  • I didn't use it last time but few mentioned they could buy GC's. Any DP's to share?

    • +7

I bought a $100 Cellarbrations (eftpos) gift card during the last offer, and I received my statement credit after around 13 business days. I have been using that gift card at IGAs accepting Metcash gift cards to purchase groceries.

Other people used their Cellarbrations gift cards to make purchases at Mitre 10, and one person figured out how to turn Cellarbrations gift cards into Amazon gift cards…

      • Did you buy the Cellarbrations GC at a Cellarbrations?

        • +1

Yes. The Cellarbrations gift card at the store I went to was at the checkout.

          • @WookieMonster: Do all iga stores accept the card for payment?

            • +2

              @unity1: No.

Only participating IGA stores accept physical Metcash gift cards. You can view these on the Metcash website.

              • +1

                @WookieMonster: Thank you

              • @WookieMonster: Do Cellarbrations gift cards usually start with the 502125? If so, if my local IGA accepts IGA giftcards with the 502125 does it mean they will work there?

                • +1

                  @n0mad:

Do Cellarbrations gift cards usually start with the 502125?

All the Cellarbrations gift cards I have seen start with 502125.

If my local IGA accepts IGA giftcards with the 502125 does it mean they will work there?

It should. My Cellarbrations gift card worked on my last shop at an IGA accepting IGA gift cards a couple of weeks ago.

                  • @WookieMonster: So does this mean it doesn't matter what's on the face of the card ie Cellarbrations, Porter's, Bottle-O etc, the gift cards will work at most IGA?

I don't have a Cellarbrations near me, but Bottle-O is just a stone throw away

                    • +3

@MahjongKing: That would be my assumption, as I see nothing that would make Bottle-O gift cards or Porters Liquor gift cards (or Thirsty Camel gift cards) behave any different to Cellarbrations gift cards.

In your case, make sure the Bottle-O gift card is an eftpos gift card. When I went to an IGA last week to try to turn my Cellarbrations gift card into an IGA gift card, it turned out that IGA was selling a new type of IGA gift card with a redemption barcode on the back (rather than an IGA-branded eftpos gift card). My understanding is that Cellarbrations, Bottle-O, Porters Liquor and Thirsty Camel gift cards only exist as eftpos gift cards, but double-check before you purchase (if you can).

I will be honest though, I have no personal experience using Bottle-O gift cards (mostly because I do not live anywhere near any of those locations participating in this deal), so I have not been able to test this theory out.

Hey mate, are you gonna share something about the merchant's location, or what? Let’s make it interesting, instead of just boasting without giving anything to the ozbargain society.. lol

      • +1

The guy has to feel important, so he boasts about it … Haha

      • -3

It's all laid out in the platinum forum.

      • He didn't share last time. He won't this time either.

I have decided this deal isn't worth my time, after ringing around last time and turning up to a few nearby locations. None of them sold GCs. Some even explained to me that they don't carry GCs because they are independent.

So it must have been an abberancy that some independents carry them. Maybe from a previous business relationship that never reset after becoming independent…..

      • +1

I suggest you do what i did and spend more than a few hours driving around and asking stores as most never answer phones and if they do have no idea they have gift cards.

        • +1

I spent a day doing this last time, the stores that had any gift cards were few and far between. I would have been better off going to work. This time around I know where to go.

      • +1

If I find any I’ll be the first to post about them

      • Location is accessed via Platform 9 3/4.

    • Hi care to share some info how you manage to do this or a link that has all the details. Thanks

  • +1

Pretty bad list for QLD, does anyone know if place near cbd sell gift card?

    • agreed I just checked.. nothing in the CBD which is a pain for me.

    • Gabba and Annerley closest?

      • +1

Anyone know if they sell giftcard? Searched "BURANDA CELLARS" and it comes up as Cellarbrations in google.

  • -1

Have anyone tested spend $300 can get $90 credit back all in one go?

    • +2

You could just ask for split payment of $100s I believe?

  • Any IGA outlets in Melbourne that do Myki recharge are in the participating locations list?

    • +1

      IGA Richmond - Bridge Road

  • -3

Can't wait for an AI to be able to call every store on the list for me and find out if they sell gift cards haha

    • Most of them won't pick up the call anyway

  • Any store with Opal?

