Hey Oz Bargain Community,

If you're flat chat, please feel welcome to skip to the deal details below in bold

I'm extremely excited to announce that our long awaited custom designed coffee bags have just arrived and they're even better in-person than I'd imagined, they really do stand out in a crowd! It's been a long time coming, so I thought we really should celebrate the transition to our very first custom designed bags by featuring one of my all time favourite coffees in the deal. Drum roll please…we're featuring our delicious Colombia Cauca Single Origin in this deal. You know how you hear "wait a week or two for the flavours to develop after the roast date." Well the reason our Colombia Cauca Single Origin is one of my all time personal favourite coffees is because it's absolutely delicious only 24 hours from roasting, but what makes it so special to me is how much the aroma and flavour incredibly transforms over the one to two weeks after roasting, it truly seems like magic. This magical flavour transformation, from my experience in the wonderful world of coffee, also makes it up there as one of best value for money coffees we have. It really is a must try and if you're keen to see the flavour transformation I'd highly recommend trying some straight away and comparing it to the flavour and aroma two weeks from the roast date :)

To celebrate the arrival of our new custom designed coffee bags we're offering you a 40% saving off our truly wonderful Colombia Cauca Single Origin, only $29.70 per 1kg (usually $49.50 per 1kg) and only $17.25 per 500g (usually $28.75 per 500g)

Deal valid for orders placed until Wednesday 26/03/2025, unless sold out before. Dispatch can happen for you as near as Monday and as far as the last Thursday in June (26/06/2025). Once a given dispatch date is at full capacity the green circle will be removed and date will turn red, first in best dressed :)

Morning @fLaMePrO fantastic news to hear how much you love our Brazil Single Origin, it sure it a crowd favourite!!!

I believe our Colombia Single Origin is on the same level of deliciousness, but in a different way in terms of flavour. The main difference you'll notice is our Colombia has a slightly higher acidity kick and more clean fruity secondary notes. Give is a shot, I have a hunch you'll love it too :)

      • Cool thank you, might order a smaller bag just to give it a go :)

        • Fantastic, sounds like a plan!

Thank you so much for another order, fingers crossed you love this Single Origin too :)

  • Took delivery of a custom designed coffee bag this morning! Looks very smart. Hardly know my coffee cupboard now.

Hey @Morven terrific to hear our new custom designed bags are a welcomed surprise for you. There were some customers who we sent our news bags earlier this week as we transition away from the plain bags. You're spot on that they're a bit of a drastic design change from the norm, it's like going from a black and white TV to a colour LED!

We've still got a bit more stock of the plain bags to move, so the transition continues for a little while longer, but anyone who orders via this deal is guaranteed to receive the new bags beaming with colour :)

      • I have to respectfully disagree. The new bags are a step in the wrong direction.
They are now completely plastic, which is the opposite most smaller coffee roasters are going (compostable). The colours look like they're from the 90s or early 2000s. I much preferred the brown bags.
You should have moved to a fully compostable bag with some printed branding.
The positive comment from above used the term 'very smart' which tells you the demographic this new designs appeals to.
The new bags make me NOT want to buy your coffee anymore even if I have to pay more.

Hey @albot as a small business we truly value customers sharing their thoughts with us when there is constructive intent, so thank you for the constructive feedback and also for the time you've taken to list your reasons!

First, I completely understand personal preferences are, so I know not everyone will love the new bags just like not everyone loved the plain bags.

          A few points in response:

-These new bags have a different exterior surface material, which was needed for the colour printing, but they have the same overall structure and interior as the plain bags, which means from an environmental perspective the impact hasn't really changed
-The colours are lime and blue as that aligns with our brand name. I personally love the new bags, but I know they won't be the forever bags as I'm sure there'll likely be lots of design changes over time as design generally changes over time
-We did look at compostable, but more research is needed and I believe more Gov input. We found bags that were very environmentally friendly, but not so good for keeping coffee fresh or shipping it, they were basically a paper bag similar to what bakeries put pastries in. In terms of the bags that claim to be "compostable" or "recyclable" while also being good for coffee, in our recent research we discovered some bags that have all the environmental messaging and official logos, are not compostable or recyclable (we found both types showing information which didn't match results), these misleading bags are used by some well known brands and they look identical to every other bag with similar messaging…hence the need for more research, as I'm not keen on getting a bag that talks the talk without knowing it'll walk the walk
-For a while now we have been exploring creating a new type of packaging for coffee beans which ticks both the functional and recyclable criteria, but it's going to take more research and be very expensive to create (as we'd need to get custom machine tooling made and economies of scale are large as it'd be a new custom packaging product), so we'll def need to sell a bit more coffee before we can step in that direction, but we'll continue to strive towards that direction
          - In terms of Gov helping things in the direction you'd like, I believe there needs to be a three pronged approach, financial, educational and regulatory. Money needs to help push genuine environment initiatives further and not in a way that is a money grab, so results like the RedCycle program can be avoided. Education in terms of consumers knowing the differences between how different products break down, for example I see a huge amount of cups claiming to be biodegradable in both rubbish bins and recycling bins, they don't break down in recycling bins… there's a mirage of environmental logos and wording that really need to get cleaned up so systems are clearer for consumers. Regulations are needed to ensure outcomes are achieved as intended and also there's an even playing field for manufacturers, for example at present I don't believe any pizza boxes are made in Australia, yet we have a lot of pizza boxes and large box manufacturers in Australia, but regulations don't make for a fair (or hygienic) playing field as pizza boxes made in Australia must be made of new/virgin material, but imported boxes are not regulated so they are made of much cheaper recycled materials that don't have the same hygiene requirements, so the Australian box manufacturers simply can't viably compete

