Everyone’s favorite purple dragon is bringing the heat (actual fire breathing dragon) tomorrow with the November 12 release of the Spyro Reignited Trilogy on Game Pass!

Remade from the ground up, the Spyro Reignited Trilogy features all three of the original games that started it all – Spyro the Dragon, Spyro 2: Ripto’s Rage, and Spyro: Year of the Dragon, amazing for the original fans and new players alike.

Spyro the Dragon

Our new favorite little purple dragon starts on a quest to rescue his dragon friends who have been turned into crystal by the villain Gnasty Gnorc (what an unfortunate and yet apt name!). Spyro explores vibrant Dragon Realms, collects gems, and flambés his enemies, all while learning to how breathe fire and glide.

Spyro 2: Ripto’s Rage!

Spyro finds himself in the magical land of Avalar where he is trying to save the realm from the evil sorcerer Ripto and his minions. Along the way, he befriends new entirely new allies, overcomes challenges, complete tasks, and unlocks even more powers to take down Ripto and restore peace.

Spyro: Year of the Dragon

In Spyro: Year of the Dragon, Spyro finds out that the Dragon Eggs have been stolen by the devious Sorceress, sending him on a new mission to recover the eggs and save the dragon population. Our favorite purple dragon meets new friends, learns new abilities, all while exploring more vibrant realms with challenges (and treasures!).

Xbox players have been able to explore the Dragon Realms with Spyro since 2018 with the release of the Reignited Trilogy, and now we’re excited to invite our community to jump into these incredible adventures once again and relive the fun and nostalgia that only Spyro can bring.

Available on Game Pass Standard, Game Pass Ultimate, and PC Game Pass, for cloud, console and PC, it’s sure to ignite some serious fun. Let’s go save the Dragon Realms!

    Still 30fps?

    • +1

Yep, on all consoles it's still locked to 30fps.

As an Activision game and a MS mascot, this should stay in Gamepass forever right?

    • +3

Probably. May not be available on all game pass tiers, but I am confident it would remain on gamepass.

      Huh? Spyro a Microsoft mascot??
The original Spyro trilogy were Sony PlayStation 1 exclusives, made by Insomniac Games, who are now part of PlayStation Studios.

Crash now Spyro. 2 PS1 era powerhouses

    • i find it cool that the gameplay of spyro 1/2/3 was pretty much that good

i didnt notice too much changed gameplay wise compared to the ps1 orginals

Crash was made by Naughty Dog, no less! The jewel in Sony's first party studio crown!

That said, the fact that Crash is now owned by MS is probably the only thing stopping Naughty Dog from going back and remaking / remastering it, which seems to be all that they do these days in lieu of actually creating anything new :P

does it still have the motion sickness problem? when it was released a few years back i couldn't play without throwing up

    • You got some other problems that need to be addressed if you physically threw up whilst playing Spyro. See a doctor.

      • Nah, it's not uncommon with some 3D games. I had the same issue with Sleeping Dogs, just gave me motion sickness whenever I tried to play it. Apparently increasing FOV can help, if the game offers that setting.

        • Do you wear glasses? I’ve heard that can be a factor but can’t imagine folks are throwing up on their chest letting it drip down their arms and seep into their controller after turning Spyro around.

          • @EitherWayUp: Well no, when I feel a game affecting me that way, I tend to stop at the first sign of nausea rather than push through until I throw up :P

But it's motion sickness, so if somebody has that reaction to a game and keeps going, they'll eventually throw up just like somebody suffering from motion sickness in a car will.

I don't wear glasses (except sometimes for reading now that I'm getting old) but I've had the motion sickness issue with first person games since Wolfenstein. I get it a lot less often these days, I think better framerates, resolutions and FOV in modern games all help.

            • @AngusD: Fair enough. Hopefully the improvements to modern games as you’ve suggested help.

From memory the original 3rd game on PS1 had an option to change the camera style to minimise the effect of motion sickness. Its an option in the first home world when you talk to Sparx but you can change it in settings. Correct me if I am wrong

  • Still has on of the best scores for a game! Stewart Copeland outdid himself for the original

  • Turn off motion blur seems to improve the 30fps issue
