Tyre Recommendations for a 2018 Suzuki Swift

Need to get new tyres for the Mrs' Suzuki Swift. Just day to day driving to/from work, and the odd "long" distance drive for an hour each way.

I'm having trouble figuring out which is the best for her. Safety is important but so is road noise/comfort. Don't want to break the bank but don't want to sacrifice safety in the process of being cheap either.

Any suggestions?

  • What tires does she currently have?

    • Bridgestone… not sure what model and not in a position to check them atm.

        Same….

        • Not cutting mugsys grass then
          .

  • Visit the local tyre outlets, ask for recommendations based on your needs, compare the results to narrow the options, google reviews on those options to get it down to one or two choices, get a few prices, go buy some tyres, celebrate 🍾

    • Already done most of that initial stuff but there are conflicting user experiences.

For example, I'm looking at the Kumho PA51. Most reviews say it's a good all rounder balancing dry and wet braking performance with road noise and comfort. But then there's a few user reviews saying that the road noise reduction isn't all that great.

I've looked at a few other tyres too but want the opinion of others.

It's why I've kept my initial post short and not targeting specific brands/models as I don't want to guide the replies.

      • I’ve not used Kumho, it used to be a budget tyre before the more budget Chinese brands arrived. Be sure to discount the odd reviews from someone who might actually be reviewing the car or road rather than the tyre

        • Cheers for the input. I agree that discounting those odd reviews is the way to go. The reviews of the tyre all give it the thumbs up as an all rounder.

I think Kumho's history as a budget brand was scaring me a little too but they've apparently improved a fair bit over the years.

  • If you've gone to that length of investigation , I'd say keep going. Most will settle for a jack of all trades tyre in my opinion. Price wise check out tyroola first and shop around.

    • Cheers for the Tyroola recommendation. That's a really good website to use to compare with.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure the Kumho PA51 is the right tyre… majority of reviews don't think noise is an issue so. I've gone ahead and booked a tyre change with one of the local MyCar service centres since they have the Kumho down to $164/tyre atm incl fitting. Tyroola can do ~$144 but without fitting. MyCar has a 30 day satisfaction policy too and are a single point of contact locally if there are any issues and I know my wife will want that if there are any issues (avoiding the argument with her is worth the extra cost).

These last forever and have good grip in the wet.

      • Yep, just like French redhead-brunette Michelle! Except these two, I stay away from anything French.

  • I recently got Kuhmo solus TA21 four Tyres for $475 from tyrolla and it’s performing very well.

Doubt you can find one that does not break the bank (all will be $110+ per tyre i think as you want high level of noise reduction, comfort level), with that noise and comfort level. Safety is good on all new tyres to be honest given you are buying from a reputable source, they wont sell unsafe tyres.

anyway by your wording it doesn't seem like you wanna go down to budget tyres, and wanna stick to name brands like Kumho, continental, Michelin, Goodyear.

  • What's Tyroola like these days? Is it any good?

  • Bought tyres thru them last year, seemed OK.
