HP Microserver N40L drivers

Hi, I bought one of the N40L servers about 2 months ago and only finished setting it up today with the HDD.

I can't seem to find a CD with the drivers and not sure if one was supplied?

When I search the HP Aus/US/UK sites, it says there are no drivers for N40L or product ID 658553-371.

Any ideas?

Am installing Vista at the moment, and then will upgrade to Windows 7 (only have an upgrade DVD).

Thanks for any suggestions.

  • Wouldn't be surprised if you didn't receive one. When I bought the N36L way back when they were dirt cheap, they were sold without any operating system, so no disc was supplied.

They'll usually only give you a disc if it comes with software.

    • You'll get updated drivers by going to AMD, mouse over Support & Drivers on the top right and choose:

      Embedded Graphics
      Radeon Embedded
      AMD785E | SB8X0 Chipset
      Windows 7 (32 or 64)

      312MB download

  • I set mine up with Ubuntu Server (12.04 LTS) - everything worked "out of the box". I reckon if Linux recognises the hardware surely Windoze would?

Anyway, looking at the supplied CD it only seems to contain minimal documentation for a heap of languages.

    • Not really fair for two reasons:

1: Linux is constantly updated rather than the infrequent Windows releases. Mostly the difference is because you have to pay for a new release.

2: Linux is (mostly) driven by GPLed hardware support which they are free to repackage. Windows is not and may not have the rights to include all the third party drivers.

      • Hi Bruce,

I probably spend too much time on 'nix boxes. :)
