Returning an Item on AliExpress

I've purchased a D9 controller off Ali, and it's faulty. I'm eligible for a free return, but after doing some research I've seen mixed feedback where people say it's better to just cop the loss. I paid $50, so don't want to take the hit. They've offered me $16 if I keep the item, which i won't do since the analogue sticks dont work.

Just checking if anyone had some recent experience with a return on AliExpress and if they had any issues or received their refund?

Update: got the refund a day after posting the item back, it said based on my shopping habits I'm entitled to an earlier refund.

No issues.. they have a local postage place in Sydney

    • Good to know. Thanks

      • If I recall, there 2 ways to return it. You can lodge it yourself (as in you print out the label and stick it in a box and post it to NSW) OR you can take it to a return place and they lodge it for you

I remember for one item, I did the second way and the guy just prints out a sticker and sticks it on. Thought WTF? But I did get a refund

I take it you haven't returned anything from Amazon. You can also select the QR code / printer-less option.

I recently returned an item within the 15 day period and got the paypal refund as soon as I lodged the parcel at the post office.

    • Good to know. Thanks

    • Lucky you. I sent mine in this morning but no immediate refund

      • I just returned another one at the post office within the 15 day refund period. Got the paypal refund in 5 hrs.

I had to return 4-5 items of $50-100 value each on separate occasions and there were no issues at all. They have local stores in NSW you will be posting there not to China. As soon as you post the item you will get your refund, in my cases, to PayPal.
Do not communicate with the seller directly and do not accept their offer outside of AE dispute pathway.
Just lodge item is not described or faulty with possible supporting photo or video and sit back and ignore the seller's communication efforts or msg offers after claim lodged.

    • Good to know, yeah seller had no issues and they are the ones that recommended doing the return. Thanks

What is the return policy on your purchase? Do NOT take up the seller's offer if you have an avenue to return.

My rather long story: I experienced a scam where the item was never sent (beyond a bogus tracking number). I claimed an INR and seller would counter with super-low offers. As soon as I rejected it, they counter-offered in increments of $1. Rinse and repeat. AliExpress stipulates a certain number of days for INR claims to resolve. The counter-offers only lasted for 1-2 days. I wasn't sure what would happen if those counteroffers were ignored so I rejected them and seller would counter every time. F*ing mental. Thankfully I got hold of an AliExpress chatperson who confirmed I could ignore them. So I did and the refund eventually arrived.

Above replies confirm my experiences too. Just commence return process and don't get involved with the seller trying to circumvent that process.

My latest return was a $200 item and was refunded without issue.

    • Good to know.

  • AliExpress forces you to communicate with the seller first where as above, they waste your time. After you've tried to resolve it two or three times with the seller, the "Have AliExpress intervene" button magically appears.

    • No it doesn't, I returned something few weeks ago and it aaa all automated and refunded when item was dropped off. Oddly enough the seller tried to appeal my return yesterday but I can't even see it since the case is closed

      • In my case, it wasn't a return. It was an item not received so maybe the options were different on that Choose Your Own Adventure.

        • Oh yeah that one's annoying. But since Choice is on almost everything lucky it has better shipping now

Any claims I have lodged direct with Ali Express have been refunded in 48 hours - often much less

  • What if I dont have an envelope to repack the item or a printer. Whats the cheapest way to return. Was thinking of using the printer at work and a free plastic bag from groceries, but even that isn't free anymore nowadays… plus travel cost and time to the post office…

    • I'm just using the original packaging. Maybe someone can confirm whether the post office can print your label?

      • Yes, scan the qr code, and now Auspost will send you a Sms of the receipt

  • Had plenty ignoring facts- never refunded even when original returned.
