HP Laptop Battery Died – Looking for Trustworthy Replacement Options

The battery in my HP laptop (model 919700-850) has completely failed — it no longer holds any charge, and the BIOS now displays a warning at startup saying the battery needs to be replaced.

Unfortunately, HP doesn’t seem to offer direct replacements anymore. I found one listing for a "genuine" HP battery on LaptopBatteryExpress for around $78.50, but I'm not sure how trustworthy that is. I've also checked Google, but most of the cheaper compatible batteries have concerning reviews. For example: — people mention problems like the battery not working out of the box, charging to only a fraction of its full capacity, or dying within a couple of months. eBay isn't much better, with a lot of listings that look like counterfeits posing as genuine HP parts. For example:.

Has anyone successfully replaced this specific battery with a reliable one? I’d love to hear where you bought it and how it’s held up over time. At this point, I’m open to both OEM and high-quality third-party options — I just want something that works and won’t fail in a few weeks.

  • I found one listing for a "genuine" HP battery on LaptopBatteryExpress(https://www.laptopbatteryexpress.com/HP-919682-Battery-p/hp-…) for around $78.5, but I'm not sure how trustworthy that is.

Not only is that a US site, it's also not genuine HP. It says Xtend brand.

Same for the other link, also US and it's 'OEM' which nowadays means similar copy to original.

There's third party batteries on eBay.com.au for <$30 if you just want something to get you by. It should do the job and you have buyer protection if not. Pick a seller that's focused on batteries, has thousands of sales and 99%+ positive reviews.

  • I’ve bought 10-15 batteries from these guys and never had an issue.

    • Have you got exact batteries listed with photos in the site?

      • If you’re asking if they’ve been genuine brand name batteries I’ve received, the answer is either yes, or they’re great fakes. In any case they’ve performed and lasted the same as confirmed brand name batteries.

I do not expect a genuine battery; however they list the imitation of the original battery design photos, but they ship battery with ticker case than original design which the laptop does not fit onto the base docking station with battery, it should normally fit, though battery itself fits into the laptop. I had to return 3 or 4 batteries to AE sellers.

Hp notebooks are made by foxconn. There will be resellers that say they are genuine.

I assume the battery is easily removable?

If the above posters say they are okay, then go for it.

Otherwise, buy an Acer or Macbook. ;)

    • Otherwise, buy an Acer

honest question here- what's good about acer and battery replacements- do they still do external batteries or something like that?

  • Ice personally purchased parts such as this from eBay and also from iFixit.

Depends on your budget. I've had success on both, though I suppose warranty is more likely to be easily claimed if needed using iFixit.
