CBA Ultimate Awards Card: Spend $3000/M for 25k/M Awards Pts (or 17.5k/M QFF Pts $90 1Yr Fee) for 4Mo, $0/M Fee with $4k/M Spend

481

Looks to be similar to this popular deal from 2023, although the required spending is a bit higher now.

EDIT FOR CLARIFICATION: My primary interest in this is as a 0 fees overseas travel card, with the QFF points being a nice bonus. As mentioned in the comments, there are better options if you're purely interested in points.

"Earn 25,000 CommBank Awards points or 17,500 Qantas Points each month when you spend $3,000 or more per month for the first 4 months on a new Ultimate Awards credit card. Ongoing eligibility, exclusions and offer Ts&Cs apply."

Important note from the T&C's

"Offer commenced 1 March 2025 and is only available on new Ultimate Awards credit cards applied for. Offer not available to customers who currently hold, or have held, any activated Awards card types in the 18 months prior as a primary cardholder or customers who switch from other card types."

You need to spend $2000 per month to avoid monthly fees.
Spend $1500 per month to get the 12,500 bonus points

      • thanks for the correction :)

  • Application with CBA was such a nightmare, I've never had some much back n forth with a bank before. Repeatedly asked for Pay Slips they already had. Couldn't ammend erroneous details and instead provided work arounds. After 2 months application ended up being denied.

  • I'm feeling extremely frustrated and torn about which “trash" card to choose. Really sad that Nab's signature offer passed away. I need one that doesn't have FTX fee.

Get ChatGPT help me do the calculation and cannot see any reason not choosing Smart Award.

Let’s recalculate the points earned for each card assuming:

    • All spending is international, so the base rate is:
      • Ultimate Awards: 3 points per $1
      • Smart Awards: 1 point per $1
    • Promotional bonus points are earned each month if the spending criteria is met.

    Ultimate Awards Calculation (Per Month)
    • Required Spend: $3,000
    • Base Points:
      3 points per $1 → 3 × $3,000 = 9,000 points
    • Bonus Points: 25,000 points
    • Total Points per Month: 9,000 + 25,000 = 34,000 points

    Over 4 months:
    - Total Spend: 4 × $3,000 = $12,000
    - Total Points: 4 × 34,000 = 136,000 points
    - Points per Dollar: 136,000 ÷ 12,000 ≈ 11.33 points per $1

    Smart Awards Calculation (Per Month)
    • Required Spend: $1,500
    • Base Points:
      1 point per $1 → 1 × $1,500 = 1,500 points
    • Bonus Points: 20,000 points
    • Total Points per Month: 1,500 + 20,000 = 21,500 points

    Over 4 months:
    - Total Spend: 4 × $1,500 = $6,000
    - Total Points: 4 × 21,500 = 86,000 points
    - Points per Dollar: 86,000 ÷ 6,000 ≈ 14.33 points per $1

    Conclusion
    • Ultimate Awards: Approximately 11.33 points per $1
    • Smart Awards: Approximately 14.33 points per $1

    Balance Point:
Under the assumption that all spending is international, the Smart Awards Credit Card offers a higher yield in points per dollar during the promotional period, provided you meet the spending requirements each month.

This means that, on a per-dollar basis, you’d earn more rewards with the Smart Awards card in this scenario, even though the Ultimate Awards card has a higher base rate for international spending.

    Hope this would help!

  • Are the bonus points credited each month?

Have had this card a couple of months and haven't received any 25k bonus points.

    • Hi @TEER3X.

Keen to hear how you went with receiving the bonus points - did they eventually come through on their own?

      Thanks.

      • I'm more than two statements in and am getting concerned too.

        • If you use the commbank app, go to accounts, click "See Award Points and Redeem", then click "Redeem Now" on any category, it should show all points including bonus points.

The app doesn't show bonus points for me yet.

          • @TEER3X: Unfortunately, mine aren’t there either. Thanks for letting us know though - hadn’t looked there for a while.

            • @AmexReferralPlease: Thanks for responding - same, I can't see the bonus points there either, I will wait a few more days before calling CBA.

              • @alecsmart: How did you go? I just called and they said a bulk credit would be done after 4 months as per the website. I've just checked the website and it says up to 90 days after the statement period ends, so technically I can't complain yet. I'm still worried that I'm churning money through this card if it's not getting me the bonus points, especially since TEER3X has got them.

                  @AmexReferralPlease: hey @AmexReferralPlease.

CBA mentioned that I have to wait for up to 90 days from the 2nd statement (which was the end of the 1st qualifying period) for the 1st set of bonus points to come through.

They confirmed the offer is correctly applied to my account and that the spend criteria has been met, so the points should come through.

Link to expired offers confirms this logic:
                  https://www.commbank.com.au/credit-cards/credit-cards-offers…

No option but to wait at this point.

I will keep you posted if I see any movement on the bonus points being allocated.

                • @AmexReferralPlease: Hi @AmexReferralPlease.

fyi, the 25000 points came through yesterday into my account.

                  • @alecsmart: Many thanks for letting me know @alecsmart. I just checked after receiving your message and mine has arrived too.

      • Points are there, just have to click through the app to get to the website (redeem points)

  • How many points on CBA rewards points convert convert if you select Cashback on your balance?

  • They rejected me from this card. Said apparently the credit limit of $6k was too high for me.. even though i've clearly taken reward cards with $15k limits before. CBA suck.
