Headphones for a Small Head?

My girlfriend is rather tiny and is having trouble finding a decent set of over-ear wireless headphones that stay on her head. she wants to use them for running and commuting and prefers over-ears for the definite dont-talk-to-me look and volume/sound but shes worried that none of these over ears are going to stay on while running.

she has tried most of the Sony and Sennheiser range on in store and found them to be a bit too loose even on the lowest size setting. has also tried JBLs and while the Tune 770s are better, they dont seem to support AAC (hard to find a definite answer) and dont seem to go very loud.

have already tried one amazon brand (QCY H3 pro) which while they sound great are not clampy enough to stay fitted. Tozo come up as a suggestion but reviews on their own website seem to suggest they are still too big even for large people.

should note she does not have the budget for any of the flagship models. $200ish is about the max.

this is not really a considered factor in reviews or specsheets so if anyone has any suggestions…… Im all ears.

  • yep i have the same issue, that bose QC is too slippery on my head

    • I have a bose quietcomfort SC and have found that it is bigger than I would like. You can get a headphone cover like this to make it fit better.

probably headphones are not just for us… maybe should consider something like Shokz (get the mini model)… especially for running… no one wear full headphones for running :D

  • Kids headphones?

While I considered this they are all volume limited.

      • What's wrong with that?

        • She likes music to be loud?

The setting cant be disabled on kids sets.

            @Laserface:

That's not good for her hearing…

            • @jv: Kid sets are limited to 85db which is inside conversation volume level.

90-100 is quite ok for long periods.

Also she is intelligent enough to know that she shouldn't use full volume all the time.

If 85db was enough to satisfy adults we wouldn't be having this conversation because the market wouldn't have louder headphones than 85db.

              • @Laserface:

                Also she is intelligent enough

You said she has a small head though?

@jv: You heard it here first folks. JV is a phrenology enthusiast.

                    @Shoocat: Yes, but it's just a hobby…

  • Beats Solo 4 or if you can find a pair: Beats Solo Pro which have ANC, quite clampy, plenty of pre-owned on offer

  • Has she tried on any of the kids range of headphones? They may be a little more 'clampy' than adult focused models.

I bought a set of skullcandy 'somethings' for my daughter a couple of years ago and they were too tight for her head (7 year old) so maybe something from them. Quite ironically they were called crushers.

Or release your inner American Psycho with some jlabs

  • Small Head?
    My girlfriend is rather tiny

    Bose QuietComfort 45

  • Not sure if they still make them but the Zik headphones were pretty clampy and had good noise cancelling. Might be too large for une petite femme though.

As it happens, Soundcore have just announced a 50% sale on their product, might be targeted, but might be worth a shot and snag a pair of Q45s

    • a lot of Q 45 reviews say they are bigger than Sonys or generally dont fit well on smaller heads.

  • AirPods Pro, or the Samsung equivalent. People seem to know by now that AirPods means you can't hear them. They are very light and have the ear seal thing so they stay in while running with most ears. She can even use AirPods with Android, she'll probably just have to learn the manual controls to change modes.

she has airpods, due to sound issues prefers wired ones as the airpods got blocked.

I have a few kinds of TWS sets that shes tried and isnt a fan of. wants over-ears as they sound better for the music shes listening to.

shes picky! but its keeping me occupied at least.

      • Sounds like an earwax problem. But there's lots of good choices for over the ear headphones. If she needs a pair that will clamp onto her small head might be worth going into a shop and trying some on, then find the cheapest price online after she finds ones she likes. I don't think I could workout with over the ear headphones, I sweat a lot, but I see loads of people use them at my gym.

        • I cleaned the airpods up and got them sounding better (for gen 2/3 airpods anyway) but they'd already been back to the store once for a repair and she didnt want to spend more money on them again out of warranty. they were by no means gunky, but the design does allow ear wax to get pushed into the grille and block them up a bit reducing volume.

I have always preferred in-ears since I got them with my MD walkman in 2001, and am pretty religious about cleaning my ears so I havent had this problem ( i also clean my headphones/earplugs regularly just cos)

I have convinced her that it might be best to get the JBLs for the train and some cheap TWS for running since its gonna be tricky finding anything that fits her munchkin head.

  • Wear a headband over the headphones?
    .

  • If your tiny girlfriend is listening to music whilst running, how does she hear the creepy psycho stalker killer who sneaks up behind her when no one else is watching?
