Apple India ID required. Buy gift cards from Amazon India

  1. Set up an Indian Apple ID using your AU mobile number to verify.

  2. Login into an iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, using an Indian Apple ID by going to settings > Your name > Media and purchases.

  3. Buy Apple gift cards from Amazon India using your AU amazon account. Enter an Indian address (make sure indian address is selected) and use an international fee free card. Then load gift cards to your Apple ID.

  4. Open up Youtube app - head to account (right bottom corner) > settings (right top corner gear icon) > purchases and memberships

  5. Choose a plan of your liking

Set up google family before signing up to family account https://families.google/families/

      I had the same issue. Managed to get through by signing in through the Apple music page, then putting a 0 before my number (e.g. +61 0400 000 000). It would not let me make an account if I used the same number that I have used previously with my existing AU Apple account. (e.g. +61 400 000 000).

    Is there a way to do this from Australia if you have an indian debit card? I tried a few VPNs and couldn't get INR to show up in the subscription page… Has anyone had better luck?

      You will have to set up an Indian payment profile on Google Payments page. Remove Australian payment profile.

              Funny now when trying to download YT app - it’s accepts but doesn’t download it. It downloads other apps though. Wonder if it’s restriction based on IP?

      There is no issue in using the same number. What error are you getting?

      If you change your region on Apple ID, your App store will also change to Indian region and there are some Australian apps that are not available there. Moreover, you would not be able to revert back to Australia with an active subscription.

    I'm having issues with making the email, it keeps saying "Email Error: Cannot Verify Email Address" even if add a pre-existing one or a brand new email. Should it be icloud specific or any gmail account works?

      You won't be sharing purchases with any one from your Indian Apple ID. Youtube premium will be shared via Google families.

      Also, if the new account is an Indian one, it can't join a local family in Aus ??

      It can join the family sharing but it cannot share anything to Australian accounts other than iCloud membership. Also there is no need to add it to Australian family sharing, unless you plan on getting iCloud plus from there.

            @YoursTruly: It's an application patcher… ie it modifies parts of an application to enable/disable/change functionality. Like the part of the app that says "let's show an annoying ad right now" could be patched to say "let's not do that", or where the app checks for "are you a premium user, or a scummy not paying one, so i can play when minimised?" could be bypassed
            Obviously there needs to be a patch available for whatever app you are intending to modify. Youtube and YTMusic are usually the popular ones.

    thanks. it worked eventually. for some reason I am getting password incorrect/error when signing in amazon india with my au account. I tried removing 2 factor auth but still no luck. In the end reset password worked.

      No, as long you still got credit it will auto renew. You can safely use your regular Australian Apple ID for Media and Purchases.

    Current Argentina based subscription due to expire mid Dec. Doing this method will renew the period so a couple of weeks wasted for those who currently have an active subscription.

    Also, Apple India is giving 2 months Apple TV for free when you redeem a code in App Store.

    At this point I think the better idea is to share an Australian subscription rather than deal with the drama just to save $2.50 per month.
    That being said, I hope it works well and you don’t have any drama, it’s been great for the last few years for me.

    Having issues redeeming the Apple Indian Gift Card purchased via Amazon India.

    iPhone - Apple ID logged in under my master Australian account. Then logged into "Media and Purchases" using the new Apple India Account.

    Trying to redeem the Gift Card but get this error: "This code must be redeemed in the indian storefront".

    What am I doing wrong?

      Not sure, I would just ask to re-check that you are actually redeeming it under Indian Apple ID. Confirm by going into youtube app and seeing if prices come up in Indian currency.

      Otherwise use your laptop to redeem in Apple TV or Apple music app.

    After Google cracked down on similar deals in the past, I decided that I had enough of playing a cat and mouse game with them.

    Now I don’t give them any money at all:
    1. Use Ad Blocker on Win/Mac/iOS
    2. Use Brave Browser on iOS of background audio (claimed to be YT “premium feature”)
    3. Use YouTube Next on cheap $40 FireTV 4k stick to skip ads on my TV.

    Did the steps, never get to the point where asking for india address, instead i manually loged in to the apple id and provide the address.
    Surprisingly when i used indian vpn and logged in to the YouTube app through my android device it showed the AU price!
    So workaround is below:
    My partner has an iphone, signed out of both YT and apple acc.
    1.Connect to india vpn
    2. Signed in to my indian apple account.
    3. Singed in to YouTube, make sure you have singed out from any YouTube acc.
    4. Subscribe for family.
    5. It automatically pay with apple acc where you have already redeemed your gift card.
    6.make sure you have sufficient balance for next billing cycle.

    Thanks OP for this - seems to have worked. My subscription for YouTube premium still shows as the old payment method (PKR). Does it just automatically switch over to the INR gift card balance?

    Also, if I stay logged in to 'Media and Purchases' using the account with the Indian apple ID, can I use those funds to also pay for other things (e.g. games, other app subscriptions)? Or does it just work for youtube premium?

      You're adding a gift card balance to your Indian Apple ID.
      When you log in via Indian Apple ID on your device and subscribe to Youtube Premium, the amount is in Rupees.
      When you subscribe, your google account draws on the India Apple ID balance.
      If sharing with family, your family account is connected via Google Families.

          I don't see that being an issue. I'm signed into my burner account (post below) on Chrome and I can manage my subscription via browser.
          Just make sure your Apple ID on your Mac is signed in with the Indian Apple ID.

            But I actually am in a family with Google One which I'm paying via normal AU cards.

            Is required (as per your post below) to use a burner account?

            Is it not safe to do the Apple ID (Indian account) and then log in to my 'real' YouTube on the Macbook?

    If you want to keep your accounts separate, I made a burner Google account to hold the Youtube subscription & Google Family Owner.

    Copying the above + my additional steps.

    1. Setup a burner google account & setup google family, with the burner account being the owner.
    2. Set up an Indian Apple ID(account.apple.com) using your AU mobile number to verify + burner google account as the email.
    3. Find an Indian address from BestRandoms. Phone numbers start with +91
    4. Open amazon.in, use AU amazon account to purchase apple gift cards.
    5. Enter Indian address in Amazon.
    6. Using Wise, Transfer AUD to Rupees via & make equivalent purchase.
    7. Login into an iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, using an Indian Apple ID by going to settings > Your name > Media and purchases
    8. Redeem your Apple Gift Card manually by entering the Gift Card ID
    9. Open Youtube (signed in with burner).
    10. Make Subscription Purchase for YT Family
    11. Invite family members via Google Family

      If you don't do this, then it will just attempt to deduct funds from your other currencies, presumably with AUD as the priority. I believe they use Mastercard rates without a mark up (i.e. like 28 Degrees, Macquarie Debit etc.)

      I believe the step to add family members should be done first.
      Set up the family structure using the burner account first before you being the process - as all members need to be part of the same country profile to join. But once joined the family owner can change profile to India without issues.

        If you like you can create a home page icon in the Shortcut app to launch "Video Lite" and auto direct to Youtube.
        Press the + in the Shortcut app, click on the search bar, search "Open URLs", click on it, write videolite://m.youtube.com, go back to the shortcut app's home page, press the three dots on the shortcut you just created, press the share button (bottom right), "Add to home screen" and you're golden
