iPad Mini No Stock Anywhere!

So I've spent my whole day searching for an iPad mini for my daughter. Big w completely out of stock along with Harvey Norman, dick smith, apple stores bondi, Sydney city, broadway. None of these shops believe they will have stock before Xmas. Does anyone know where I can buy the 16g for my 9yr old??? Otherwise their will be 1 disappointed little girl Xmas morning :(

No pixels were hurt during the showing of that video. The video lacked any :-)

  • Yeh bedt bet is ebay if you are desperate

  • Gumtree.com.au mate. Good luck

  • +1

Myer, target and jb hifi can be added to tht list in Sydney. Chongy288 thanks merry Xmas to u as well, I'm trying to see the funny side :)

  • Try Next byte. Locations across Australia.

  • Thanks they seem to have stock online but a 2 wk delivery so that's after Xmas. So hopefully they have stock in store ill call them bright an early!

Just looked at Apple Store. A lot of items (non-engraved) have a deadline of 18/12 for ordering in order for delivery to take place before 25/12: http://store.apple.com/au/browse/campaigns/holiday/shipping. HOWEVER, for the iPad Mini it states "Check your cart for expected delivery dates."

I did, and it says "ships 2 weeks".

    eBay
Someone is selling a brand new iPad Mini 16GB (WiFi only). With a day to go, bidding has reached $405 (plus $20 shipping). This thing retails for $369 with free shipping from Apple. Guess Santa is getting desperate.

  • Try jb hifi. They can match bigw's price. I tried that before.

  • +2

What do you mean? isn't santa getting the presents?

  • Check out the nexus 7 too; i went to buy an ipad mini but chose the nexus 7 - the screen is much better quality (a lot sharper), and is a fair bit cheaper. I have an ipad 3 already and the app selection compared to android is very similar.

    • +3

Apple's iPads and iPhones are very popular among younger consumers according to research done in US. I don't think his/her kid will be excited about seeing a Nexus because there is no wow factor in it.

      • Variety is the spice of life my friend ;)

        • +2

          yea, so buy both :D

  • Jb hi is completely sold out. I'll have a look at the nexus I don't know anything about the androids.

    • Thats a shame, what about the ipad 2 as an alternative? Price is a bit higher though. Nexus are quite nice, they have a higher learning curve but you can do certain things the ipad cant (ie drag and drop movies and music directly from your PC without converting them), the other bonus is they charge off standard $2 phone cables.

      • +2

Just be careful, if she wants an ipad, she maybe disappointed with an alternative. Might be wise to suss this out. Disappointed if not for Christmas will be less than being Disappointed with the wrong product. One is easier to get over.

  • Try jb HIFI Miranda. I know that a few days ago they had a bunch of 16g minis that were demo models. Exactly the same as a non-demo, never been used except to update the software. Bit of a discount on them too. Dunno how many they have now though. You could give the store a call.

  • Next byte sold out, jb hi fi sold out sydney wide.

  • +1

I got mine from the Online apple store.. Due to arrive the 18th.. Hopefully

    http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/86899

Ordered back on the 6th, thats less than 2 weeks

  • That's 12days though, even if I ordered now it would still arrive after chrissy! There must be some out there somewhere???

  • +1

Try Compnow (crows nest), but you'll have to wait till Monday (not open on weekends).

  • Plenty at Apple Store Chadston Melbourne open till 9pm today

  • Really!!! I don't no any1 that lives there that could post it to me! I phoned them but it says they're closed.

    • Wifi version only 64gbs left,
wifi+4G : in stock all version
You can call in on Sunday

  • +3

You may find it difficult to source, lots of people getting mini ipads rather than maxi ipads - which is not something apple are happy about.

I'd be inclined to put the term into wwww.staticice.com.au and go through the shops that result looking for stock.

    • +4

Glad u added the "i" after maxi.

      • Please scrap that negative vote! I'm on my iPhone and my fat fingers missed the positive:-( Love it!!!!

        • +2

          done

  • I've got a 64GB iPad Mini, Wi-Fi only, for sale. It's Black and comes with a Grey Smart Cover. Both are Brand New and unopened. I paid $610 for the pair from JB HI-FI. Will come with the receipt too. I am selling at cost plus $20 for Registered Postage Australia Wide. It is listed elsewhere so first in gets it. I accept PayPal and Bank deposit, however I would recommend PayPal so I can send it first thing on Monday morning. Will not separate. $630 includes postage.

  • Thanks anyway teamhickey but that's wat to much for a 9yr old. I'm after the $369 16gb wifi ipad mini

  • And so was I!!! I have tried everywhere to get one and this was all I could find. We've now gone with an iPhone instead for Xmas.

