Family photo session for portrait? Reasonably priced in Sydney?

Looking to have a family photo done with a professional studio. My wife found one with 'special deal' to get you in the door…free photo …and then upsell other photos (cost in the thousands!).

Could there be any recommended deals on Sydney's North Shore?

Thank you in advance!

    Currently doing great discounts and no hard sell on the prints - "all images edited & provided on personalised CD for you to keep and print as you wish."

    • Have you used these? A relative has been stung in the past by buying on CD to have the CD copies very poor quality. Also, although many say you can use as you wish, they make you sign away copyright, so technically you are not allowed to do so (even if you pay extra for that CD, doesn't give you the rights to do anything with it).

      • If I am not mistaken, the copyright is always with the photographers who took the photo to begin with. So "technically", an agreement should come with the CD that explicitly expresses copyright transfer or unrestricted right of use or something like that. But as long as you have the CD with high resolution images, does anyone actually care about it?

          'If the issue is not covered by an agreement, then copyright is usually owned by the photographer unless the photograph was taken in return for a fee or other "valuable consideration".'

          The agreement they make you sign is what reverses this. Sure, it is unlikely to become an issue, but say you post it on facebook they have the right to press charges for copyright violation. In theory they can do this for any distribution and/or printing of the images.

          If you care about film/music/game piracy, you should care about this also.

        • • For photos taken on or after 30 July 1998, the general rule on ownership depends on the purpose for which the photographs were taken:
          • if the photos were taken for “private or domestic purposes” (such as family portraits, or wedding photos), the first owner of copyright in them is the client, unless the photographer and client agree otherwise;

          So it really depends on the contract you sign with the photographer
