Raz given that this maybe a orphan here in oz, is it worth the "saving" (its cost is around $A150) - there is no way to check the build or video quality. let alone get service. on strategy would be to wait until the post xmas sales you might get a name brand fora good price instead.

  • Valid comment. I shall wait for the post xmas sales. Had a look at the Canon FS100…. fingers crossed hopefully will drop in price.

Many Chinese-made cheap video cameras have good looking spec on paper but have crappy lens, slow processor and almost-useless sensors. The spec for SY-385 on DealExtreme is not very clear, but if you search for that model on Google, you'll see that it is only capable of doing 15fps on VGA, or 30fps on QVGA. Even the digital camera at that price range bought here in Australia can do better than that (and on much better lens as well).

    Give this a pass.

  • Scotty, appreciate the your advice and time and detail you put into it. Will look around for something better. Thanks again.

    • No problem. I guess I had made the same mistake before — bought a so-called 12M pixel camera that can do 30fps VGA 2 years ago. However the video quality is so bad under almost-all light conditions, it's pretty useless. It's not even heavy enough to be a paper weight :(
