Best way to travel to and from the melbourne airport?

Just wondering what is the best way to travel to and from the airport (from the Monash uni area).

shuttle bus ( note not 903 ) costs around 70 for a couple (one way)
taxi costs around 140 ( one way ).

Is long term parking the best option. (note i am away for around 30 days ).

Is there any cheaper alternative that i am missing out ?

Please suggest any cheap and good airport parking places you know of.

Unfortunately public transport is not an option :(

  • if you dont have alot of luggage or dont mind carrying it in train.. then y not take the public transport till the nearest suburb to airport & then take a taxi from there.. should be less..

Option2: come to CBD area and take the Skybus shuttle service which is around $32 return ticket per person…so for 2 aduts $64 to & from airport..

Not sure whether it applies to your situation, but @neil wrote a piece on getting to Melbourne airport on our blog a few months ago:

    • thanks for the link. will check it out

  • Cheapest
Cab to your nearest train station. Then train to SoutherCross station for connecting Skybus to airport.

    Quickest
    Cab straight to the airport.

For 2 people, cab could probably works out to be a few dollars more and much less of a hassle.

    • Some of the airport parking is quite good value, depending on how many people are travelling and for how long. We have used Jetport, discount for RACV members and are going to use ACE as it had a shopper docket discount making it cheaper than Jetport. One just drives the car there, leaves the keys and they park it undercover, if you want and take you to the airport terminals in their mini buses. On return give them a call and you are picked up in 10 mins and another 10 mins, back to your car. Really easy and no waiting for a bus timetable. Good luck.

  • Got a limo last time from Melb CBD to airport, pre-booked and all total cost was $60 (not incl. tip). I'm pretty sure I usually pay between $58 and $65 for a cab.

Chrysler 300c rocked up, very professional and well presented driver.

Not sure how much more it'd be from monash, but maybe something to consider?

Gas tank in the trunk of the limo but, so if you have a lot of luggage, might need to consider an alternative.

Or if money is really a restriction, as mentioned above, public transport to southern cross and skybus from there.
