Crap ton of free games on Itch.io, are we going to make all 985,425 of them deals? This was a $1 game on Itch.io, the Steam version has only had 6 reviews since 2017, this is a waste of time, with those reviews from relatives of free testing.

Why not give a small indie developer a chance at success rather than promoting the sales of games produced by massive studios.

      • There are literally nearly a million free games on Itch.io. I don't think we need to promote each of them here. In fact the possible suggestion seems bloody bonkers.

I also don't think a game that has been out for 7 years on Steam, has barely any one use it, out of those that have reviewed it 2/6 don't like it, family and free offerings are the ones that like it, and still costs $7.50 needs to be promoted as a deal here. There are other places for us to find indie games, OzBargain deals section shouldn't be that location.

        • I hear what you are saying about the multitude of free games out there but kind of disagree that they shouldn't at least have a chance to be listed here provided the offer fits with OZB's rules. I'm also not suggesting every shovelware game be listed.

However, if it's something that someone has played and they feel it's worthy of a lift then why not? There are plenty of indie gems languishing in game dev hell for years due to the developer having good game making skills but zero promotional skills and if someone can make me aware of one of those games then I'm happy to have a look. I think it's incredibly sad that developers can put so much effort into a game which may have very good chops but have it fail at the launch and then given up on due to just how demoralising that can be.

I'll sometimes find a game that is pretty good fun with an interesting mechanic and well made but notice that it is hidden away in some dark corner, I'll then reach out to the developer with some encouraging words and suggestions in the hope that it spurs them along.

There's something in that saying that you only need one person to believe in you to succeed, although a few extra's can't hurt.

          • @Gravy: What is the deal here though? A low quality game that once cost a dollar on itch.io has now joined the pantheon of free games? 66% positive rating (4/6) on Steam, and one of those 4 was by the developers brother as well as a couple of freebies reviews, so possible friends.

Should someone here create a bot that posts a deal every 10 minutes of one free games on itch.io? It would promote those indie developers, informs people of free games on itch.io, so a good deal. Or perhaps there could be a single post highlighting the vast amount of free games on itch.io and for you to check them out?

I frequent itch.io, I've uploaded free games, I don't think this is an OzBargain deal myself.

            • @FabMan: I guess it's all a bit subjective on personal taste as to whether it's a good game or not, I haven't played it so I can't say either way although I do sometimes enjoy a good shmup and the video didn't seem too bad to me. Also, where do you draw the line on what should be considered worthy, what should the price have been before it dropped to zero to be a candidate for listing here, what should be the minimum positive rating, how many reviews should it need? If too much gatekeeping occurs then you risk missing out on some great gaming experiences and the little indie devs may never have a chance to get a leg up.

              • @Gravy: Do we promote all the free or on sale content on itch.io and how frequently should we promote such content? Perhaps we promote every free piece of software on the web?

Seems that the website filled with free content should be promoted, not each individual piece of software on it. Better to say, go to itch.io, select Games, filter for free and play in web browser, sort by top rated to play thousands of free games. I don't think we are going to change each other's mind, but search free content on itch.io, it's over a million items now.

@FabMan: Yep, if it were a flood of such content then I can see your point although websites that track the price movement of apps and alert you when they become free have always been attractive to me.

At present I see it more as a recommendation by an OZB member for a particular piece of software. I'm on OZB every day, whereas itch.io not so often. Two different trains of thought and that's ok.

    • Thanks for the info. I think this post deserves to be here.

It’s $7.5 game on steam now you can get for free. Plus while your comment was valid, it has not shown why this game was bad. The only complain I saw from steam reviews was difficult boss fight

Steam link from OP and your comment are useful for us to determine whethere it is worth it. Votes will do its job

      • It was a $1 game on itch.io prior, the fact it costs more on Steam is irrelevant to the deal here.
