ACCC Shopper App Retired. How Do You Backup Your Paper Receipts?

I’ve googled it and there’s no mention of anyone discussing this app being retired, so maybe I was one of the very few people using it.

The ACCC had a handy iOS/Android app called “ACCC Shopper” that made it easy to back up and organize paper receipts. You could just snap a photo, enter some basic details for indexing, and quickly search for receipts later. It was a free, lightweight app that also backed up all items to iCloud. Just simple to use and elegant.

I opened it a moment ago and got a message that it’s been retired, which sucks cause I’ve been using it for almost 10 years. It lets me export all my historical items, but won’t let me create any new ones.

Anyway, now I need a new way to archive my paper receipts. I don’t particularly want to have them just sitting in my camera roll. My first thought was to just make a new folder in my Google Drive and upload photos with filename format “yyyymmdd - <Place of purchase> - <Name of items>” or something like that.

Any other better / easier options?

Sounds like you pretty much do what I do with my price protection notes. Samsung notes used to be really great but then they had an update which took away some features that really screwed me over. I use an app called D notes now

You can create categories, coloured notes, add password etc. What I do is when I make a purchase that I know will be claimable (phone, game etc) I'll make a new note, titled YY/MM/DD (Credit card) and the body will have $X.Xx [store name] [item] . You can add your receipt photo under. Takes just a few seconds really to make a note. Makes it easy to search by date, or store name, product.

    • I need price protection tracking. I don't see D notes on IOS. That's a shame

    • Nice, is d notes free or paid?

    Paperless-ngx
    https://docs.paperless-ngx.com/
FOSS. Initial setup takes a bit but is amazing once done.

    • It looks great, but it might be a bit overkill - as far as setup - just for the paper receipt use-case.

But it would be great for a larger and more comprehensive documentation repo.

      • Op just curious how u found out about the accc shopper app? I never even heard of it until your post

I've been uploading to Google Drive exactly the way youve mentioned. It's fairly quick to just use the scan feature on the app. Being able to easily share the entire folder to my accountant is probably the reason I started doing it that way.

I just save em in google photos, and you can search by the text on the receipt. So easy to find by store, item, or date.
