Where to Buy .AU Domains at Good Price?

I used ClickHost that were great for domain names. It was just around $10 per year. They now got bought over by Ventraip. They are essentially $19.95 per year.

Just curious if anyone aware of any other domain provide for .au domains for the low price?

  • Cloudloop ($9.15/yr) or Micron21 ($8.61/yr)

    • Now up

      Cloudloop $11.50/yr
      micron21 $12.96/yr
ventraip ~23-25 (Discount only on first year_)

      • ventraip (Discount only on first year)

with them a few years, didn't realize the price was up every 2years with auto-renewal.
        thinking to change…

        • Do it VIP prices have been quite high for several years with their standard pricing being around $20 going to $23 it appears. Not to mention they've switched to like the competition having terrible promotional offers trying to highlighter discount that's not really there.

      • Yep, they're all up because the wholesale rate increased.

Some more than others, though. You can always keep an eye on the prices and wholesale changes here on the wiki a more detailed comparison is planned to be launched by myself at this stage hopefully late April as part of the accounts leaderboard project

    • +1 for Micro21

  • https://quantumcore.com.au/ - I've had great, personalised service from them

  • I renewed all my clickhost ones for 5 years when they made that announcement :D

  • How do you manage not having Whois domain privacy with .au domains?

    • Fine. I never have any issues and I have .au domains for years. I get the odd spammy email, but that is it.

  • Ventraip are now honoring clickhost prices for a few years I think. Cause I am gold member I renewed all my clickhosts .com.au for about $8 a year.

    • I see. Mine are not up for renewal. So, how does it work? When up for renewal (90 day left to expiry), it will just come up with clickhost renewal price?

      The email did say this:
"We first want to assure you that the price you currently pay for your Clickhost service will not change for the next three years, including any subsequent renewals.:

What about new domain? It seems above is only for renewal. New domain is through standard ventraip pricing unless there is another link

        • Looks like cloudloop is the cheapest for new ones.

      • I see. Mine are not up for renewal. So, how does it work? When up for renewal (90 day left to expiry), it will just come up with clickhost renewal price?

Pretty much this when your next in the 90 day window and provided that VentraIP is still honouring Clickhost pricing you should be given the grandfather pricing plus whatever VIP Rewards discount you're entitled to at that time. I think it's been stated that they plan on grandfathering pricing for three years.

What about new domain? It seems above is only for renewal. New domain is through standard ventraip pricing unless there is another link

Yeah it does not apply to new registrations only renewals via Clickhost registered services are grandfathered in.

      • Did you get a recent email saying Ventraip are increasing prices across the board?

        • Yes, they're doing this both at retail and their wholesale division once the prices have all been released for both platforms, I'll be able to run my calculations to see where they're at.

  • I just saw this note on Micron21 " Valid ABN or ACN required to register domains with Micron21", and trying to checkout with Quantum Core was also requiring an entry for ACN/ABN. Is this a new restriction? VentraIP had some sort of promo so I got the name there for a good price but I'd rather renew with Quantum Core as that's where the rest of my domains are but not related to an ABN/ACN.

    • No. It’s not new. AU domains have required ABN/ACN for a while. The only one was .id.au which doesn’t need it.

      • Strange. VentraIP was satisfied with just a driving licence

        • The person who responded to you is most likely basing it on outdated information as direct .au now exist which citizen/residence are also now eligible for just like .id.au previously, with the introduction of direct .au and tightening of eligibility rules most registrars are now requiring citizen/residence to prove eligibility with ID verification with multiple document types allowed.

.com.au and .net.au do have eligibility requirements and citizen/residence don't qualify directly they need to be at least operating a business using something like a sole trader ABN or meet eligibility through some of the other eligibility requirements.

I'll reply to your initial question now.

Given the domain name is already registered and you're only going to be completing a transfer to a new provider full eligibility checks won't be required but the information will need to match during a transfer.

Micron21 does not allow individuals to have accounts they prefer to stay B2B when selling services.

Quantum Core/GoHosting and many other smaller accredited registrars haven't updated their forms. I know it's quite confusing. Providers really need to update the "Registrant ID Type" drop-down to include a citizen/resident option.

I've provided a screenshot below to help.

if you fill it out like the screenshot, it'll typically transfer with most registrars or they'll reach out if it's a new registration to start the verification process. Essentially with the bottom option labelled "Eligibility Reason" pick which one is best for your domain.
