XGIMI Halo+ Full HD Portable Projector $988 + Delivery ($0 C&C/ in-Store) @ JB Hi-Fi

120

Seems to be $100 cheaper than the previous JB deal.

This is the older model that uses Android TV, not Google TV.
I use it at home, and it works great for Plex, Youtube, Google Photos, Music streaming and using the free to air apps + Kodi for live sport!

Edit: Deal ends 20/04 as seen on the instore signage

Portable…. I guess that's cool. I was buying bright 1080p projectors over 15 years ago for the same price.

where do you project the screen ie which room?

also you use a white fabric or just the wall

    • we have a similar one we take with us when caravaning. Project it on the side of the van to watch the footy or a movie. works fine.

      • is the contrast bad?

can the phone connect wirelessly to the projector?

do you open one of the local channels TV app to watch the footy from the phone connected to the projector?

I move mine around the house, my walls are basically white so when I'm in bed I have it on a tripod facing the back wall, which ends up being about 100" screen!

Sometimes I'll move it to the kitchen and project it onto the roll down blinds, I can watch footy and cricket at the same time :)

I've also taken it on trips, projecting it in a hostel room with my mates and privately in hotels that don't have good TV's.

It is the same OS as an android TV, so you can just install any android TV apps (you can also sideload apps). You can also cast from your phone, just as you would with a chromecast (so I can cast straight from Google Photos, even if I don't have the Google Photos app installed on the projector).

You can also cast the whole device screen and audio, but it's better if the app itself supports it, since it can buffer and doesn't have to stream at a lower quality realtime. You could also get a USB-C to HDMI cable and just plug your phone in (confirm that your phone supports this first).

So I use the Channel 7 app on my phone and cast from there (or Kodi if I'm getting a live stream that's not free to air).

Oh and regarding contrast/quality. If it's plugged in to power it can fight of medium levels of light. But it would struggle in pure daylight. At night time the brightness and image quality is amazing imo.

        • Ours has a hdmi in that I put an chromecast on, as the android tv is a bit naff.
The contrast is good enough for who it’s for. No, it’s not going to replace a serious cinema room projector, but for a small portable unit, they’re great.

  • Does anyone recommend any mid range options that fall between the cheap $100 amazon/ali projectors?
I want something that won't burn out too early but also wont cost 1k

Check out 'the hook up' on YouTube. One of the best reviewers of this sort of stuff. No BS.

      • Thank you I'm checking it out now, seems like they'll give me all the details I need in making my decision :)

  • Does it have battery for camping?

    • Yeah it does, but the brightness is kinda shitty when it's running off battery.

  • What's the addon you use for live sports on Kodi :)

    • Daddy live, which was the only source I could find that had AFL.

I've also got a free app on my phone called 'Web Video Caster' which allows you to cast a video stream that doesn't have a cast button.

Thanks, I never found streams to work so went down the route of IPTV but exploring the free options this season to see if anything sticks.

      • 7Plus App is broadcasting AFL this year.

        • Yeah but they don't show all the games
