Herman Miller Aeron Chair

Hey guys im wanting to buy a Herman Miller Aeron chair for home within 30-45 days. Just seeing if anyone would be keen from Adelaide but also Australia for a groupbuy to get the price down. Seems many people wait 6 months plus for sale events that get around the $950-$990 mark for the chair. Ive started a discussion in the Herman Miller thread of Whirlpool Forums http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/838677 and am branching out as we would need at least 10 people to have any chance of negotiating a decent drop.

Reason im posting here is to possibly get some large numbers combine with whirlpool and do a large batch order in one go to get a substantial drop in price.

So i ask of you good people if you are serious (need to be otherwise you could screw up a pre negotiate price on a set quantity) to express interest here if you are keen and wanting to get a chair pretty soon. I need some pretty accurate numbers so i can strongly negotiate. Also i need people to be honest and reliable on their willingness to partake as im not really wanting on taking people deposits etc.

The way i see it we get X amount of people, i negotiate a large order stating X amount of chairs will be sold, then i tell everyone to transfer funds to who ever the company is (most probably Innerspace in Adelaide) on a determined day, the following day i visit them in person to see they have received funds and our order is placed.

What do you guys think? Please try to keep conversation to short sentences or dot point as i really wont have time to read hundreds of long posts. Im going to go ahead with my purchase either way by the mid of Jan (thinking XMAS or Early Jan special) so at maybe a $200 or there about saving i dont want to spend 100's of hrs reading posts.

Please specify interest and what state your order would be for. If we end up doing interstate orders ill see if other Innerspace stores in the participants area can deliver a car locally to reduce shipping. Worst case is i have a freight account with Northline for door delivery at very decent rates. So i could help people get it to them as cheap as possible. If i had dimensions for the carton or whatever the chair comes packaged in i would give reasonably accurate quotes. If anyone has bought a Aeron and can provide semi accurate dimensions on the carton that would be help otherwise ill ask Innerspace once we hit some interest.

  • Also i already have one guy as of this morning keen from TAS. Probably be quite expensive to freight to TAS but if we get enough people and they are located some what centrally to each other i could send them as one big item and freight should be a lot more reasonable. I would assume these people would meet at a give time to collect their chair (or from the depot) and i imagine the chair wouldnt need a trailer and would fit in the back seats or the boot.

  • As far as I'm aware (with my bum in one), these can't be user assembled. They sell it to you as a complete chair. I'd also imagine they can't sell them flat packed and allow the user to assemble it as that would cause issues with the 12 year warranty (bodged DIYs etc).

    • Just found this on amazon so ill have to ask as it might be assembled or flat backed like this guy:

Additional points including using the warranty:

      A. Assembly. This is easy, especially if you avoid getting the PostureFit. The only tool used is the included hex key (Allen key). Assembly will probably take 10 to 15 minutes, with most of that unwrapping the parts. Assembly for PostureFit may take 25 minutes because you have to place a wire mechanism and actually poke a hole through the mesh. But if you believe me, you'll probably get the highly adjustable with lumbar support model and have zero trouble in assembly. If you get the chair with lumbar support, you will ONLY have to attach the back of the chair to the rest of it by screwing 4 bolts with the included hex key.

  • Hmmm that might posse a bit of a problem for interstate people. Will see how interest goes and before InnerSpace goes on holidays ill ask about this issue and if they can come boxed in some sort of way. Otherwise if they cant come boxed ill have to leave the deal as Adelaide only as i could get custom boxes made for about $20 each but i cant be arsed unless there is significant interest interstate to warrant the extra work.

  • +1

Any idea of the discount we are likely to see?

  • Too expensive just for one chair $1000 :O
