Flight Sim 2024 PC Recomendations

Looking for recomendations for a PC to play MSFS 24.

I had a read of the minimum specs, but having trouble relating that to the real world as I am not super familiar. What I am seeing online suggests this is a CPU intensive game but obviously GPU is a key factor, also seems people are saying that you should aim for the upper end of the spec.

Anyone have real world experience with this? Would like to find the cheapest option which will play the game smoothly - doesn't need to be super res. I have two Dell QHD 27 monitors to utilise.

  • Playing on one monitor or two? What resolution total?!? What FPS do you consider "smooth"?

The more pixels to push at higher frame rates, the higher the price :/

Turn a FPS counter on and play some first person shooters (to see what FPS you consider "smooth") …

    • I really don't have much experience unfortunately, I don't have a PC at the moment and have been playing console games much of my life.
I'll reach out to a friend to recommend me an FPS target rate

      • Double the price of your console to get roughly similar experience :/

  • MSFS does support cloud gaming, if you have gamepass ultimate. It's one of the few games where latency doesn't really matter. Though I tested a bunch of games with cloud gaming and latency didn't hurt the experience. I even downloaded some of the games to see if it's much better and it wasn't much better.

    • Oh interesting… so I could theoretically play on a much lower spec PC?

Your PC specs won't be what matters with cloud gaming, more so your internet speeds.

      • Absolutely. If you have fibre NBN then you should be golden, but I've tried it with the Coalition copper NBN and it's okay too. You cloud save game carries over too if you install it, so you're not "locked in" to the cloud version. And with cloud you could in theory play on a train in your morning commute or on your phone in the bathroom at work.

  • Minimum specs would be a very poor experience. Aim for recommended or higher if you can.

Might be cheaper to get an Xbox Series X to play it.

You can them plug in a mouse, keyboard or approved flight yoke/stick.

You'll be limited to one monitor though but might be easier given you have limited PC experience.

As example, an Xbox may cost cheaper than a decent GPU for the PC let alone the other required parts.

  • You want to get a x3d processor. 9950x3d is going to be released soon. But I'd probably get a 9800x3d. You will get a lot more frames than with a regular chip.

  • gfx card must be 5090
