Are they flown to Australia or sent by ship ?

    • +3

This is why they only sell well when they're on special. Usually, you see plenty of stock on display. I'm sure a few people are buying them at $4.50 each, but not many, especially in this economy.

      • +3

It sells quite well surprisingly. People buy these in a pack of 6 normally (I think comes down to about $3 each). If you have a family of 3 or 4, that gets finished pretty quickly. It comes in a decent box too so people also buy this for gifting

        • +2

People buy these in a pack of 6 normally (I think comes down to about $3 each).

          $26.90 ÷ 6 = $4.48

        • +8

It used to be 18.90 for a pack of 6, they price jacked. Since the price jack we just stopped buying.

      • +7

They wouldn't be in business if what you said is correct

        • unless they have very frequent sales.

first, they steal our gas, then they sell us overpriced? cheese tarts 😤

  • Shame they didn't time this with the 50% Kurimu deal haha

Is it always kurimu x hokkaido baked cheese tart throughout Australia?

    • They want you going back every week

  • +1

sorry if dumb question. Is cheese tarts and cheesecakes similar?

    • +1

Both taste cheesy, but texture different, think of tart vs cake….

    • +4

Not a dumb question, these tastes much closer to what we would refer to as portuguese tarts that you can grab at coles for 3.5$for two more than cheesecakes or anything else.

These are overpriced & glorified variation of the Hongkong/Macau rendition of the Pastel de nata/Egg Tarts, that only gets sold at this price because its japanese.

At this price, yeah give them a try no biggie they are a nice little savoury snack you can eat cold or reheat in the oven for a quick bit. At that 4.5 for once price you are paying the weeb tax.

      • Savoury? Aren't these tarts sweet?

      • +2

You serious? These cheese tarts are nowhere like Portuguese tarts.

        • +2

Agreed- these are >>>>>>>Coles worth egg tarts

      • Portuguese tarts are $5 in Sydney from places like tuga or belem

    • These have cream cheese and Parmesan mixed in

  • -1

The one time I agree with jv. Overpriced even after 50% off.

  • These cost about $2 each in Hokkaido itself dor a superior creamier version. These are not bad though, decent deal at this price for Australia.

    • +6

Australians are just getting ripped off tbh. Even places like Daiso and Muji literally double their yen price. 1500 Yen labelled on a product = 30 AUD.

Things that cost USD is now doubled plus 5%, just look at the USD RRP of tech and what we pay.

      • It's been like that for a long time

The cost of alcohol is ridiculous compared to overseas. Makes this poison feel like a luxury.

    • +8

I feel like this is kind of a null point. Pizza is cheaper and better in Italy but we still buy pizza here? We're in a different country, of course it will be priced differently.

  • +2

I am surprised they are still operating with that price, $4.5 for tart. If they belonged to mum and dad franchisees then their must be struggling.

    • +4

      They're must be struggling

      • +1

        There must be struggling /s

        Wot lingo u usin ?

  • My go to Hong Kong Dim Sum shop has $2.50 egg tart everyday. Fluffy pastry base and if you caught them just coming out of the oven its so nice…..

    • Where? Oh god, please be in Sydney Eastern Suburbs

        Delight Dim Sum in Hurstvile.

        • Close enough! Thanks, the pineapple buns look good too

    • Wow- they're minimum $3 down in Melbourne these days…

      • Yes and I tried one at Box Hill mall cost more and not as good. I believe they deserve a long running deal post, didn't do it cos taste these food are very personal. For instance my mum don't like them and say its not firm enough compare to yum cha ones and a friend of mine say the egg is not as good as the one in ground floor Burwood Chinatown. My reply to both is its bloody $2.50, and you compare to others that is 30% more expensive….

  • Diabeteus here we come

I find that the Australian franchise doesnt do it as well as the stores in Asia. There is some difference in taste.

    • There is a difference in taste.
I don't like the Uncle Tetsu's in Australia either

  • +2

I remember they had similar offer and went there before noon and was all gone by then. It’s while stock last so who knows how many they will be offering.

  • +2

Be warned! There will be queues… I turned up to World Square last time around 20 minutes early and the line was already huge. Waited one hour :( Not worth it for some tarts.

  • These are not as good as Uncle Tetsu's but for half price, I'll bite.

  • They bloody closed their stores in Adelaide and it looks like Mr. Cheese is following suit, my heart weeps.

  • They'll instantly make you fatter

  • +1

the promotion last week was terrible, needed to wait in line for nearly an hr just to get the pastries for half price! Would not bother unless you really love them.

  • Can someone explain to me why these are liked? Serious question

    • The cream cheese and Parmesan tastes good and every time I make them at home they suck 😔 and it's on me but the recipes online don't turn out well

      • -1

        Is that it? Huh

  • I love these!

Even it RRP because it’s yummo.

  • Get in early. Most likely either low stock or bargained.

  • +1

A little puzzled why people are complaining about the price- yes it's not cheap per se but similarly don't think it's outrageously expensive either.

These have a "brand" and would use more expensive ingredients vs your typical tarts in Colesworth (and those are "non-branded"). A 4-pack Portuguese tart at Nando's costs $14.95.

Most wouldn't bat and eyelid and willing to pay upwards of $8 for a slice of cake in a cafe but calls a $4.50 cream cheese tart expensive?

  • lol in Sydney its just in the North and CBD

  • +4

The hurstville one closed down. The only time i ever saw a huge line there was the opening special and closing down sale. The normal price is too high.

    • One opened in the station, another opened few dooors up from goldern sand yum cha, both bloody expensive, delight stiill best valuse in the area.

      • @syswong, are you referring to cheese tart, egg tart or Portuguese tarts?

"another opened few dooors up from goldern sand yum cha" I believe you are referring to the cafe at the corner which sells Portuguese tarts. I haven't tried, are they nice?

  • +3

100 people line qv store lol

    • +1

I'm 15 in line from coming 20min before open

I was at the Gungahlin ACT store around opening time and there was almost no one. First time I tried these and to be honest, it's a bit meh… For half price, it's ok, I won't be buying them at full price.

  • ooh good deal. sounds like theyll be running out earlier than closing time

  • +1

Fun fact: Hokkaido Baked Cheese Tart which is what we have in AU came from Malaysia, this is not the same as the original Bake (without the "d") Cheese Tart from Sapporo Hokkaido.

  • +1

Very long queue in Macquarie. Surprised 😮

  • Too bad they closed down their only shop in SA, at Rundle Plaza…

  • So the one in Castle Hill NSW closed?

  • @happydeal123 what about glen waverley, VIC?

  • +2

The Wynyard store is playing games. They have at least a couple dozen in stock, but have put up a handwritten sign that the promo will resume at 2pm.
Looks like they want to cash in on lunch sales (at full price) before resuming the promo pricing (doesn't say that anywhere on the T&C's).
Didn't even bother hiding the tray of tarts on display.

    • was it busy in Wynyard?

      • Sign says promo sold out

  • +3

The amount of people talking shit about these cheese tarts without having tried them

  • Plenty still available at Rouse Hill!

Thanks. Was just on my way there

  • They said see you next year, great sense of humor

  • Got two boxes, they are nice but no way i'd pay RRP for them and even at this sale price I don't think it is great value
