Australia Post are now delivery on weekends till Christmas

I read this in today's smh. It explains at least why I got 2 parcels last Saturday!

"To handle the extra parcels, Australia Post is delivering on weekends leading up to Christmas.
It has also opened a city superstore with 24-hour lockers where shoppers can collect or deposit their presents."

  • i received a parcel last saturday as well

  • was expecting deliviries on past two weekends but nope, looks like they are not doing it in my area

  • Yeah we got stuff last week.. It was weird

  • I ordered shoes from Williams online on Friday 23/11 and they were delivered Sunday morning 25/11 by our usual AusPost delivery dude - couldn't believe it!

    True story: http://auspost.com.au/track/track.html?id=PYM0504145

  • we had parcel delivery on the weekend in Noble park too.

  • We've had mail on the weekend since the start of December. In previous years it was only the last weekend before christmas. I read they are experiencing record number of packages to deliver due to people buying online. only a few years ago people thought that email and the internet would kill postal services, looks like it will actually save it!

    • The other side of the coin is, the freight from china, costs next to nothing to send to Australia, where aust post makes nothing out of, so it drives up the costs of local deliveries, stamps, money orders, etc. I may be wrong, but its getting very exxy to send stuff locally now. Anyways, postal service is booming.

      • yes australia post is insanely expensive for domestic mail and always trying to get as much $ out of you as they can. got to find the tricks, like posting DVD's as a large letter using toughbag only $1.80 postage instead of $6.60.

        • Thats not really a trick….just how it works. If it is thinner than 2cm it's a letter. It is a bit silly that there is such a big jump from large letter to small parcel though.

        • I know but if you take it to the counter in PO they will always try to charge you for parcel (IME anyway). I just buy a book of stamps and make packaging out of a wine box, tape it up and put three stamps on and straight into the box - no hassles that way.

        • I know but if you take it to the counter in PO they will always try to charge you for parcel (IME anyway).

Rubbish. They charge you the rate that is relevant. So if it's under 20mm thick, it goes as a letter rate. Over 20mm thick or over 500 grams, and it's a parcel.

  • in my area they have delivered mail the two saturdays before christmas for as long as i can remember

  • I got my parcels deliveries every Sunday since November,
much better than going to my local LPO and wait 20 minutes to get them.

  • Great news. Ordered something on eBay from a Melbourne seller last night, got posted today, was expecting the delivery to be Monday. Maybe I'll get it this Saturday :)

    • Nope didn't get it today :(

    • Worse. This afternoon — the postie came, rang the bell, left the notice at my door and then left. I rushed out, picked up the notice card and chased the postie to his van.

And he was not willing to give me the parcel when he clearly had the parcel on hand and saw me holding on the card! Arghhh!

End up having to do a 4PM dash to the post office. Complained to the staff there and they just shrugged.

  • It appears that parcels are being delivered on weekends, but not normal post.

  • Yep, got my passport on a sunday morning. Was wondering who the heck would ring my doorbell just to say hello.

I hope they're getting paid adequately, because apparently their christmas bonuses have been reduced by Auspost :(

  • Australia Post have delivered to us on the last few weekends leading up to Christmas for many many years. Certainly not anything new for us here in NW Sydney.

  • Someone told me the post man will be doing his rounds tomorrow(Sat). Is that true?

  • We have been delivering in Adelaide on Saturdays for the last 2 months. This weekend they will work the saturday and sunday.

    • Hoping for a parcel tomorrow!

      • So what if I got a few small padded letters coming in from America? Will they be delivered or will I have to wait in till Monday for the post man?

        • I had something come in from America to mine today

        • Is that a small padded bag and was that by the post man or a contractor?

A friend told me that the post man is working in some areas?

  • I got a parcel today…. from a neighbour. In another street. That sounded only partially like my own. The Aus Post delivery went there instead. Top form (to the neighbour, not Oz Post)!

    • Lucky, I didn't receive 2 Christmas presents!
