5 Extra Inches and everything else you want for under $700. Sold out on-line but I'm pretty sure there are a few left in-store

    • I'm looking for something 42 inch or lower as i am going to send this back to my home country. They have import restrictions for larger than 42 inch TVs.

      • How's $469 delivered from Kogan sound? To wit: http://www.kogan.com/au/buy/42-3d-led-tv-full-hd-usb-pvr/

        • Is the Kogan brand good ? I mean will they last long at least 2-3 years. I'm looking for an established brand as i am going to ship this to another country

Can't you buy there & get local warranty, anything you buy here would have to be shipped back here or just dumped if it fails. Strong Aussie dollar should help with most other currencies…

Honestly, over the years I've returned as many brand names as cheapies; it's the luck of the draw IME…I'd be buying local for that reason, whatever brand you decide to buy!

I have friends with newer Kogan sets that seem just fine, no issues at all. I did have a 42" non-3D LED set myself (from this deal: http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/71756 ) for a short period until I Brodened it & made $100 on the deal…seemed to work fine, beautiful image quality; and the best part, no complaints to date from the workmate who bought it off me! :)

        • TV's are so expensive there due to import taxes and it is cheap to carry one when i am going back as i get some duty free allowance :)
for many known brands, there are service centers which i hope would do the repairs for a cost for their own brands.

          Fair enough.

To be honest I don't have any experience of service centres in Australia charging any less for out of warranty repairs to their own brands as opposed to other makes; hopefully your country is a bit less mercenary! ;)

        • not that sure about what they charge though !

+1 for the LG mentioned above. Just bought one myself.

  • There's a few cheap samsungs you could get for under $700 at HN with some negotiation - or Bing Lee if you want to haggle and get better communication.

    • I went to the HN store yesterday but couldn't find any deal around $700

  • Would the prices go down within 3-4 months or will they go up ?

TV prices really only go down as a general trend…except of course for the occasional genuine short-term bargains.

Nice set, missing a 'D' for the OP's purposes though…

[edit] Ignore this comment, I'm clearly having an illiterate day! :)

it is 3D though, isn't it?

    • I'm sorry, yes it is in fact 3D…my mistake for not reading the details properly!

Panasonic 42" VIErA LED LCD Television. Enjoy the convenience of passive 3D and smart networking with this Television.

      Included Accessories…Four x 3D Eyewear supplied (Polarised/Passive 3D)

      • what does it mean by Passive 3D

        • +1

It uses passive polarising filters to achieve the L/R field presentation for the 3D effect; whereas active uses image synchronisation to LCD shutterglasses to accomplish the same effect by alternating L/R opacity.

Each method has it's own pro's & con's, but the lowdown is that extra glasses for passive are much cheaper (you can even use the ones from the cinema) & since there's no active sync'ing to TV refresh rates you don't get the peripheral flicker that some of us can perceive using LCD shutterglasses @ 60Hz/eye.
