Why are Bucky Balls a banned item?

I saw a greyed out deal for Bucky Balls and is says 'banned item' beside it. Why is this? I was going to buy this sort of thing as a xmas present and have been looking for a deal. Thanks

  • I assume it falls under high powered magent?

  • Yes, it is a high powered magnet thus banned (mostly) in Australia. It seems that they are being banned in the US as well.

  • so dumb. I believe it's because some idiots decided swallowing them was a fun thing to do. Then the balls started getting attracted to eachother in the stomach and began ripping intestines apart.

Lucky I got mine a few months ago! I think you might still be able to buy them in some hobby stores though.

edit: a quick google shows some toddlers have eaten them. I should therefore relinquish my 'idiots' phrase and put 'irresponsible parents'

  • Not just is it because they're a high-powered magnet, but can you imagine the damage such a magnet could do if ingested and then it comes into contact with another highly powered magnet be it outside or somewhere else inside your digestive tract? Mess your guts up real bad - instant emergency surgery required.

Small risk, high impact. They're just not safe to have around really if they small enough to be easily eaten.

  • Ahhh yep I see the danger now. Probably best I dont get them as gift. I will stick to high powered LED torches instead. Thanks

  • I'm curious if you can still buy earth magnets on their own?
