                    • @AusNugz:

I was talking about Optus prepaid not allowing you to receive SMS for free overseas.

Coles prepaid did allow you to receive SMS overseas without roaming pack.

To be honest boost sucks in regional WA. I always think it'll work better than it actually does. Constant disappointment.

I'm not saying it's worse than others as I don't know, but it's still not acceptable

      • What's the go with Amaysim? How are they better?

  • Any luck porting in and out of Boost with a $2 Telstra SIM? Alternatively, what are the cheapest methods?

    • +2

      Yes.
Did this a few weeks ago and had no issues with the $2 Telstra SIM.

Keep getting on the payment step

    "SORRY, SOMETHING WENT WRONG

We’re sorry but we’re experiencing technical issues. Please try again later."

    • +1

      same

    • same. Not sure what is the issue.

I contacted Boost and they said, there is no issue at their end.

    • Any ideas if this is fixed?

      • +1

never mind. Used a debit card instead of credit card and it worked.

  • On activation by 10 Mar

    What happens after 10th Mar??

I thought I would share my experience with Boost and then Catch Connect (120GB plan, 365 days @ $108.00). I have been with Boost for a few years since they had their 80GB plan. As everyone knows their plans have been going up every year to the point that is wasn't viable for me to stay with them. I only use about 50GB/year as I am on wifi most of the time. I have also had a deterioration in service for the last few months even though my phone shows 5G. I also had dead spots near my home, which was very frustrating, even though my phone had a full signal. I was very apprehensive changing over to Catch Connect and using the Optus wholesale network, but I have been more than impressed and I am getting much better reception with Optus in my area with no dead spots. Even the porting was faultless and took about 5 min to change over. We even did a trip to Gippsland and had no issues with reception. For context I live in the inner SE suburbs of Melbourne.

    • Precisely my experience

    • +1

Makes me want to try but I live 15 minutes south of Ballarat, and it's significantly more regional that SE Melbourne… I'm afraid I will never get the same coverage without Boost/Telstra.

      • +3

When your Boost plan is expiring you can always try a monthly plan from a provider that uses the Optus wholesale network and if not happy move back to Boost after a month. If the Optus wholesale network is good then look for a 365 day plan that is on sale at that time.

  • +2

Is this the cheapest 365 plan with 5G access outside Vodafone?

    • No optus with cashrewards is cheaper

      • +1

        Thats expired

      • I am looking at CR Optus…which plan are you suggesting is cheaper???

    • Interested in knowing that as well

  • Boost Mobile Cashback
$300 Prepaid SIM (excludes eSIM) $50

Would I still qualify for cashback if I purchased the physical SIM and then moved to eSIM after a couple days?

    • +3

Yes, because once it's activated they don't care if it's still physical or eSIM

  • Will the card expire if I buy now but activate in April?

    • +1

      It won't …you won't get cashback.

  • Boost doesnt post to regional tasmania?

  • +2

Keep getting error something went wrong . Tried a few times now and gave up .

    • Tried twice already and I get the same error.

    • +1

Tried a couple times yesterday and again this morning,
      same error.

    • same, tried today and yesterday and it just errors. im about to give up and find something else another time.

    • any luck? Still getting error message

    • I am also getting an error when using the TopCashback link. I submitted a support ticket… I'll report back if I notice it's resolved.

    • Same here, just tried 3 times using my phone

    • +1

tried different browsers, and even different computer, same error.

Finally worked when I used a different Credit Card.

      • what credit card did you use?

  • Anyone knows when do you get the cash back?

    • +1

I still haven't gotten my cashback from October last year, even after multiple follow-ups…

  • +3

Clearly Telstra trying to kill off Boost. It's not the same performance it used to be - I've been with Boost about 6 years. Anyone thinking it really is the same as Telstra is delusional. Work phones are Telstra, this is not the same.

    • +1

What do you mean by performance? How are you testing this theory? Are you using 2 identical phones? I have tested 2 identical iPhones at various locations in Melbourne and there's absolutely no difference in reception. Obviously, the speed is bound by which plan you choose with Boost. Ever since Boost raised their price, all of a sudden they're shit.

      • My 12 month prepaid Telstra SIM is about to expire next week and I was going to get a Boost 12 month SIM, but reading all these posts here are making me second guess it now. Not sure what to do. Whenever I look at coverage maps, Boost seems superior to everyone else. I'm also in regional WA, so I am not sure what to do, as I doubt Optus or any of those would perform the same. I didn't think Boost was the same as Telstra or anything, but I knew it had slower speeds and maybe less 5G coverage and I was OK with all that.