  • +6

iPad mini for 9yr old is way too much at this age. Get her doll or not tech stuff would b better.

I did search everywhere in sydney and near by suburb, none of them has stock 16gb black and white. Then I ordered from apple online store and it would ship to my door on this saturday. Less than 2 weeks you should give a try.

  • cminez she has every type of doll! Lol we travel a lot so it will come in handy. I'll give it a try thanks for looking for me!!

  • Gotta keep trying everyday. I tried apple store in the morning everyday before work. But I work in city then JB, dicksmith. I got lucky and tried target at lunch time of all days and got a 16GB. This is in Perth though

  • -1

Personally I can't see why there is so much demand for this lacklustre product. The screen resolution is poor when compared to cheaper alternatives

    • Reasons: 1. mini is the CHEAPEST apple tablet computer and some first time buyers want to give it a try but don't want to fork out another 1-200 bucks for the larger ipads. 2. Its form factors are attractive to some buyers who like to carry around a lot 3. It's a beautiful piece of hardware and fully integrated ecosystem which makes it a perfect xmas gift that not only looks good but gives the excitement when the person opens up the gift. Lastly, why would people want to give out copy cat products to ppl only want iPads?

      • +3

        fully integrated ecosystem

What does that even mean!? Sounds like typically Apple salesperson fluff.

      • LOL you are an idiot!

  • +1

Try Gumtree. A few people selling 'unwanted gifts'.

  • +1

Put my 2 months old iPad mini on eBay Bidding got sold for $450.

  • If it's not too far, the Hornsby Apple store is normally dead. Call up first though, to check for stock.

    • +1

Or, if you can't find anything, get the, Nexus 7, which is made by Google and Asus, and runs Android.

  • For a DAUGHTER?!?! Save over 50% and get the Nexus 7.

  • People stick to the topic, its where can the OP find a ipad mini.

If you want to push your own particular technology barrow, open a thread for it.

Given the OP is looking and probably tracking this thread you are wasting their time and being very unhelpful. You know its ok someone wants to buy something you dont like. Not everyone wants the same things in life.

  • Hornsby apple store seem to have a few in stock

  • Aceboy884 they r closed I'm going to call them 1st in the morning. Fingers crossed! And thanks ppl but in after a brand new 1 since its a gift

  • +2

for all those in victoria i went to beyond the box in moonee ponds and they had stock just a few days ago in both colours

    • Cheers mate, just picked one up from there this arvo for $369.

  • Does anyone know where I can buy a 16gb black or white ipad mini in Canberra?

  • So happy I picked mine up early… =/ I figured stock would have eased up by now. They are pretty much sold out everywhere in WA, with a possible 2-3 week backorder.

  • Compnow and Hornsby apple both sold out!

  • Have you tried Vision tech in Gosford or Fairfield ?

  • They have none either :(

  • -1

I have done my legwork on this having been in your shoes 3 weeks back.
    Things to remember
    1. Bigw being the cheaper apple retailer is always running dry on stock unless you hit he store during first few days of release and take advantage of iPad buyer's ignorance
    2. If you settle on buying a new release from Apple, this is best done online. Lead time range from 1-3 weeks

Also, if you think she can't wait, stick her with a nexus. No way you can get one before second week of January.
Also, serves apple right for making their products so scarce. Like Google's Schmidt put it, Apple is going to play second fiddle to Android just like it did when windows took over the PC space.

    Note: I am a bitter apple fan who owns (or owned) ipad2, ipad3, iphone3g, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4 , iPhone 4S, iPhone 5. iPad mini…

    • that's what Eric said.

  • DWI has it for $435 delivered: http://www.dwidigitalcameras.com.au/astore/Apple-iPad-Mini-1…, and lists 1-2 business days delivery.

    • +1

Just called them and no, none in stock, they are taking orders online and even though it says online it's a 1-2 day delivery it's not really, more like 10 days. I mentioned that they should change their website status.

    • Please DO NOT rely on DWI for something where time is so critical. They state a delivery time, but a phone I ordered for hubby for Christmas last year, 3 weeks later I was still trying to have it sent. When they did eventually send it, they'd sent the wrong (inferior) phone, which I had to return at my own expense to get a promised refund that I then had to push for weeks to eventuate.

  • I think Target at Burwood Sydney had some on the weekend. They also had a 1-day sale of 5% off all ipads and ipods on Saturday. Sorry that you've missed out on that!

