Parking options in Adelaide CBD in December holiday period

I have booked accommodation in Adelaide CBD close to Frome St and Waefield St intersection from 22-25 Dec which is from this weekend. I am driving from Victoria. However while booking the place the parking issue didn't even come to my mind. As it is too late to find a place to stay I made the booking as soon as I saw vacant rooms.

When the parking issue in CBD came to my mind I checked the hotel web site and realised they don't have on site parking facilities. It is now too late to find another motel out side CBD.

Please help me to find a good safe parking close to this place. I am bit worried to park my dings and scratch free car on street over night as well. As this is weekend and Christmas period where offices are normally closed, is it possible to find a good price to park the car in a secure parking at this place?

Guys who live in Adelaide please help me find a bargain but secure place to par my car. As I am travelling with my family and little ones I need to be able to walk from the motel. If it's a gated parking I might need to go out and come in few times a day as I will be traveling around Adelaide to see the places around.

Any help in this last minute would be greatly appreciated.

  • Not sure that it's going to be cheap but for the budgeted mind sat/sunday cost about $1.60 per 4 hours in some areas on the streets and operates between 8am-5pm which is like $7 a day. Adelaides CBD is quite safe so I wouldn't be worried, just keep it away from hindley street as that's where all the night clubs are. It's also $3 per hour on weekdays which I would be about $21+ in the operating hours on the CBD street but some are max 1-8 hours. (would need to verify) but If you

Actually if i can recall. Frome road if you down past the ponds, there should be 8 hour parking avaliable (past the zoo). If not Victoria drive behind UniAdelaide or WarMemorial Drive for shorter ticket parkings.

    for the high spender http://upark.com.au/rundle/
If you want to spend $28 for one day. More secure but expensive to the alternatives on weekends. On rundle street near target which is a 3 minute walk from the end of frome street. Hope this helped.

  • So welcome to Adelaide, that is when you arrive. So first up, don't panic, parking and driving around Adelaide is miles and miles easier and cheaper than Melbourne. Secondly, I don't think you'll have any trouble finding a park on the street on Saturday and Sunday, particularly on Wakefield st. And that parking is, I kid you not, about 20c from 9am-12pm and then after 12 it's free. Even though it will be busiest shopping day of the year, most people start giving up looking for parking south of Wakefield. Sunday, I think it is free all day, I could be wrong. Wakefield/Frome is a pretty dead part of the weekend. Wakefield is a wide street with 45deg parking and plenty of space, you'd be very unlucky for someone to give you a nick. There are also plenty of laneways that will have space as well. Monday you will have to either move your car all the time or park in a carpark as it will be crazy (well, Adelaide crazy) with people working and shopping. I think the closest undercover park is one off Sudholz Pl, which is off Flinders St. There might be others around, I'm sure a call or email to Motel and they'll know. But the bottom line is, don't worry, it's Adelaide.

  • Thanks for the information so far. As an ozbargainer I want to find the cheap but the best option for me to park. I was expecting the city to be far less crowded during this time as most offices will be closed being very close to Christmas. In that case wouldn't those under cover parking places give any discounts for long term parkings.. well they wouldn't just bother to do anything special just for a week.

What options do I have in the night time. Are there any cheap undercover parkings for the night time?

    • Just realised you said frome street which is abit of a distance to frome road, good luck.

  • As frostface said, Frome and Wakefield is pretty quiet most weekends. I wouldn't worry about parking on street, on Wakefield or Angas Streets as they're pretty safe. There's a little carpark behind the Bakehouse theatre on Angus (ie Hume Lane) which is OK, but frankly I'd go with on-street. On Wakefield, you're just down the road from Police HQ anyway.
