Optus and Cashrewards - Optus Postpaid Mobile

I recently had a $40 cashback for a Optus Postpaid Mobile purchase declined.

The reason given was that: Optus Postpaid Mobile has determined your purchase did not originate from the last click through Cashrewards. Instead, another marketing channel was credited with the commission. As a result, the store has marked your cashback as declined.

I find this frustrating as I always make sure to use the Cashrewards app for these large cashbacks to avoid issues with “other marketing channels”. However maybe this is not an adequate level of protection.

The worrying thing is that I have a pending $100 cashback for a 356 prepaid sim from Optus still pending. It will be a real kick in the guts if I don’t get that one as well.

How do I protect against this in the future?

  • I always use the phone app for cashbacks (Cashreward, Shopback, etc.) If you use the app's built-in browser to navigate stores and make purchases, your screen will show a banner of the cashback website. Just take a screenshot of the order confirmation page showing that banner when you're done with the purchase.

  • ill tell you in 7 days about what happens with my cashback

    • Did you get it on time? Mine still showing pending post the approval date

From the resolution details that Optus Prepaid SIM has provided to us I can see that this particular sale has not been attributed to Cashrewards. This means that after clicking though Cashrewards, a click was made (likely unknowingly) supporting another marketing channel which has resulted in Cashrewards not receiving any commission on your purchase to pass back to you.

Due to the resolution outlined by the store, this transaction has been marked as declined in your Cashrewards account. We’re just as disappointed as you are that the outcome is not what either of us had hoped for. Just like you, we haven't received any payment for this sale.

@Nohtyp: yeah im once agian convinced its a big scam

            • @Wiadro: I actually got it approved after submitting a support ticket

              • @Nohtyp: I’ve emailed them 4 times and got the same reply

                • @Wiadro: I got the same reply .

@Wiadro: I've threatened to report them to ACCC if they don't tell me which affiliate got my commission as I want to know what link I've clicked (I'm sure I didnt click anything other than cash rewards about 4x) …so they said they will ask Optus again

  • I suspect that Optus has claimed their own discount as the other marketing channel in an effort to void the $40 cashback.

Feels like a real dog act.

  • Whilst annoying it is a risk with CB deals (vs straight discount)- so my advice is to make sure you're still ok with whatever deal you're going for in the event you don't get CB approved.

My 100 got denied too!!! I'm never using cash rewards again!!! I'm definitely sure I did not click any other links!!

Luckily my $100 cash back was honoured, but given the $40 I already lost I’m going to be very wary of larger cashback with CR now.

Still pending but now thinking we have all been duped. Surely this is a valid reason to have Cashrewards (or at least Optus Cashrewards) deals banned from ozbargain?

Similarly consumer protections in Australia should apply, ie follow the instructions and there should be no debates about the entitlement to the cashback.

I checked the main posts and there haven’t been any updates specifically by users there.

Agree. They (cash rewards or Optus ) can simply and easily say we've clicked another link just to disallow payment. Can't believe they wont provide more details. I'm not using cash rewards anymore. They are getting worse

Speak of the devil, both of mine just got approved. So no idea why others are being blocked…

    • Did you get any delay on getting it approved? Mine was suppose to be approved by 30th Mar, still waiting.

      • Only a few days, was due 1st of April and approved on the 4th.

  • Mine got rejected - $100 from a deal late last year. I think if it's this unreliable, it's borderline misleading and cashrewards deals, at least for Optus, should be banned from being posted.

How do I protect against this in the future?

Stop giving Cashrewards (via these click-throughs) your business. I'll be closing my account.
