Board Game Bargains - Low Quantity Thread

There are lots of board game deals but sometimes I can't post them as a proper deal as they are low in stock. Thought it might be better to have a dedicated thread so you can subscribe to this and know straight away that it's a board game deal. I imagine this will mostly be Amazon deals as postage can kill most deals but I don't think people will mind if you find an amazing deal somewhere else.

I'm not too fussed if people want to just discuss board games in here too but I guess we can see how other feel once we get a few subscribers in here.

    Try Amazon.

  • Just got into Gloomhaven. Very fun, my mates love it.
I spent a lot of time preparing before the first game to understand the rules!

    • I'm great at buying board games, not so great at actually playing them. I actually have Jaws of the Lion on my table right now. I need to do all of the punch card stuff and sleeving. The main reason I'm tackling it is to try to reduce the size of the box!

      • I actually bought Gloomhaven 7 years ago and only just played it for the first time :D

The organising was pretty fun. Spent maybe $40 at Spotlight for divided containers, then found some card sleeves on Ebay to hold the store items.

        • I have the 3rd part helper app .apk floating around if you want to save some hassel.

          • @Nalar: I downloaded a couple of apps but so far been doing everything manually in the OG way.
I think I would only use the apps in order to hide the subsequent rooms of a scenario rather than see it all in the book.

            • @FezMonkey: This version of the app is only for combat, it tracks enemy HP, turn orders, enemy modifiers, status, elements etc. just takes a huge part of mid game admin away. I wouldn't play GH without it.

              • @Nalar: Is it easily available? How come you need to keep your own copy of it?

                • @FezMonkey: GH shut it down about a year ago.

BGG says there's options now, X-Helper looks to be the best 1:1 replacement for Gloomhaven Helper.

                  https://boardgamegeek.com/thread/3256852/gloomhaven-helper-n…

                  • @Nalar: Oh yeah I do have that one. Looks to be suited to a tablet

                    • @FezMonkey: luckily decent tablets are like $150-$250 now from Aliexpress. I highly recommend taking the combat admin off the table into an app, it's so much smoother and drops your play time a bit.

Tablet streamed to a Cheap TV or Cheap monitor vs a Cheap fire stick is pretty good too!

        • There is a heap of stuff on Makerworld available, if you have access to a 3D Printer.

          • @BewareOfThe Dog: All that stuff looks great. Really don't want to go down that rabbit hole though. I don't think it would be healthy for me (wife would kill me) or my wallet.

            • @ozbs25: Bambu A1 Mini is a great place to start, or the A1 if you want a larger build plate. My GF was cranky when I bought my 1st one. Here are a few selling points
              * I had to point out that it cost about 1/4 of the price of her Cricut
              * It uses 50 to 85% less plastic, than a product that is made commercially
              * It uses 1/2 the power that her desktop computer does
              * I was going to get a tattoo with [INSERT SPORT TEAM HERE], but got this 3D Printer instead.

The Bambu A1 Mini is a great start at $329, but the A1 is $499.
Bambu costs more but, is so easy to use. I have 2 units (and looking at the new H series). I made a few mistakes early on, buying 2 x Anycubic Resin units, then a Kingroon KP5L).

I have made a few things for her such as Makeup compartments, fishtank plant holders, + more.

My GF gave me an idea for designing something , and selling it on Etsy. Hence, why I purchased another Bambu. Ask @Jimothy Wongingtons how good the A1 is.

Raiders of Scythia - Board Game (Meeple Version) $33

    Rated 7.7 on BGG
    Price History

Looks like this is available again via backorder. Please let us know if this is not the case.

Still not sure what the Meeple version is versus all the other versions.

    • Figured out its price matching Gamerholic
      https://gamerholic.com.au/products/raiders-of-scythia-1?_pos…
Can purchase through Big W market if that suits, same seller too

Im not interested in it but I have found with Amazon sometimes the "temporarily out of stock" never replenishes but its up to you if you prefer a trusted source👍 I once had an item still waiting for dispatch for a year before I finally cancelled it (I had used gift cards so they had taken my $$$ as opposed to cash which they only take after shipping)

      • I have gotten a few things via backorder but also yeah some stuff hasn't come. If you don't mind waiting then there's no harm in doing it. They don't take your money until it ships.

  • Please delete if not allowed; wanted to poll the masses here :) Birthday is coming up and I have ~$250 to spend, any recommendations on games?

    Some notes:
    - My group and I prefer medium to heavy games; both euro and ameritrash alike
    - I own/have owned and played most of the Top 200 games on BGG, so am looking for newer titles or hidden gems
    - Prefer 3-4 players or more, don't really play solo/2p or co-op games either

"SHOW ME WHAT YOU GOT!" (Thanks!)

What are your/your group's favourite games / mechanics?
What mechanics don't you/your group like?

      • We are pretty open-minded when it comes to games/mechanics, some recent faves include Arcs, Heat Pedal to the Metal, Nemesis Lockdown, Root, Everdell, Anachrony, to name a few :)

Mechanics we also enjoy include deck building, engine building and area control, prefer more player interaction than not

Personally I don't particularly enjoy trick-taking as a mechanic (with the exception of Arcs obviously), and as a group we generally don't enjoy heavy 'take-that' games.

          SETI
          White Castle
          Glass Road
          Suburbia
          Tzolkin
Clank (Catacombs > Space > Regular)
          Power Grid (Outpost or Regular)
          Race for the Galaxy
          Concordia (Venus or Regular)
          Through the Ages

          • @bc: Cheers for the list, SETI has been 'on my radar' (pun intended), how does it play? The reviews I saw have said it can be quite fiddly and bookkeeping heavy…but I do have a soft spot for sci fi too :)

            • +1

@Esplin: I didn't find it overly fiddly or notice any bookkeeping concerns. I enjoyed the efficiency puzzle of trying to get the most out of the 4 limited resources (credits, energy, cards and publicity). The actions made sense to me and I thoroughly enjoyed discovering which Aliens were in the game (hidden at the start) and then trying to make the most of their different abilities.

    • That Elder Scrolls looks pretty slick.
