HP Pavilion DM1-4108AU 11.6" Notebook Windows7 $249 at JB Hi-Fi Eastland (Online Price Is $368)

490

Hi guys,

I picked up the HP 11inch Notebook dm1-4108AU for a bargain price! $249.00 - this is the sticker price at JB Hi-Fi Eastland (or was - as a new member I couldn't post immediately). Staff there told me they had about 80 in stock, and weren't going to move them at the official JB price ($368 online) due to the next model up (Windows 8 version) being only $10 more expensive, so they dropped the price.

The laptop itself is quite small, very light at just over a kilo, and reputedly has excellent battery life and acceptable performance (compared to Netbooks around the same price/size).

Having said that - mine is going to be replaced under warranty already. Issue with something loose inside I think - randomly loses use of touchpad/keyboard and screen flickers. Make sure you keep your receipt and register with HP (their support were very quick to respond at least).

  • Happy to report that after waiting for HP to send me their 'authority to exchange' letter, I called them, cancelled the warranty case, and got JB to replace it. New dm1 seems to be much more stable - I think the faulty unit may have actually been an ex-display model or return (based on HP telling me I was already 8 months into my warranty). At least JB didn't ask questions, just took a copy of receipt and swapped me to a new unit. Didn't check the price, but they still had plenty there (Eastland)

  • I was at JB Hifi Eastgardens today and saw this laptop in person, or rather the successor to it running Windows 8. The price was around $350 IIRC.

    • The later laptop runs a slightly higher grade processor, and has Win8 and a pattern on the screen panel. Otherwise I believe they are much the same. Have now been using mine on the train and at homme with no complaints. Best $249 I've spent in a while - does everything a tablet would do, plus a little more. Only niggle is that the screen is very reflective, as is the screen border panel.

  • If you buy one of these, go into the graphics driver settings and disable Vari-Bright. It's turned on by default and washes out the colours if the brightness is turned up when the laptop is on battery.

    • cheers dick!

  • Not sure if JB Hifi commits to match the price principle. I wrote to JB Sydney for matching the price for DM1 which they are selling online at 331.20 to 249 and even asked them to show the receipt of 249 shared by a fellow forum user and this is what they replied in email :

    "Hi Varun,

We have been made aware of this sale via OzBargain.

The sale was made by a new casual employee who made a mistake.

    We cannot match this price.

    Thanking you"

Not sure if it was mistake of a casual employee. People who brought can comment. Regrettable but unfortunately bearable in this professional world.

    Regards

    Varun

  • Just FYI- JB Hifi Moore park (Sydney) matched it at $315. Can provide reciept if anyone's interested! Very good laptop- I was looking to get a netbook but you can't beat this. Great power and even the AMD 6320 graphics (I'm not saying it's a gaming laptop) at that size and price is very good.

  • These are now down to $295 with JB's current 15% off:
