Phillips One Blade vs Electric Foil Shavers

Hi everyone, just wanting to check what everyone is using to shave their face.

I had been using Multi Purpose Grooming Kit and using the foil shaver attachment however that has stopped working. I am looking for as close of a shave as possible without using a safety razor.

I can see from the recommendations there is Phillips One Blade that some people have said does not provide a close shave and is more for trimming (could someone please confirm).

Just wanting to see everyone's experience with the One Blade and electric shavers in general. Any recommendations would be highly appreciated.

I shave once a week, and don't require a smooth finish. For this purpose, phillips one blade is perfect because it will go through any hair growing in any direction. I can be rough with it, and have never had a cut or nick. This will leave me with a 5 o'clock shadow type of finish.

If you want to be smooth, you'll need something different. I have a cheap rotary which gets dusted off for special occasions.

Philips one blade does the job and is quick, without the guard it does a visible clean shave, just doesn't feel like it. Had mine for a couple years and much easier than a straight edge.

  • I’ve been using the Philips one-blade shaver for the past couple of months. Before that, I used the Philips dry and wet shaver.

This model, the Philips Shaver Series 5000 SkinIQ Wet & Dry Electric Shaver, Philips one-blade It’s not as close a shave as electric shavers, but it’s more like a trimmer. It’s great for quick shaves or trims when you’re short on time, but it might leave some hairs and patches. For me, it does the job, though.

One thing to note is that the Philips one-blade shaver produces a lot of hair and mess, especially if you use it dry without shaving cream. Electric shavers, on the other hand, produce a lot less mess.

If you shave daily and don’t mind a slightly less close shave, the Philips one-blade shaver is still a good value for money. But if you want a closer shave and shave daily, you’ll probably want to stick with an electric shaver.

  • Where do all you experts get replacement Blades for the one blade? Tempted to try the alie ones just to fu to Phillips for how expensive they make the genuine refills. That's obviously where they make the money not on the machine

    • I buy genuine and replace them way too infrequently.

Yeah I certainly don't replace them anywhere close to their "designed life" lol

  • Old school double edged razor. The only real cost is the razor and brush. The blades are cheap especially if you get a sample pack from the likes of Beard & Blade. They even have gift set with everything you need.

So much cheaper than blade refills from the mainstream brands.
