adage “Buy based on today’s capability, not the promise of what is to come tomorrow” applies here

How does that come into the equation? And if I use your comment, I’ve never come across a game that I have played that has not had something added or changed to keep people’s interest.

            • -1

@BatmanAU: @BatmanAU I'm specifically addressing the comment "We'll be getting a big update with the Illuminate faction sooner than later." as a drawcard to jump in now & get engaged. A reminder: Helldivers 2 is a PvE game which requires a community to be playable.

It's at 20k players online now down from 458k peak. That means if you jump online to play it's at 90% smaller player base. That's huge. It is a game in decline in experience: It becomes increasingly harder to play with Australians, leading to games with reduced communications, co-ordination & increased latency.

You can release all the new content you'd like, fix the balance issues you created, patch the bugs so it runs smoother. But if nobody is around to play a PvE game, then you are guaranteed to have a lousy experience. That's how it comes into the equation.

We're not talking about No Man's Sky comeback here which you can play offline by yourself with changes that meaningfully addressed player concerns. We're talking Starfield level 'we promise it'll be better!!!' mixed reactions, unaddressed issues along with the dependency of having other players to play with here.

I expect there'll be some counter-defensive posts here as yes it has been fun but my point is to forewarn prospective players that the meme moment is passed, and that seems like a fair call to make.

              • @tommypickles: It's a four player co-op game. You still find a team of three randoms within less than a minute of matchmaking at any time of day even here in Australia. What's with the doom posting?

                • +1

                  @Altashi: https://steamcharts.com/app/553850

Peak player base has reduced by 91%
                  Recent 30 days peak: 38,376
Peak player count at launch: 458,208

Average player base has reduced by 93%
Recent 30 days average player base: 16,858
Average player base at launch: 274,304

@Altashi I thought you might come back with a defensive argument, which is why I laid out my argument.

You agree the game relies on a healthy player base in order to play. Given the numbers aren't improving I have to wonder — What's with your optimistic posting?

                  • @tommypickles:

You agree the game relies on a healthy player base in order to play.

I don't though. Like I said, it's a four player co-op game. You need three other players at most to play. It's not a competive PvP game where facing different players every match is key to the experience. I genuinely don't understand why people obsess over player count for games like this. At most you could argue that if the game doesn't maintain a large player base, then updates cease. But the original Helldivers had updates for years with a far smaller player base.

      • +1

Level 60 should unlock PVP mode, where you and another squad compete to finish objectives or kill each other, which ever comes first. Super Earth needs civil war to make it interesting again.

    • Still has some performance issues. Lot of people reporting more fps drops each patch.

  • +1

Lots of people are saying it runs fine on Linux with minor tweaks.
    https://www.protondb.com/app/553850?device=any

    • +1

Runs fine on Steam Deck too.

  • +2

Has Arrowhead/Sony released the region locks on playing this game? I've got family overseas who due to the game being locked for sale in their region, can't play it and had wanted to game with me.

    • No update on region locks. No review bomb Cape also :(

    • +7

Nope. They said they'd do something, everyone rejoiced and then nothing came of it.

  • +1

Just need a sale on PS5 version now

  • +3

Personally loved the game early on, then the devs decided to ruin it by endlessly nerfing everything that was fun to use… doesn't seem to have recovered since

    • +2

There's an update coming out in a few days which sees them undoing most of the nerfs. Seems like they're even making the Railgun more powerful than what it was to begin with.

  • +1

Love this game, hands town one of the best online multiplayer games.

  • -2

this game crashes all the time and the matchmaking is terrible

    don't waste your money

  • +2

I might be in the minority, but I feel like this is one of those fad flavour of the month games that generates a ton of interest at the start but you then seemingly never hear about them again like Palworld, Lost Ark, Pokemon Go, New World, etc

    • +1

People were so high on this early on (mainly for the memes, perhaps?), that's why I asked recently what happened to it.

I was always hesitant because of the nProtect GameGuard stuff… mostly because of my paranoia. Maybe I'll pick it up when it gets around the $20-30 mark.

    • +2

Well yes no one expects the game to sustain the initial hype it has when it is launched. All those games you mentioned have healthy population to this date

    • Yeah no one plays Pokemon Go anymore………. (spoiler: plenty still do).

      • It's still earning niantic 500m per year.

Just because a game left media mouth piece, doesn't mean it's dead.

    • +1

See I used to have to same sentiment but then if you check the numbers, most of those games are still doing really well. E.g Palworld has 20k concurrent players rn, Helldivers 2 around 15k, Pokemon Go is a money making machine…

  • got a PS5 is this worth it more on PC? or is there no difference?

    • do u want to matchmake with anyone on pc because it's wildly annoying to do so

      another half finished game released

      • +1

well least I know why its discounted now :D I'll think I will wait till those black friday sales

    • Don't you need to pay a subscription to play multiplayer on PS5?

      • yeah you got to pay for PlayStation plus to go online for all games on ps5, you have a point I guess you don't need to pay on PC.

  • +1

Here's what I think whenever I hear about people talking about this game:

    1. People talk about how this games gets boring….but they've trivially dropped 50+hrs on an arcadey budget priced title. Are they not impressed?

    2. They tell you how the constant balancing/adjustments has ruined the game, but then proceed to say the game is too easy, shallow, not much to do.

    3. How the game is "dying" but yet it has the same player count as other casual coop games like Lethal Company or Killing Floor that keep chugging along.

Perhaps it's only me but if you've arrived at any of those points then you might be over thinking this game.

  • +1

    FOR DEMOCRACY!

  • I won't support a lying developer.

They promised that the 100+ countries they removed from being able to buy it would be reinstated. It has been months, they blamed Valve, and nothing has changed.

It also has kernel level anti-cheat. Which is a huge security risk.

    • -3

Kernel level anti cheat is the only effective anti cheat.

      • Still isn't perfect though. Seen at least a few cheaters in the game.

      • No it's not. There are literally cheaters in Helldivers.

        • No anti cheat is 100% effective. But there’d be way more if they used a non kernel level one , like Warzone for example

  • -1

    Maybe for $10

  • +1

I gifted 2 copies to 2 of my Steam friends, for democracy! I have sunk 400+ hours into this game, can't get enough of it.
The wide range of entertaining and crazy people I've met through this game has more than paid for itself x100

  • Can someone verify the player base for Helldivers 2 is still there or if the community is pretty decent?

Theres been a big hoohah about nerfs, but it seems that the developers are finally listening.

Peak player base has reduced by 91%
      Recent 30 days peak: 38,376

    • +1

Community is very good. I was playing level 4 to farm some super credits late last night and was joined by by couple of regulars met through the game. Then a random gamer from Finland joined and also joined in the banter. You'll never have more fun accidentally killing your squad off or yourself more than Helldivers 2.

I play with people living in Europe, Asia, USA reguarly. I can't think of a game that let's you do that without suffering any noticable lag.

    • The community is decent, I've only came across cheaters or griefers no more than maybe ten times total across 450 hours. Player base is at a fraction of what it was at its peak but you still get full games very quickly.

  • It's almost impossible to play with a steam friend. I had to repeatedly enter and leave rooms for a certain mission in hopes of playing with my mates.

  • I've read the recent updates included the need to sign in to PSN. Is PSN that ongoing paid subscription for PS5 to play multiplayer?
If not, does this change affect us Aussie players much considering there is PSN here?

    • You don't need PSN if you're playing on Steam. They initially planned on requiring it, but some issues arose when the game launched so they removed the requirement. They then announced they were bringing it back some months later, but then people complained so they backtracked.
