Melbourne to LA return (travel date 20/01/13 to 27/02/2012

Hi All,
I'm currently looking to book flights for Melbourne to LA return, leaving 20/01/2013 and returning 27/02/2013. Anyone come across any good deals? I saw the Virgin Australia deal for May 2013 of around $1200, looked on Virgin for my flight dates and prices look to be around $1250. Was just about to press book when my "ozbargainess" reminded me to post on forums with the possibility of finding some cheaper deals.

Also, anyone come across any cheap LA to Panama City flights (20/01/2013 or 21/01/2013, flying Melb to LA then straightaway to Panama).