Anyway I know I've rambled quite a bit, so I'll stop the rambling now, I just wanted to convey that we did do almost of research into the different options before deciding on our first custom bag iteration. I do hope you stick with us, but I can respect if you feel the need to move elsewhere. If you do move elsewhere for the reasons you've mentioned and you do really want to know the packaging you have does what you think it does, then I'd highly recommend requesting proof the bags are "compostable" and then researching that proof, so you know the bags walk and don't just talk :)

          • @LimeBlueCoffee: Thanks for explaining. I recently bought coffee from Ocean Grind in Torquay, they use Earth Bags: https://thepackagingpeople.com.au/products/earth-bags
not sure how to proved anything but apparently adheres to European Standards and is home compostable.
Not sure how much each of your new plastic bags cost but there are 34c/ea without the tie.
            www.oceangrind.com.au for reference.

            • @albot: Appreciate the extra info!

Those bags unfortunately aren't great for shipping or storing coffee, as mentioned in that link description those bags aren't airtight which is why there's no one-way valve on them. The bag change we've made wasn't financially motivated, 34c is a great price (super cheap). Our custom bags cost us more than triple and have a much larger minimum order requirement. From our research thus far across packaging for all types of products, aluminium the best from an environmental perspective, simply because it's infinitely recyclable and can just go in regular recycling bins :)

              • @LimeBlueCoffee: The bag of coffee I have does have a valve, so I must've linked the wrong one.
Hope the search for a better bag goes well.

                  • @LimeBlueCoffee: wow - I love your coffee range and absolutely love the new coffee bag design! But what i truly appreciate even more is you/your business taking the time and effort to explain the selection process!

I didn't know so much thought had to go into the packaging! Absolutely love that your business is growing and thriving!

                    • @Toadee: WOW WOW WOW @Toadee thank you so much for that uplifting vote of confidence, thank you so much, it really does mean so much to know we're firmly in your good books and I promise we'll keep working hard to stay there!!!

Yes, you'd be surprise how much thought goes into every single decision, as it continues to surprise me on a daily basis :)

p.s. fantastic to know you "absolutely love the new coffee bag design!"

        • The colours look like they're from the 90s or early 2000s.

          Hmmm… now I want o buy one…

  • Pretty good for milk based coffees?

    • +1

I can confirm this Single Origin is delicious for both black and milk based coffees :)

  • Hi,

I've purchased a couple times from previous specials in larger batches to take advantage of free shipping. I have found that the beans that I have frozen ( 1-3 months ) do not taste as flavorful as non frozen beans and I would also have to decrease the grind to hit the same extraction times. I'll let the whole unopened bag come to room temp before dispensing it into a vacuum glass jar. I suspect that the frozen beans would have fully degassed as the bags do come out the freeze without any gas left in the bag.

Is there anything that I am doing wrong or am I expecting too much.

As for the taste of the beans fresh……. very very tasty. !

    • Hey @EG1995 absolute wonderful to know you've found our coffee to be "very very tasty!" thank you so much for sharing that terrific compliment!!!

Hmm I've frozen lots and lots and haven't experienced similar…could you please let me know when you're freezing the beans e.g. when they're delivered or ..? In terms of the grind setting comparison how are you comparing e.g. are you freezing one bag and leaving the other at room temp or …? No real wrong answers, just asking the questions to ensure we're on the same page to give me the highest change of providing a helpful response :)

      • Hi apologies for the late reply.

I'll leave one bag out at room temp which I'll split and put in a vacuum jar and the rest of the bags I'll chuck in the freezer. I'll get through the remaining beans in the bag first then the beans in the jar.

When I need to use more beans I'll take the frozen beans out and let them come to room temp over a few hours before opening the bag.
