Queenstown (NZ) 7 days travel, what to do?

I'll be going to Queenstown for 7 days in May, any tips on the itinerary?
I am planning to go to Milford Sound, Te Anau, Lake Wakatipu.
Also I'll be renting a car, I hope oz driver license is permitted to drive around NZ.

Was planning to drive to Christchurch and flew back home from there, but according to my friends 7 days won't be enough and pretty much nothing to see in Christchurch as the some of buildings are still in ruins.
So decided to just stay in Queenstown.

Thanks for the help!

Oz drivers licence is definitely permitted in NZ. I would recommend Jucy car rental on the South Island and Apex Car Rental on the North Island. Cheap and good staff at Queenstown.

You could drive North and visit the twin glaciers at Franz Josef. Pretty awesome. We went on a quad bike tour there which was good and caught a helicopter up onto the glacier which was probably the highlight of my first NZ trip.

  • Hire a Downhill Bike in Queenstown and give Mountain Biking a shot in Ben Lomand Forrest. After that give the luge a shot.

Also Wanaka is worth a visit

  • White water rafting, all the adventure stuff like bungy, a heliride is good (perhaps one way to MIlford Sounds, well worth the money). Visit to Lake Wanaka is ok in May although getting a bit cold for a swim. Aspiring national park is nice for a trek and views.

Wouldn't suggest more then a day in Christchurch. Spend time slowly going from Queenstown to Christchurch during the day to soak in the views and stops.

  • go fishing, brother in law said it was amazing!

  • Day 1 relax and visit town
Day 2 book a tour to Milford sound
Day 3 rent a car and go to wanaka and Queenstown puzzle place and hill
Day 4 drive to Christchurch and you could stay somewhere in middle lake tekoa
Day 5 stay one night in Christchurch
Day 6 leave for Queenstown and stay one night in some where in middle
Day 7 chillex and fly back home

  • I just recently returned from Queenstown.
If you have the chance, visit Arrowtown. It's only about 10 minutes drive from Frankston, Queenstown. It has a lot of historical value and a really lovely walking track. Lot of nice shops to look around and food to eat!

  • I recently went to Christchurch, and there really isn't much to do. Not many places to eat/stay, and a very depressing mood around. That being said, the Restart Shipping Containter mall was quite impressive, and Akaroa was lovely!

I highly recommend Lake Wanaka - especially the famous Lone Wanaka Tree!

Fergburger is a necessity of going to Queenstown.
