Renting a Motorhome in The School Holidays

We are a family of 3 and interested in renting a 6 Berth Apollo motorhome. We rented one before for 5 days in November this year and the total cost with insurance was $1650. Is it possible to save on insurance costs by having our own insurance? Any suggestions?

Now we are looking to find the best deal over the Christmas school holidays. Any suggestions on finding a good deal are much appreciated. We are based in Adelaide but would be happy to rent elsewhere if cheaper. We plan to travel up to Brisbane. Approximate rental dates between mid December until mid to late January.

Cheers.

  • Are you tuned in to iMoova & Transfercar (among others)?

  • Do you have a car that can tow? Hiring a Caravan could be a better option. It might not sleep all of you (depending on the size you hire), but a few kids in a small tent should do the trick. My family and I used to camp every year. My parents and sister were in a six-man tent (back part), and my brother and I were in a two-man tent.

That way, you have your own car and can leave the caravan and stuff at the site without having to pack up every time you want to go somewhere.

    Could be cheaper as well.

  • It used to be renting a south bound rental was much cheaper than northbound. The sites sumyungguy mentioned or a search for one way camper rental might be useful.
Travel insurance will usually cover car hire, but whether it offers better value than the rental company is a toss up.

What did they say when you called? I wouldnt think they would allow that, but worth a call
