[StartHere] Very Cheap (below $50 for me) Third Party Car Insurance

Moved to Forum: Original Link

This is only a possible deal - subject to confirmation by StartHere.com.au.

I get $83.33 (as a founder member of StartHere.com.au) for buying insurance from 1300Insurance via StartHere. If you're not a founder member the normal cashback varies from $41.67 to $62.50.

It doesn't say on the Starthere site/link that it only applies to comprehensive insurance so I'm taking a punt on them paying it out on a $115 Third Party insurance policy.

So the deal - Third Party insurance is $115 (for me). So could end up costing $31.67.

You also get a Club Lifestyle membership card which (among other discounts) gives you 5% off groceries and petrol gift cards.

BTW - You can get that kind of deal lots of ways - RACT/NRMA etc seem to all do it. KareKard.com.au is one I've done in the past. Could save you quite a few $100 in a year.

Bit later - StartHere's response to my query about it:

'There is no mention of policy type in the conditions.

Give it a try I guess if you’re going to buy from them anyway.'

So you wouldn't count on it being paid, but if it does it's a great bonus.

If it's only a 'possible deal' then why not post it in the forums?

Well, I only look at the deals part of this site. Never bothered with the forums.

You get what you pay for with these insurance company's
Does anyone know what they are like to deal with?

    • My quote was $101 (or $104) from AAMI

Cheapest insurance sometimes becomes the most expensive insurance (when they do not pay).

    • -7

True, but this is NOT the cheapest.

      • Then why is this a deal?

        • Because once you apply the StartHere cashback (and the benefit of the Club Lifestyle card) it does become very cheap - IF the cashback is paid on this policy (I've asked StartHere to clarify).

If this is not the cheapest then who is?

      • I'm sorry why does this rate a negative vote? I didn't claim the insurance WITHOUT the cashback is the cheapest, but IF the cashback is honoured it is my a mile.

tg is implying this is rubbish insurance because it's cheap - BUT - it isn't cheap - so isn't necessarily rubbish insurance.

this is confusing and doesnt sound right.

Let's wait and see what StartHere say - if they confirm the cashback, it's a great deal. If no cashback, it's still ok due to the card (if you don't have a way to get gift cards some other way).

    StartHere's response to my query:

'There is no mention of policy type in the conditions.

Give it a try I guess if you’re going to buy from them anyway.'

Not exactly a firm response, but I got it anyway so I'll see.

    • Keep us posted, my renewal is up in a couple of months.

  • What a scam - first I get the 'Transaction record added' email saying the $83.33 will be paid in March. Then in March it's suddenly cancelled. I query it and lo and behold, they don't have a record of it! Surprise, surprise. How can they not have a record of it if they sent me a sodding email about it? Even if the don't have the record now they should still pay it as I have the email they sent.

The other trick they use is to put a 10 week time limit on records that can be queried, but the pay time is after that! So by the time you don't get paid, records can't be queried! That is a total racket.

    From Starthere:
'I have followed up with the network and the team at StartHere and unfortunately there is nothing I can do to resolve this cancelled transaction.

Occasionally from time to time, stores make mistakes. Even though it sounds like you did everything right, the transaction has not been recorded properly and so is not eligible for cashback.

I understand that this is frustrating but please know that I have done everything I can to try and retrieve your cashback from the store and this time have not been able too.'

    • Sorry to hear you got douched.

I am impressed you got a response from StartHere, they haven't been answering my communications… How did you contact them?

      • First used the transaction enquiry form on the site then a few emails direct.
