Luckily haven’t bought from Kogan eBay…

The Chef has cooked up some specials for us.

Careful! You might get in trouble saying that!!

    • +2

“I asked the Chef to cook us some deals”

      How about that?

  • +2

Not mobileciti again? Surely they’re still reeling from the monumental screw up with the BFMOTO deal that they were part of?

    • +2

We shouldn't blame the store for the screw-up, as it seems eBay's system allowed more people to order than the actual quantity available, which is a screw-up on eBay's part. The OzBargain community should be happy the Moto oversold by a huge margin because the actual quantity allocated for the deal by eBay was way less than the numbers sold.

The neggers have already arrived 😂

        • +1

As I like to call them the dirty neggers. It's a good thought knowing that they'll be raging about this just before they fall asleep.

          • @Clear: Apparently I've been living under a rock.. So MobileCiti, Sydney Mobiles, Techciti and Allphones are the same seller?

  • These or the DJI Osmo Pocket 3? Just for something to video tape during family holidays when not running after the 3 kids

    • The pocket 3 is amazing…

    • +5

Pros for the Insta360 is you barely have to even think about how you position the camera and where you point it at, just turn it on and have it in the general vicinity and you'll get the results you want. The simplicity of barely needing to think of how I'm capturing this keeps me in the moment, instead of focusing on the screen of the camera.

The negative trade-off is that you have to take time to edit a clip if you want to post anything at all (cos no one is gonna watch a natively 360 video, assuming the website even accepts it). So you save time and mental capacity when you film the clip, but spend it all in the post-process.

It is a lot bigger and bulkier than the Osmo Pocket 3, and a lot more conspicuous. But get the Invisible Selfie stick and you'll get videos from a perspective nothing else on the market can do unless you want a drone flying two feet from your face.

      • Genuine question, what is the advantage of these over videoing with your phone

        • +2

Primarily it would be: Better quality video, far superior Image Stabilisation, and specifically for the Insta360 it would be adjustable field of view, and the ease of filming in the moment as mentioned before.

      • do you need to have instagram for it? i'm old and dont use all those platforms

        • +1

Just post to wherever you want, or not at all and just keep it for your own record keeping. Nothing wrong with that.

        • No, the insta360 brand is not related.

    • osmo for 99.9 percent of videos

    • Im eyeing this DJI Osmo Action 4 https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/116317425181, I likes the low light feature

  • Want to give 360 videos a go but worrying about the storage that I will need to upgrade to store the footages.

    • +3

360 cameras are amazing BUT you need to invest time in editing them if you want to watch anything. It's not like a phone, point and click. If you can be honest with yourself about that you won't be disappointed.

I have the 360 One R and can swap the camera module out for a standard action cam or a 360 cam.

      • Solid advice. I'll take that into account. Thanks heaps.

  • Does anyone know that if JB HI-FI will match price with ebay, when ebay plus is required?

    • They won't, unfortunately

      • +1

        Thanks mate.

      • But JB "will enthusiastically match the price of an identically stocked competitor product. Negotiable deals are part of our everyday promise."

    • Tried this with a different product a few hours ago, no go

      • Thanks for sharing.

  • I got one with the Anaconda price match deal mentioned 2 weeks ago. Definitely a fan of the 360 camera format. Although you'll spend up on accessories if you're anything like me

    • Who did Anaconda price match with?

      • +1

JB, anaconda beat it by 10% so it was about 670ish all up. Not a bad deal, but this one is better.

        • I had it beat $698 from HN as Anaconda was still listing it as $699 ended up paying $628.

          • @meong: Yeah I was surprised they honoured that price beat

        • I got it for $663 about a week ago from JB. Just asked for a JB deal. It was priced in sale at the time for $747. Got Battery for $69 and 512GB Sandisk Extreme Pro for $66 from JB in the same deal.

    • Just FYI re: accessories you can also use Gopro mount converter which makes it easier to find accessories

    • The footage would be much larger than normal videos and need to invest more in the storage upgrade, right?