I am thinking of trying the porting option to another MVNO/MNO, but again, not sure what to do as I've never done that before and not sure if it will be any complications doing that, and then buying another Telstra 12 month SIM to stay with them. Doesn't leave me a lot of time, though, as all these 12 month ones, the bonus data seems to expire March 10th if not activated by then.

Edit : I also was on Boost a couple of years ago and I do remember having the calls cut out/drop out sometimes when I tried to either call someone or answer a phone call, the call would disconnect right away when I answer or the other people that I was trying to call answered. Apart from that, I don't remember any other issues. Maybe it was a 5G thing as I think they just got 5G around that time too?

    • +1

Who said they were exactly the same in terms of performance?

At the end of the day, they are quite comparable, yet Telstra's 12-month 160GB pre-paid plan costs an additional $145 (compared to the offer in this deal which is 12m/265GB/$205 after cashback).

So the question is, are you receiving the extra $145 of value from Telstra? Who knows, I highly doubt it though.

  • +2

They do have the same network coverage with Telstra, but with low priority. I've used boost and Telstra postpaid plan at the same time and the difference is obvious, tho they do have the same signal bar in my iPhone.

    • +1

Also in my office (Melbourne city), Optus is tested faster than Telstra, which I felt surprised when seeing the result.

      • Yes, Opensignal rate Optus faster than Telstra.

    • What do you mean difference is obvious? Are you referring to the call quality?

      • No, I mean the speed of opening ozbargain. lol

  • I usually wait till black friday so I get a discount on eBay or something.

  • Sorry Guys new to this , what is topcash back and how can i get the $50 off please .

    • its a cashback website, you register on it and then buy this sim through that website clicking to boost. cashback comes in timeframes ranging from instant to 60days.later on that cashback can be withdrawn to bank accounts.

  • Boost website is still horrible.

  • Who is best to port out to before returning to Boost if this is new activations only?

    • Whoever is offering the cheapest monthly pre-paid plan?

  • -1

Keep believing Telstra prioritise their customers.

    • +1

That post doesn't apply anymore. As they have recently changed their system from Siebel to Salesforce. Which is why they are also splitting out JB Hifi / TGG plans out into their separate entities and no longer billed under Telstra.

Also a CRM (Customer Relationship Management) system manages customers, it doesn't manage network infrastructure, so the statement about "it's all in siebel therefore has same priority" actually doesn't make sense.

  • +2

Thanks. Nearly recharged early, decided to google if it activates immediately.. IT DOES.

Those who have used a lot of prepaid services already know this, but it is news to me. So don't recharge until expiry date of your current plan.

    • +2

This should be illegal! Is by mistake you recharge an annual Sim one month into your 12 month term, then you would lose the remaining 11 months!!
There should be a system made mandatory by TIO or whichever authority that alerts the consumer before they recharge an existing prepaid account or it should go into a queue for when the current plan ends, the recharge kicks in.
Surely if telcos in India can put it in place, Australia can follow.

    • This Boost works as a recharge or do I have to port in and out? (I know the extra GBs is for new customer only)

  • Does not work still…Has anyone managed to purchase one at all ?

    • Failed many time until i used a debit card instead of a credit card then worked first time.

  • Still having issues, "Sorry something went wrong"
Have tried in chrome with all extensions disabled, then again in incognito, and again in firefox, and again in firefox private browsing, none work.
Also tried with a different credit card as someone mentioned above but still no luck

    • Try a debit card - that fixed it for me.

      • First one worked for me, The second didnt, I used different, name, license, address and was a different card that worked.

  • Yep no luck..i need to buy 2 packs and this doesn't work.

  • If I already have an existing service, but want to add an additional one with new number etc, would it be eligible for cashback?

  • Anyone know what information i need to provide support when i failed to transfer my number? I got an email titled "Transferring to Boost Mobile - please confirm your details".
So my current carrier is actually under my parent's name but i ended up using my ID to transfer. I read the faq (only after i failed which is my fault lmao) that i should've used the same identification to transfer so i think that's where the failure came from.

  • +1

My cashback from the optus deal is still pending with topcashback. Anyone know when it clears?

  • I can confirm I was able to buy one using CBA debit card, straight transcation no issues at all.