    • The sale was just on iPads, not minis :)

  • No target have no minis state wide I rang them the other day! I think I'm going to have to give up there doesn't seen like a chance in hell of getting 1

  • TQS they r all sold out, same with all the stores listed on static ice

  • +1

Because that's the only thing she asked for not that I need to explain myself to u ethereal88!

  • I know Dick Smith Bankstown Square just got a batch in this morning

    • They have no 16gb minis only 64gb

  • For those in Melbourne I was at chadstone apple store they had heaps in all sizes available!

    • Ezra I just phoned them they said they have sold out also

  • Hello,

ironically my name also starts with Mel and i8 am looking for the ipad mini for xmas. I work in a phone related industry and have a customer that claimed he could get the ipad mini for me from his work so i am waiting for him to get back to me on that and if he does i will try and ask him if he is able to get more. I also had another customer that informed me that there was stock in David Jones ? did you try there? Good luck

    • Lildevil872 thanks that would be great! Yes I tried David jones already in the city and bondi junction they checked online and said it was sold out everywhere that was Friday. Good luck with ur search :)

  • +1

I had no problems getting 2 ipad mini's for my kids for christmas though I did the smart thing and pre ordered befor they were released.

Hate to say it but your chances are pretty slim so close to christmas.

  • I know it's a bit of off topic but Ipad 2 are almost exactly the same as the iPad mini except the size. And it's only $30-40 more than the Ipad mini with plenty of stocks around.

    • +1

Cameras are better, video recording is better, wireless is better AND it's got SIRI - so, not quite the same.

      • +2

Seriously… SIRI? Absolute useless piece of garbage. I have a 4S and Siri is incredibly frustrating to use. I've only managed to get it to do one thing right consistently (i.e. call my gf using my handfree). Coupled with my vodafone connection, its quicker to just do stuff manually than wait for Siri.

  • Have you tried the mac1 franchises? I'm not sure of their Sydney locations though.

  • +1

P.s LOVE my mini, coming from 1st gen

    • They r sold out as well.

  • +2

try and call myer city late wed or early to mid thurs as that is when apple stock tends to comes in and ask to speak to the young chap on level 7 that works for apple. if there is no stock in he can probably figure out for you if anyone else has stock.

  • OP, you may want to also track it in the whirlpool forum.

    http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/2007479

    Cheers

    • +1

Thanks fchis, looks like no1 is having any luck either!

  • Contacted them, it's a 1-2wk wait :(

  • Beyond the box in Moonee Ponds - Melbourne has stock, was just in there today, give them a call 9372-8899

  • Given the short time and the high demand for these, I might suggest if you find a store with stock that you PM Mel with some details. Posting here first may see others get in there first.

I am sure Mel will update us soon as they get a unit.

BTW Mel an alternative is to take advantage of the myer gift card sale and order one through there with a 10% saving your daughter can have some itunes gift cards as "compensation" for the wait.

BTW if you have itunes installed you can be downloading the free games that you see here on ozbargain in preparation.

  • Drop by a myer and chat the sales guy up, they can look it up on the system. We do it all the time

  • Picked up the last iPad mini, 16gb WiFi in Black from BigW in Newcastle earlier this morning. There are still some out there - I recommend using the online store to check stock of retail stores before going in…
BigW in Rockdale, Macquarie and Bankstown are all showing Low Stock - might be worth giving them a call to see if they can put one aside for you…

    • SeoN which Newcastle store I called the 3 and tey said no stock. Yeh I've done all the online thing some say low stock but have none wen u call. I even phoned big w head office and had them look and call around for me. Myer have none and no idea wen they will receive them

      • It was at Newcastle West. Unsure if they had any white, but I know that I got the last black.

  • Try giving these guys a call http://www.mac1.com.au/contact/

  • Chatswood's Target has heaps of ipad mini's in stock and on display.

WHAT ARE YOU GUYS EVEN TALKING ABOUT!!!!!!!!!!!

    • They have no wifi in stock only cellular which are double the price! Mac1 have none either

  • Can't be double the price! U sure?

  • Canberra Apple store received plenty in stock yesterday. Call them & try your luck. otherwise nothing u can do except fly USA & get it for your 9 yr old.

    • I did call them, sales lady suggested I ring today mid morning but was too busy at work and forgot. Annoyed she wouldn't put one aside for me. Just to add to that, just rang them now and Kerrie (salesperson)said there were none in stock and they didn't get any yesterday, so where did you get your information from?

      • My teamleader picked up 2 (16GB wifi & 32GB wifi) yesterday.

  • Beyond the Box have sold out too Im after one for Hubby.

  • +2

I got a 16gb Wi-Fi black Mini for sale in Brisbane.
