  • Finally I'm moving out of the stone ages bye bye Telstra modem. Thanks OP

  • Is this the best option for gigabit in a small 1br apartment for both wifi and ethernet?

    • Could go with something cheaper tbh

    • This is purchase is dumb for that kind of network.

I'm still using an archer c7 router for my gigabit NBN connection that was under $100 for my 2 storey home and it covers the entire house even upstairs wifi perfectly fine. Obviously I have it positioned in the dead centre of the home which is why I don't have any issues with any devices. Main PC has wired connection ofcourse, but every other device mobile/fire TV/TV's etc have rock solid connection.

  • I should be getting FTTP in June, If I buy this now does it just get plugged straight into the Fibre box NBN installs in your house?

Also, for the time being I am just using a modem/router in one combo. If I buy this to use before fibre is installed do I need to buy a modem separately from the router? Or can it be plugged straight into the wall or into the router/modem combo I already have? I'm using a Netcomm nf20mesh

    Thanks :)

      Just plugs in

You can use your original modem router and plug an Ethernet cable into this if you buy pre-upgrade

      • Thanks Dan, I appreciate the reply.

Am i going to notice any difference in gaming going between an old tplink router my old isp gave me to this on a 250 nbn plan when my computer is using ethernet?

    • This one does have a ethernet port that supports 2.5g, but you still need to check if your PC has a 2.5g port or not. For gaming performance, zero difference as ping would be the same, especially when you are connected through wire. For everyday download (e.g. using Steam to download CS2) there will most likely be a difference.

I have a 2.5gbps port on my PC but that wouldn't make a difference on 250/25 right, I don't do any file sharing over the network or anything. For speedtest I'm getting 270/23 so not sure if it can really make my download speed faster either.

      • Sorry if this is a dumb question but would a 2.5g port make a difference in Australia when the max NBN FTTP speeds offered is only 1000 Mbps? What does having a 2.5gb port help over having a 1gb port if the max speeds here won't reach it? Thanks

        • No it doesn't, but there will likely be multi gigabit internet soon/possibly later this year, and then if you want that, you will need a 2.5Gbit WAN and LAN port.

        • Yes, when you're moving data between your NAS and client / workstation.

  • Got two of these in my house, 182m2 single story.
Works an absolute treat with 24 wireless devices. Ethernet Backhaul AI Mesh.
Purchased 2 on Black Friday sales for $399 each. This is the cheapest I've ever seen these.
    Came from 1 x TUF AX6000, 2 x TUF AX5400.

I only needed 2 of these compared to the 3 others. Overkill? definitely.

  • You convinced me to order a second let's go got 5 bed single story so fingers crossed it did the job.

I’ve just pulled the trigger on this. My trusty RTAC68U is due for retirement and I wanted to stay with Merlin. Hopefully, Asus will support this for a good while longer.

    • Was there ever any stock again after it went OoS? Every time I looked it was out of stock and now seems to have gone back up to regular price?

  • Got mine today, the web interface feels really clunky to use. I can't tell any difference either so far going from my old TP link ISP provided router on a 250/25 line, on the other hand it looks cool.

Is it worth installing merlin on this?

    • I'd say it's well worth a try. If my experience with Merlin on the RTAC68U is anything to go by. Its rock solid with only a few tweaks and fixes from the Asus firmware. I know I'll be installing it (I just got this).

      • What actual extra functionality or differences did you get from going to merlin?

        • Running a tailscale server on it.

  • Got it for 280 in Sep.
single device is able to covers full 900 sqm land.

  • We currently use TP-Link deco M5 to cover a 350sqm house. How many of this would we need?

OOS? about to pull the trigger

    • Yep, it no longer shows backorder ETA.

      • Damn will stick to my old AX88U

  • Item is sold out @Meg4

  • Does this router work with NBN FTTC?

  • Why spend $355 on a now outdated dual-band Wi-Fi 6 device?

May aswell spend $509 and buy their latest dual-band Wi-Fi 7 model, which will receive updates for a number of years to come:
