Sorry if its a noob question! But whats wrong with Epic?
Nothing.
I think steam has a following due to being the first around, but I'm honestly surprised about how bad both are in comparison even to the bloated mobile app store.
There's quite a bit wrong with Epic in basic usability. As an example, if you're installing something and run out of space, you can't uninstall something else, because the uninstall goes in a queue and there's no queue control like Steam.
There's very little feedback on what you're doing when clicking on things, with no info pages on games in your library etc, and rather than being able to scroll through them all at once you have to go through numbered pages. The sort options are weak to non existent, the details on your play history and save states are non existent, etc. When I reinstalled Windows EGS couldn't even use game files it had already downloaded, and needed to download all the games again.
steam has a cleaner interface, a reliable way of not breaking immersion by making techno-beeps when you get an achievement, and a simpler modding interface (just hit the subscribe button to use mods lol) vs epic
it's the only reason i have 3-ish games on both epic and steam. RDR2 is one of them
But what do these have to do if I just want to play the game?
@cille745: Both game clients have absolutely no impact if you want to just play the game. If you care about extra features OUTSIDE of the game, then steam is superior.
GOG or pirating is even better because you don't need to be online ever.
@cille745: I don't remember if it happened in RDR2, but I couldn't get achievements to stop beeping in AW2 and DD2 and that completely ruined the immersiveness of some pretty atmospheric moments
Just my 2c
@Pusheencat: Annoying as it is, Epic funded all of AW2 so without them the game wouldn’t exist anyway
It is an anti-consumer platform. No reviews, discussion forums, positive/negative percentage rating on games.
If you have to go elsewhere for these things, may as well get the game from the other site that provides these useful features.
These aren't deal breakers for a lot of people. People just want to play the game and we are on ozbargain so they will flock to the best price
Wild calling the platform giving away hundreds of free games “anti-consumer” over the platform that almost blocked Australia for not providing obligatory refunds as per our laws
It isn't as gamer focused, but isn't anywhere near UPlay or EA. Steam is better with everything but Epic gives you free weekly games. If you have prime you can also get free games to your Epic account there. I have them all just for the free games, but Steam is my main pc game client. Oh and on a handheld PC like MSI Claw or Asus ROG Ally X ect, it has the pig screen mode which is just awesome.
Unfortunately you still need the Rockstar launcher to play this game
yeah true your better off waiting til its on steam again onsale because its way better.
what did Porker say? didn't see the comment? lol must have been bad.
Had it ever been this price on Steam?
Like less than a week ago.
Was $27.99 for ultimate edition
Base game was $22.48 on Steam - same as this deal.
Red Dead Redemption 2: Ultimate Edition is $27.99 on the epic games store right now too
https://store.epicgames.com/en-US/p/red-dead-redemption-2--u…
There's a very easy way to check y'know :)
You got me! I was being lazy
Another alternative for price checking games if you don't know already https://isthereanydeal.com/game/red-dead-redemption-2/info/
I prefer https://gg.deals/ as it also includes key marketplaces like Eneba and Instant Gaming but ITAD works too.
@CrispyChrispy: But you can also easily switch them off if you want to stick to more reputable sources.
Or set up a waitlist on isthereanydeal.com
What Are We Doing Dutch: The Game
We need bargains Arthur
We can’t fight Nvidia. Can’t fight AMD. Can’t fight crypto…
I bought this game on Epic or GoG, but then have to download the p"rated version because the game launch took to long to load on their platform (I have a 4090)
The game that you either call the greatest videogame on earth, or the most boring videogame on earth.
I found it too hand holdy. Can't see the appeal in that type of game
I like games that tell a story because you get more hours out of a story and more "emotional engagement" because you've experienced some of these things in game.
Rdr2 takes this to a different level, not by using any tricks, but just but the quality of the story and immersion throughout the game (that includes the long as travel)
Now if you just want to pewpewpew, there are better ways to game than this.
Didn't say anything about pewpew. Said it holds your hand like most modern games made in unreal
@belongsinforums: Sorry mate. Didn't mean it as anything specifically for you but in general for others reading. More of an experience than a shooter if that makes sense
@elcheapoinoz: Didn't take any offence. Maybe it's more of a reflection of modern AAA games. Didn't neg you btw
I couldn't understand the appeal and so jumped through a YouTube no-commentary playthrough of the whole game. Every time-stamp I jumped to was just the player riding a horse through the woods, going somewhere.
That's about it. Its a cowboy life Sim. Like a larger scale of Zelda breath of wild.
I couldn't get into it. Too much wandering around. Spectacular but boring….for me.
Yeah but it's on Epic though
