How come? Also, both games run fantastic on the steamdeck.
Can't speak for mortgage, but I found eternal more repetitive and the one type of mini bosses (forget the name) that always pop up were tedious to fight after the 10th time.
If you are used older boom shoots, it's a much easier on-ramp to the modern versions.
In the promo for the upcoming The Dark Ages, they summarized 2016 as being a 'run and gun' and Eternal as a 'jump and shoot'. In other words, 2016 feels more like a traditional Doom game where you need to keep moving around enemies and Eternal is more 'modern' in that they have lots of jumping pads everywhere with lots of ledges and architecture with many levels, and you are expected to use them as part of your combat strategy.
I liked both. 2016 definitely feels slower but atmospherically more like classic Doom. Eternal's resource drop systems means often the game can look like a neon fireworks show, which for some is too arcade-y.
I also felt like there were too many skill trees and upgrades and stuff that I didn't really care about in eternal. Just wanted to go shoot stuff.
Still fun but preferred 2016.
Personally I found eternal really wants you to play a very specific way, specifically run and gun alternating glory kills for health, chainsaw for ammo, and flamethrower for armour. I didn't really like being forced to use certain very specific weapons to trigger the monsters inexplicably exploding into various pickups.
The atmosphere is quite different (much more arcadey), and I didn't really like the backstory and plot nobody really asked for. For me, it almost felt like a fanfic for doomguy.
I'm not saying it's a bad game, I can see why people like it, but it's just very different to 2016. Not for me.

Strongly agree, I’ve played through 2016 twice and that is rare for me as I buy too many games, but I’ve never finished eternal. They went in the wrong direction with it and I just didn’t find it as fun. Hoping the next one is better!

Factorio is a great game. And the brilliance of the modern world is there's something out there for everyone. I like Factorio AND Doom, and others may not, and that's OK.
Maybe i need to give it another spin. It was very impressive and smooth but i just didn't get into it - lack of immersion etc
I was pumped for it, started off with the pc version upon release (one of the last physical copies of a pc game that I purchased - from BIG W of all places). I didn't quite warm up to it, as it just didn't feel like DooM to me (only in name and enemy types). I did get the Xbox version some time after (Target was clearing out their games and I figured why the hell not lol).
Disliked Eternal for much of the same reason, if I wanted to play a jumping shooter, I'd just play Quake! Part of my dislike with the change in formula was having to be strategic and only certain weapons being able to do damage. I loved the freedom in the older games, If I wanted to challenge myself and kill the cyber demon with just a pistol… I should be allowed to do so :P
I agree, just didn't do it for me. Unsure why you're being downvoted for a personal opinion on a game, it's subjective people…
