Help me find cheap and good quality meat

Hi all,

I'm looking for a place in Melbourne (around Prahran) to buy cheap and good quality meat (mostly chicken breast/thighs, premium mince, pork loin).

I normally just get my meat from Woolies or Coles as it is convenient and reasonably priced. I find cheap meat in VIC market but it's just not that easy to get there.

I recently went to Tasman, but the meat (eventhough looks quite fresh) is not any cheaper than the meat from the supermarket.

Any suggestions? Thanks

    I'm from Sydney and I just look up meat wholesalers and buy in bulk. Are you looking to buy in bulk? if that's the go for you I pay $5.50 a kilo… Hope this helps you out. That's buying half a yearling. Which is about 120 kilos.

    If you end up buying meat as one off kilos then it's always going to be more expensive…

    I live in Brisbane and quite often IGA's have great prices on meat. It's not every IGA, and some of them are better than others, but definitely worth checking out IGA's for meat, and checking regularly as prices change everyweek. One particular IGA has a mega meat sale about once a month where everything is about half the price of Woolworths. I always stock up when I catch their sales.

    One of the local IGA's around here has no good meat prices ever, yet the other two local ones quite often have fabulous meat prices.

    So just regularly check IGA's, you'll eventually learn which are the good ones for meat in your area.

    Vic Market would be your only best bet in that area.

    I go to Tip Top Butchers in Laverton. Great prices, great quality.