  • +1

Apparently not regarded as a 'popular' offer by AMEX, appeared on all my supp cards.

  • Got the IGA gift cards, the manager of my local Victorian IGA thought that all IGAs were now going to stock them.

The IGA on Toorak Road in Camberwell VIC isn't on this deal but does stock Amazon gift cards so you should be able to buy the gift cards from a participating retailer and then use them at an IGA such as this one that does stock Amazon cards.

    • can you actually buy Amazon GC and pay with IGA GC?

      • There is no straightforward answer, as it would depend on some factors:

        1. The type of IGA gift card you have: I have seen two types of IGA gift card: an IGA eftpos gift card, and an IGA gift card with a redemption barcode printed on the back of the gift card (and no magstripe, similar to Supercheap Auto, David Jones or ALDI gift cards). As I alluded to in the same comment I linked to you earlier, an IGA I recently went to had only just started selling IGA gift cards with the redemption barcode, and no longer sold the older IGA eftpos gift cards.

        2. Whether the IGA location you go to accepts IGA eftpos gift cards (or the newer IGA gift cards with the redemption barcode): not all IGAs accept IGA eftpos gift cards, and fewer IGAs accept the newer IGA gift cards with the redemption barcodes.

        3. Whether the IGA will allow the purchase of gift cards using a gift card: if you have an IGA eftpos gift card and only tell the staff member you want to pay by card (or you are an IGA with a self checkout and choose card), you should be fine. However, my understanding is that if you want to redeem an IGA gift card with a redemption barcode, you actually need to tell the staff member you want to redeem a gift card (or choose gift card at the IGA self checkout). That may cause a staff member to go "you cannot use a gift card to purchase a gift card", or there may be something programmed into that IGA's checkout to automatically stop you from using an IGA gift card with a redemption barcode to purchase a gift card.

Well despite the IGA at Toorak Rd, Camberwell displaying the Amazon Gift Cards for sale they aren't actually selling them as they can't verify them through their system! This is nothing to do with using a Gift Card to purchase. I have the new IGA gift cards with redemption barcode but when I tried to purchase a couple of items there today I couldn't but not sure that it wasn't operator error.

I did purchase some items at Boccaccio Cellars the other day with my gift card. The cashier thought that I couldn't use them as they had the EFTPOS cards and thought that cards were store specific. A manager happened to be passing and she said that all types of IGA gift cards can be used in stores who use Metcash. As mentioned by WookieMonster in the post above the staff member had to select redeem IGA gift card and then swipe it and it worked perfectly.

It is very hit and miss and does seem to depend on who serves you.

  • @WookieMonster are you familar with Metcash branded GC? My local Porters liquor sells only Porters GC but the guy there claimed it can be used for IGA. Do you have any experience with this type of card?

    • +2

Did you read this comment I posted in this deal about a week ago? It is pretty much all I know about Porters Liquor gift cards.

I will also add that I have been able to use Cellarbrations gift cards at a couple of IGAs, a Bottle-O and a Thirsty Camel within the last couple of weeks (and all these locations were listed on the Metcash website as accepting physical Metcash gift cards starting with 502125).

      • Thanks I missed those comments. I bought one today and the card starts with 502125. Within an hour or so I went to an IGA to try it but it kept getting declined. Found this on their website and maybe that's why it didn't work. Will try again in few days.

There may be a short delay of up to one business day between when you purchase the Gift Card and its activation. During the period of delay, the Gift Card cannot be used to make purchases.

        • Have the funds appeared on that gift card?

          • +2

@WookieMonster: Hey I actually called Metcash yesterday and they said although they don’t encourage people to use it on different brands, but it should still work since they use the same platform (provided the store is participating in GC program - refer to their website for the list). So I tried again today at the same IGA and somehow it worked!!

TL;DR Porters Liquor GC works at IGAs listed on Metcash website

  • Thanks WookieMonster for identifying that the wording in the terms and conditions may suggest that spending $300 all in one go could get you $90.
Can anyone confirm if this is the case? Looking to not trouble these stores with split payments (something that staff would not do often at all) and multiple cards as we come up to a busy long weekend

    • +1

The max they can load onto a magnetic swipe giftcard seems to be $150.