      • At least 256GB if you shoot in 5.7K

        • 256GB per video? Some say a 5 min 4k video at 30 fps can use about 3GB. Not too bad tho.

          • +1

@bcYield: If you want to get quality 4K exported video you need to shoot in 8K. Dont forget when you frame a 360 video you're actually cropping them hence why 5.7K which is the default is too low when exported to 4K.

The size i was referring to is to have a comfortable storage left for multiple shots on a day trip.

            • @meong: Most of the time I am lazy and keep the raw footage which costs heaps of space. Looks like I need to learn to clip the video nicely to save space if I choose to start 360 videos.

  • I want some x4 batteries. Any deal ?

  • What's the editing these videos like? As easy as they show on youtube? Also, if anyone bought one of these Insta360 cameras, what's the quality like? Freezes, lags? Seems like the Internet is divided - one half is raving about them, another half is deeply regretting the purchase?

    • +3

I only recently bought it like two months ago and brought it on a trip through South East Asia. Took a little bit of learning to edit mainly because I have no prior Video Editing experience but it's actually pretty intuitive and I get really nice stabilised results with pretty minimal effort when filming; just add key-frames to what you want to show and the video will smoothly transition from key-frame to key-frame.

I used the X4 pretty intensively on my trip and although it gets really warm when you use it and the battery doesn't last the longest, I've personally had no freezes, no lag, no technical problems at all to be honest. The video quality is great, far superior to what you can get on a phone (for video, not for photos), but of course with lenses this wide you're not gonna get good detail on anything far in the distance so just keep that in mind.

If you couldn't already tell, I have zero regrets with my purchase, and I'll continue to use the thing extensively.

      • Is the raw footage out of the X4 a lot better than what is uploaded to Youtube? Almost every 360 X4 footage on Youtube looks awful as the bitrate looks so low it makes the footage so pixellated and has compression artifacts. I'm assuming this is Youtube's fault with high compression???

        • To be honest I haven't tried uploading any of my videos to Youtube, but before I purchased I did watch this review of it and the X4 footage did look a whole lot better than the X3 (https://youtu.be/WPvGvQbNeKc).

And yeah it could also just be Youtube compression artifacts, especially on smaller channels which I suspect isn't given as good of a bitrate on videos as larger creators.

I can try uploading a video on Youtube just to see how it turns out.

Edit: Uploaded a few clips to Youtube to check out the quality and they look pretty good to be honest no compression artifacts from what I can see, at least if you're not using the YT app on your phone, on PC or even YT in mobile browser looks just fine. The app for some reason just doesn't give you a higher quality even if it's available on Shorts, for regular videos it seems a little better but still somehow worse.

          • @Aspality: Even that youtube review you just linked, I'm still not impressed with the quality out of the X4. Still looks a lot softer compared to a normal non-360 footage out of a Action 5 or Gopro 13. Maybe my standards are too high I guess…

            • +1

@SeanConnery: You just have to weigh the pros and cons though. I'm sure a non-360 camera has better image quality, especially in low light cos the X4 ideally needs a lot of light, but it also can't do anything that a 360 camera can do. You either get the shot or you don't, and on a 360 camera, you basically get the shot you want 95% of the time without needing to think about it.

You also do have different levels of sharpness you can select in the Editing software. And by default when using the X4 in single Lens mode it does seem to turn up the sharpening setting compared to in 360.

    • +1

I got free express postage so unsure what you mean.

      • Not sure why I got $4 charge for express post, reading comments for the Motorola edge 5 neo promo yesterday that happened as well, even when I bought it the shipping method changed to express (charging extra fee) but I realised and swapped to normal., however today I realised after payment haha… So talking with support for sure they will do reimbursement..

    • My Ebay summary shows "AUD 729 + 4", but I've been charged $600 with the code.

      • Yeah The shipping charge of $4 is being reflected on the order details page, however it was not deducted this is an issue at the moment with the platform. Support team said.
